The clarity of those photos/video is insane. I remember getting a few clear mornings towards Barrow & Ulverston back in 2007 with a Canon 1DMKIIN and 100-400L lens (i.e. a lowly 8MP plus 1.3x crop sensor) but never got anything as crystal clear as those. What focal length are you using for these? If that's with a teleconverter too then I'm blown away by the quality.
@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Pete. I used a Nikon D850 and a William Optics 80 ED APO for the long range video and photographs. The focal length with the 2x converter was 1100mm at f12.

I thought you'd get a great shot of the big ship. Yesterday was indeed perfect for views. I could see Wales, Cumbria and, as you said, a tiny bit of the Isle of Mann. I chose the day taking what I thought would be breath taking images of the seascape, until I got home and discovered that the Dust Bunnies had taken up residence on my camera's sensor. Doh! The Bazooka/camera combo worked really well capturing Cumbria's largest cul-de-sac. 😁

I would love to go up Blackpool Tower on a clear day, and get good views of the Lake District and Welsh mountains, the Isle of Man, Forest of Bowland hills, West Lancashire with Southport and Ormskirk and close to Liverpool, and buildings in Preston like St Walburges church spire. From Rivington moor near the television transmiiter it is possible to see the Republic of Ireland on a clear day.
@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool3 жыл бұрын
I was never sure if Ireland was visible from the top of the tower, but I suppose with perfect visibility and other conditions, it may be possible to see the tops of the Mourne Mountains. I saw a post on a website where someone took a picture from Winter Hill, and they captured the Isle of Man, but possibly Ireland as well.

Awesome pictures Stephen, it’s mad to think it’s 20 ish miles as the crow flies but would take a couple of hours to drive to Barrow. I’m pretty sure that back in the 80’s the Airport at Walney did commercial flights to Blackpool and Manchester. If they did, it would have saved a lot of travel time.
