It's Back! Castle 1717 1650kv Motor - Kraton 8s first tests

How well does the new 1717 hold up to a 30lb monster basher on 8s? We test this motor on 8s in a vehicle 11lbs heavier than the maximum weight rating suggested from Castle. Think it can still throw a Kraton 8s around?
The 1717 easily was one of many first picks to use in a bash vehicle, a ton of torque and efficiency. Unfortunately they were discontinued. Finally a gen 2 version of the 1717 dropped from Castle! Sensored ready, 8s capable and much more!

I have been running an original 1717 from an xo1 for several years on 8s. I have it in my very large maverick Vader. I do have fans on it,and it never gave me any problems. I guess I just got lucky

I recommend that you put some lighter wheels on that, it would basically give more rpms and let your car really shine when the motor gives power. Those ones are just really heavy from my experience.

Hey man quick question I m trying to decide between 1250kv spektrum or this 1717 castle 1650kv?! Which one would be good for bashing with a lot more torque without overheating issues?! Thanks

More likely the 1250kv. Keep in mind the 1650 is higher rpm so it'll draw a little more amps and temps will be up, can be compensated by gearing down a few teeth to match the 1250kv motor speed. Pick and choose!

I didn't understand .help . I have zd dbx 1/7 with original motor is surpass 2000kv 4282 . I want to upgrade to 1717 but it's 1650 kv ! That will be dawn grade for my application ?not All of them rated 6s lipos . Iam lost😣

That's impressive 👍 I have thought for a while that the K8S stock motor should be higher KV since it starts at 17t and people are gearing it up to 25. Plus they have the K8S set up for 5mm shaft and Mod1 gears. Proper 1/5 scale would be 8mm shaft and Mod 1.5 So I have been curious if a motor this size would be viable and it looks like it could be 👍

Yessir. Motor is certainly caliber to get the job done. But I would certainly choose lower kv, 1650 is too much for this truck. If they made a 1200kv of it, it's be awesome!

There must be something wrong with my 1717 i put the motor in my thunder tiger mt4 with 17/44 gearing and it had lag when it took off like it struggled pushing the gear which it shouldnt have.

Will it hurt to run the 1520 1650kv on my K6S? The website says it’s intended for the K6S but I read a lot on a post saying the 1717 is a better option.

1717 is the better option yes, but you can still get away with the 1520 size just watch your temps

Hello I was thinking about getting that motor when it comes out.... but was wondering for a arrmia typhon running on 6s with the mamba monster x 8s esc ... if the 1515 2200 kv or that 1717 1650 kv would be a better choice for bashing with good speed and one that won’t overheat thanks 😊 hope somebody can help me

What's up, the 1717 is intended for vehicles half the size shown here so it will be perfect in Typhon... I intended on running this motor in a 30lb vehicle to fully test the torque capabilities on 8s. This motor will love being in a typhon!

Innovation RC ok thanks so on 6s I will get better performance that the 1515 motor and it will not get as hot 🥵... and where can I get it because I was not able to find it. Last thing I will also get about the same speed or I can go faster because it has more tork witch means I can use a bigger pinion ritght thanks for the fast reply

@@hunterjames5819 yes 1650kv gives more torque but less speed than the 2200kv. Gear up to compensate. I believe the 2200s are on backorder due to the slowdown of the virus

@@hunterjames5819 I think the 1717 will be best for long tiring runs, you'll get a high speed on 6s with the 2200kv. But if you run the 1717 on 8s it considerably outperforms the 2200kv if your looking for speed

@@TheMrTJOX go with the Castle 1717 1650kv, with the mamba monster x 8s. Run it on 6s, gear it 25 on the motor and you'll be happy. 1717 is b8gger than the 1515 2200kv, just more torque and less temperature on that voltage

Precisely. Its value is in the middle of 1/5 and 1/8 motors. So it has a great blend of both
