Why would people cover hardwood floors with nasty carpet?
@destiny49455 жыл бұрын
Missy Evitt because they want too. theyve probably never had it before and they want to try something new. hard wood floors are hard to keep clean and carpet feels better on your feet and you can just vacuum instead of it constantly having hair or whatever else on it.
@54han5 жыл бұрын
@@destiny4945 Why you think it's harder to keep it clean? You also vacuum hardwood floors (nozzle with brush) and from time to time just clean it with wet mop. Way easier than washing a carpet. Also better for people with allergy - carpet tends to collect dust and mites.
@destiny49455 жыл бұрын
Sahan Suriya from experience with hard wood floors even if u vacuum or sweep it its very easy for things to get on the floor again. you dont have to wash a carpet as long as u dont spill anything on it. some hard wood floors absorb things u spill on it. if u do just get a vacuum that u run over the stain a couple times and is gone. if u regularly vacuum then dust wont build up.
@John_Malecki5 жыл бұрын
I would say its probably more of the style of the times when the house was remodeled. Carpet was becoming more available in many more colors and options. Its somewhat easier to maintain, and was trendy. I don't have a "real" answer, but that is my take.
@John_Malecki5 жыл бұрын
I think its one of those "six of one, half a dozen of the other" things and its a personal choice of maintenance style.

Personally I love the new floors. I've watched enough HGTV and DIY to know that sometimes the older floors just cannot be fixed, especially if the type of tree is not a good one to use or is no longer used to make floors. Yes sometimes you can find salvaged flooring but you start to sand it down and it splinters horribly. I think that he made the right decision for his home.

We own a 100+ year old farm house. Started pulling up the carpet in the front room. Hardwood flooring under it. Would take work to make look good, but was really excited... until we got finished pulling the carpet up in the rest of the room. Previous owners had cut holes all over the other side to install the central air, and patched using random wood pieces. Was not worth the money or effort to fix it. :( So I fully understand your reasoning in covering the sub flooring.

Oh my goodness thank you so much, finally someone who gets it!
@LoveDogs___35 жыл бұрын
John Malecki I think that might be a little different
@AnotherUtopian5 жыл бұрын
@@LoveDogs___3 Actually not really. He mentioned in a previous comment that there was places that the floor had been patched, which isn't uncommon for older homes. Maybe not to the extent ours was; were we had 3x3 foot upwards to 3x5 foot areas that were patched. But if it's enough it could make it where the entire floor would need to be replaced, which that costs a lot. Not to mention that is a pine, which is softer wood and would damage really easily. Also if he isn't doing a restore, and puts the top flooring down properly, it shouldn't damage the bottom floor in case he or a future owner wants to take the money and time to do the restore.

First time viewer. I quickly got a Pittsburgh vibe because of the old house and accent, then confirmation when you were driving to Home Depot. Scrolled through the notes section and see the Braddock address. Yinz cool @nat. Beautiful work. Subscribed!

Why the hell would you cover up those hardwood floors?!

@@funkymonkeylovin "The old floors were Doug fir, super soft. and had tons of patches that looked like shit haha" Got you covered John, no need to repeat yourself. haha

I owned a house built in the 1930s. It had the same small fireplace with no blower in 3 rooms. They would only hold 1-2 logs no longer than 10 inches. We never used them because the cost to make them safe and functional was not worth it. But they still looked great and I could not bring myself to take them out. Really miss that old house.

van Rensburg in England houses built before about the sixties had a fireplace in every single room. It was common for the majority if not all to be blocked after central heating became commonplace- a very average family home might have seven or eight fireplaces, that's a lot of chimney openings causing huge drafts and allowing lots of heat out. Plus, people considered fireplaces dirty and old fashioned. Tastes have changed again but few today would want a fireplace in every room.

That turned out awesome! I got super stoked seeing the fireplace get uncovered.

Engineered laminated flooring over quality hardwood flooring? That is a crime against humanity and old homes! But the rest of the work is top-notch!
@John_Malecki5 жыл бұрын
Hahah Greg, the only crime is when someone considers Douglas fir a hardwood. Come on man! its soft and not made to be flooring, looks awful! trust me here

You can also build it in the room piece by piece which I would've done knowing nothing is square when it comes to walls

Start of new horror movie. Move to a new house and tries to change it up, only to find a hidden fireplace. Who will survive what was once blocked off in the pit, watch to find out. Lol

Why not patch and resend the original hardwoods? Can understand wearing Pitt shorts while painting, no one wants Pitt clothing 😀

I wont take those at fighting words.... and for me, patched soft wood floors look like shit. just my opinion
