My 2002 BMW E39 530d (320.000 Km) was making clunking noises, mostly while turning left at low speeds. I replaced both inner tie rods and the issue apparently disappeared. You can see a rubber boot broken and so much play in the left wheel at the beginning of the video. You may need an alignment after this DIY! I hope it was helpful.

On a more serious note, I had a vibration on my '03 E39 from certain speed (70-80 mph), and when braking. I considered replacing the drive shaft giubo, the wheel hub (bearing) and the brake rotors that could have been warped. But when I checked the wheel, I had a similar shake like this that I think is the main culprit. I'm yet to find out the result. I'm gonna need that tie rod separator tool. I think this job would solve the problem......amongst many! I particularly like how you measured the original one before breaking it down for the re installment of the new one for the sake of wheel alignment.

FidoTheClown Very interesting comment, vibrations in these cars drive me crazy most of the time...good luck my friend, and definitely you will need that ball joint separator tool, not expensive tough. Check for the tyres too and remember the car might need an alignment after the job. 👍🏻

The funny thing is that my alignment is perfect. With that said, I might as well change the front strut bushings. I’m gonna need a week vacation for this job 😉 considering the giubo, wheel hub bearing, rotors and tie rods.

FidoTheClown Did you inspect the giubo for any cracks? I did, and mine seems normal so I didn’t replace it, but the thing is that giubo is original from 2002...In order to find vibration causes I would check the drive shaft center support bearing too, but I think you’ll have to remove the heat shield and the exhaust (a pain in the ass). I guess engine and transmission mounts are ok, right?

Right! A lot of work and yeah, support bearing might need to be looked at. Giubo has minor cracks. I think it might as well needs replacing. But that is a separate job and it can wait for now. I don’t want to go down the rabbit hole yet. 🤪

podríais hacer un cambio de cojinete trasero? sin prensa, que es trampa, jaja. edito, ya lo he tenéis y sin prensa, como los cromagnones de verdad, muchas gracias sois unos cracks

good video, in my case wheel trembling was brake discs, changed by me and problem dissapear. Two things: that rubber cover (bellow) was broken or are made in two pieces? after all car alignment is compulsory.

@@TheultimateDIYmachine Pues sí, cambie tambien la rotula izquierda la derecha no pude desatornillarla, pero ya veo que sí se puede sacándolo afuera de la cremallera, ya la voy a cambiar, lo que me jode que me sale mas caro alinear que la pieza, 40 euros me cobran

Can you believe somehow the metal sleeve inside steering knuckle came out with tapered shaft of tie rod? So I put ball joint separator onto it, crank, crank, crank - tool snapped. old tie rod end back into car., and I need a machine shop to separate old tie rod from metal sleeve insert. Unbelievable.

Yes I believe you because that is exactly what happened to me while replacing front thrust arms, but I manage to separate it by myself...It sucks!
