As much emphasis there is on fleet cooperation and the support role of a destroyer, the ship still has more roles it can take on. Introducing the anti-capital strike destroyer! The beater of cruisers, it relies on significant shield tank and its point defenses, but most importantly, it makes use of the ship's narrow profile and higher lateral acceleration. With as much acceleration as it can take without significant enough tradeoffs, it can face its target to fire all its cannons and dodge most of incoming fire. Even with its nuances and shortcomings, few outpositioned ships will survive the staredown with this ferocious pancake for long.
On the shortcomings - yeah it can also fall to attacks of opportunity. Railguns drained all the energy of the ship, so lasers didn't fire. All is fair then.

Every ship from corvette and larger certainly looks like it judges you, but sometimes, the "sight" of theirs is full of blood :D

Exactly the issue at that moment! The loadout needs more tweaking then. Or the playstyle. One of those.

The issue i have with this game is that there is no real ship variety its only 1 ship per type and such.

Counterpoint, you can build ships in a large amount of ways but yes the hull models themselves are the same

This might reduce the issue - ship chassis are coming! Same ships, of course, but different features to them, most certainly in what sockets are available for loadouts. More, if available, would be shown on Meet & Fleet corresponding with the update, keeping them more of a surprise until then.

A more specialization ship that have big ass gun/turret at it center mass for capital beating duty would appeal on gameplay wise and visually it would help identify the ship as well. [If player see the ship silhouette with big ass gun. They would want to screen this type of ship away from friendly capital for example. Or priority target when defending immobile objective. ]

I was wondering, do flak guns not do a good job vs torps/missiles on their own? I ran a destroyer with no AMS and all Flak guns and while it seemed to do nicely against smaller ships like I wanted, at times I noticed that unless I targeted an incoming torp, even if I knew it was in my firing arc for my flak, it wouldn't fire like it was a serious threat.

Weapons have priorities here, so anti-small ship weapons may open fire on interceptors, bombers and corvettes more, gun turrets will prioritize corvettes rather capitals if they can, AMS will fire at guided weapons almost exclusively and so on. Flak is anti-small, so it probably was waiting for small ships to show up. What you can do to make them fire, is to target the torpedo, then turn turrets to it manually, then switch to auto again. It requires number keys set up to toggle weapon groups, but the payoff is in that flak will open fire on the torpedo. Other anti-small weapons can do this too now.

Are there any long range options for ships or set ups in this game, thats somewhat effective? I'm a fan of scifi ships that missile barrage, or high speed kinetic sniper shots. Anything similar?

Not yet, but new weapons are coming. One of them is the cruiser's spinal projectile cannon for orbital bombardment, which will absolutely be used on other capitals. On missile barrages it's uncertain, however bombers and capitals already can have a lot of missiles. There are gimbaled railguns on interceptors and bombers, that have a range of 8 km from the firing ship, these can be considered long range at their size. Torpedoes have a locking range of 100 km for now, but a flight time of 1 min, so launching them while approaching target at around 2 km/s is also possible. So those are things that are similar, as far as I recall.

Yes, there is! The official Infinity: Battlescape Discord server (also available through search and the in-game link): discord.gg/xhktJaTe Within the game, there is also integrated VoIP for squad members for cooperation purposes.

Yes. In the temporary lore, it seems that two sides are corporations of the same faction fighting over stuff. Everything between them is same in the game, only apart from faction names and paintjobs on ships. For now, or forever? No idea tbh.
