INSANE 9000rpm V8 powered Toyota 86

A V8 engine conversion that’s not an LS? Yes the guys at V-Sport have gone down a slightly different route on their Toyota 86. The car was initially powered by a high output turbocharged FA20 boxer engine but wanting to push further, the switch was made to a Nissan VK56 5.6L V8 engine that cranks out 800hp and sounds fantastic at 9000rpm, all backed by a Samsonas sequential gearbox.
The V-Sport team was on hand for Vic Time Attack at the Phillip Island Grand prix circuit where the car finished third in the third in the Modified Class and was the quickest naturally aspirated RWD

Drifty325i it's based off the same Titan or patrol motor but this one is still 5.6 liters while the v8 supercar motor has been destroked to 5.0 liters this might be built by the same guys that built Chris foresberg's motor Ma motorsports. Nismo value covers are also different.

The LS engines don't even sound that good with long tube headers, they're just too sloppy sounding. They have kind of a trumpeting fart quality to their exhaust note.

Mr- T I read your comment and it made me curious to see how much a used VK56DE engine cost. I was surprised to see that they go for around $1100 to $1200 for the whole engine used which is pretty cheap. It might actually be affordable to do a build. I’d have to do a lot more research to grow the balls to try swapping a VK56DE in my 370z tho 😆

I'm still an LS fan boy and love my 383ci stroker but my rods would be left dangling out the side of my block at anything over 7k let alone 9k! The Kelly brothers proved the potential of this engine and these guys have stepped it up even further. Would love to see one in an r32 GTR

Alot of people don't understand that this 5.6l vk56 is actually a really good strong engine. I have the nissan armada 5.6l and even though it's big it can get out of its own way. I've did fun slow races from stop lights and I beat dodge ram 1500 and some chevy trucks and suv.

Ik that this vid is already 4 years ago but to see a time attack V8 swapped on a lightweight car like the GT86/BRZ is really interesting!! What's really surprised me is the whole engine configuration itself didn't upset the overall balance of the car!!! I'm still learning more about these engine placements, balance and stuffs so please correct me if I have some wrong statements here or whatsoever. I'm about to do this kind of time attack racing someday and going for some engine swaps so yeah basically, I wanna learn more about the ideal engines swaps and some stuffs that i should to a track oriented builds someday!!!

Vk5k is an epic engine but the twin cam heads make them challenging to squeeze into other engine bays for conversions. I'd love to see a vid that details the conversion to learn how much work it is. Boxer engine is super wide so maybe it allows space for a fat vk56? VK56 into a 350/370z is an epic conversion imo. They fit well cos they have the factory twin cam V6 and the Z platform is pretty good albeit heavy. and, they don't ruin the handling.

VK45 been used in nissan LMP2 and GT500 cars for years. Revving over 9000rpm. The r35 gtr, 370z etc all had VK engines. The 56 is a bigger engine. But the 45 has more pedigree.
