INSANE COLD HITS HOT TENT. SNOW COLLAPSES TENT

When the wind is blowing in the far reaches of Canada, it can be painful, dangerous, and deadly. Luckily I have a remote wilderness tent where I am safe from extremely freezing winds. I also have a big wood stove, and a hefty sleeping bag to keep me warm when the temperatures dip below -40.
I have 2 tents up this winter. One is set up to test its durability. But after a big dump of snow, it has been crushed. It's not broken, but it tells me that the tent may not be suitable for this kind of test.
Join me for food, coffee, and a fire in the freezing sub-arctic.

The coffee-mate would burn if thrown into the air as a cloud of dust. The same thing happens with flour, custard powder etc. (Many years ago there was an explosion in a Birds Custard Powder factory caused by a cloud of powder in the air and a spark)
@mgc1970
@mgc1970 2 жыл бұрын
100% correct.....it needs to be "aerosolized"...the particles of the Coffee-mate suspended in the air in a "cloud".....when the Mythbusters did it, they loaded the Coffee-mate into a canon of sorts and shot a huge cloud of it into the air with compressed air, and ignited the airborne cloud resulting in a HUGE thermobaric explosion

I had a job as a janitorial supervisor and my boss asked what I thought about bidding on cleaning a flour mill. I told him it was a bad idea as there was way too much risk of fire or explosion when kicking all of the flour dust in the air. Not to mention it would require special no spark vacuums.

We usually watch them just before bed and the winter videos especially are so relaxing and calming to us. I told my husband after watching this video together tonight that the food you make in your videos makes me hungrier than any of the food KZbinrs that I watch lol! For that bereg popup tent, cut a sapling and place it under the center hub so it is supported against the ground. This should help prevent the roof from collapsing inwards as you showed. For your wedge and mallet splitting technique, I'd would use a dead blow hammer (plastic shell) so that you are less likely to damage the back of the hatchet or axe that you are using for the wedge.

If you like the cold, -40˚C should make you happy. I will say that I'm relieved to see that Coffee Mate not flame up. I can't recall how close your home is to your campsite but it must not be too far if you can do day trips. Being close by makes it convenient to go check on your tents and belongings. I'm looking forward to when you do a long weekend trip. Stay warm and be safe out there in the wild!

Dear Jay, I like your videos a lot. This one brought back memories of my school days in the UK when we had canned corned beef and beef for dinner, the corned beef was not cooked though. The school was a boarding school for kids with no parents, so the food was not the best, you got what you got and you ate it because you were hungry. We got canned corned beef and canned beets for dinner and I remember how yummy it was, better than some other offerings. Nevertheless, I now want to try canned corn beef again with beets. Thank you.

I'm super impressed with the Bear tent ! Sure had you been there to maintain the tent during the snow fall it wouldn't have happened or maybe a inner support at the center. However, the design of the tent is what keep things like the tie down straps from being torn off and basically intact. It buckled at it's knees if you will, just like a spider when it rests, which saved the tent. Which I think is really cool !

Coffee-mate contains sugar and vegetable oil, so technically it is flammable. The problem is supplying it with enough oxygen to sustain combustion. If it were mixed with a lot of air, you could accomplish that (i.e. create the conditions for a dust explosion). You could also mix it with an oxidizer like potassium nitrate or sodium nitrate, but then you wouldn't want to use it in your coffee. But just for demonstration purposes, try mixing it with a little Spectracide stump remover.

I am still an avid snowmobiler, couple thousand miles a year. I notice you never wear a helmet on your snowmobile, no helmet laws in N. W. Territory? Little tip for you Jay, don't make a habit of hitting that axe with your hammer. The faces of hammers and probably the back face of your axe are hardened and tempered and can chip because your striking 2 hard faces together. With chisels it's a different ball game because the head of the chisels are softer steel and designed to absorb the blow more. One of the first things I was taught as a sheetmetalworker apprentice, never strike 2 hammer faces together. The chips can fly off real fast 😲😲 Another great video Jay , you lucky lucky man 😉 btw how's your nasal passages with the polyps ? Also your other cuboid tent needs a prop in the middle to help it shed the snow 👍 the 'UP'S are much better at shedding it off 😅🏞🪵🏕🪵🏞 All the best and see you next week 👍
