What risk is involved? I have same issue and thought of just using an extension cord. The hot tub has gfci plug so I don’t see where the harm is. An electrician wants 1500 to run electric

Well, I was just putting it as a disclaimer since the manufacturer doesn't suggest it. With that said, danger to you inside the hot but I don't think would be any more than with it plugged directly into a wall outlet because as you said it has a gfci right on the cord itself and these units should be reasonably safe to the bathers. The only thing I feel you could get in trouble with is using too light of a gauge extension or too long. Both of those can cause voltage drop which means current draw (amps) goes up (ohm's law). It's already a pretty high current device, close to 15 amps and the capacity of most home circuits is 15-20 amps could push it over the edge. I made up my own extension with heavy gauge cord, also outdoor rated cord and kept the lenght as short as possible to do the job. I also put a cover over the outlet as you saw to keep the gfci from tripping. It's worked for me now for over 5 years without any issues and the cord never gets warm. Of course YMMV. Good luck!

@@robwasnj it still doesn't decrease the risk of fire. Never plug extension cords to pumps. smh.
