Unless you need to be fresh when you land, it's almost never actually worth to upgrade your flight. Just save your money and assume that every flight is going to be the most uncomfortable experience then be pleasantly surprised when there are no crying babies.

Yea but first class LITERALLY ain’t uncomfortable….like…that’s what you pay for 😂❤
@inplfw21 күн бұрын
@@Macheako My position is basically either way you're stuck in a metal tube in the sky. When the flight is coming out of my pocket I'll save the $50+/hr in exchange for being uncomfortable. I usually only fly domestically US and I live pretty much in the middle, so I'm speaking as someone that only has to deal with it for a few hours. If I was coast to coast or international more often I might have a different take.
@williamhornabrook808121 күн бұрын
Doesn't it work out pretty well for a Destiny type of guy who can claim it as a business expense on his taxes?
@inplfw21 күн бұрын
@@williamhornabrook8081 Assume Destiny is hitting the highest tax bracket of 37% (+socsec and medicare) and his business is set up in a way where he pays taxes through his personal taxes. If he's going to fly he has the option to either spend 200 on economy or 600 on first class in a scenario where he can claim it as a business expense. This choice basically boils down to giving the airline the extra 400 tax free or keeping that 400 difference and banking ~200 eoy after taxes. Business expenses for most self-employed/small-businesses is just spending money in a way that reduces their taxable income, which comes off the top in the highest bracket. Really nice when you can't avoid an expense (like the 200 for economy in that example), but frivolous spending still costs money. If he was instead considering 200 vs 600 for a piece of streaming equipment he's essentially getting $400 more worth of microphone for example, then all of a sudden that effectively 200 out-of-pocket seems like it's getting a good value. With a plane ticket, though, the money has created no value other than the fleeting comfort while flying.
@inplfw21 күн бұрын
@@williamhornabrook8081 In a situation where he's flying Miami to NYC and tickets were 200 for economy or 600 for first class, either way he can claim the ticket so the 400 difference is what we're considering. Destiny could basically choose between giving the airline that $400 or keeping that 400, paying taxes on it, and pocketing about $200. I typed out a longer response that concisely demystified business expenses, but KZbin decided to eat it.

Destiny, Iranian people try to rise up every couple of years, there’s a huge contingent of people who hate the government there
@RockDownMC21 күн бұрын
Agreed. He makes this argument that all governments fall to the will of their peoples. He cites Egypt as an example. Except the coup that happened in Egypt was more due to the military falling out of favour with their government. When the government and its military work hand in hand to put down oppression... like when Iran did to put down the woman life freedom movement... its very hard to overcome.
@jd818420 күн бұрын
@@RockDownMChe didn’t make that argument at all. He argued that all autocratic governments have to have some support from at least a portion of the population including and especially its military . Thats why in egypt a coup happened but in a place like syria the military was fiercely loyal to Assad
@RockDownMC20 күн бұрын
@jd8184 disagree. Syria is a awful example as that country has been in a 3 way civil war between Assad, anti Assad, and ISIS. He was making this whole rant that autocratic regimes are scared of their people and how they are not like Saturday morning cartoons. That ultimately these governments must appease their people or they will face betrayal from within. But handling regimes like Iran and North Korea can hold onto power through brutal repression.
@jd818420 күн бұрын
@@RockDownMC Syria is a good example and is a perfect contrast to the situation in Egypt. The latter did not have a military that was loyal to the regime and the military decided to portray itself as being for the people because they knew the way the wind was blowing. In efffect, the military was bending towards the will of the general population and seperated itself from the regime. On the other hand, the military in syria was vastly loyal to Assad due to ethnic ties. This allowed a level of appeal to the military since the ethnic minorities that made up the military would be purged and persectued just like the ethnic fighing that happened in Iraq after 2003. In this case, the military knows that Assad will be able to have their safeguard and interests in mind. this is a perfect example of what destiny argued: that autocratic leaders are still beholden to their population, to the military or to special interests
@jd818420 күн бұрын
@@RockDownMC "He was making this whole rant that autocratic regimes are scared of their people" -They literallly are especially those in Iran and North korea. Thats why they restrict freedom of information and a whole host of other freedoms. They also paint themselves as bulwarks against western imperialism. Destiny is so naive regarding some of this stuff. How does he conclude that Israel responding to Iran for being attacked is not logical to him ? Of course they were gonna respond
@nighthowell21 күн бұрын
Uh, maybe because the whole reason Iran conducted their operation was because Israel blew up Iran’s consulate in Syria like 10 days ago. Do you think nations extrajudicially blowing up foreign consulates is commonplace? No, that is a huge deal. What do you think would happen if Iran blew up an Israeli embassy, killing one of their top military brass? Yeah, shit would hit the fan immediately. If a tenuous peace is the goal, Israel should have called it square after Iran’s little theatrical response, and moved on. Iran’s counter-demonstration paled in comparison to Israel’s provocation, and Iran could not let an attack of such magnitude slide without responding. But tenuous peace isn’t the goal for Israel. Israel wants long term regional security, and that means regime change in Iran, and for Iran’s nuclear capability to be permanently hamstrung. So Israel is trying to provoke Iran into a direct conflict, because they know the United States will be backing their cause. Iran knows it too.

The term that Destiny is talking about is legitimacy, every government has to maintain legitimacy. In political science we use this term to describe where a government gets its power. In a democracy we get legitimacy from votes and in an authoritarian state the get it from the approval of the people. Authoritarian states can encroach way more on their peoples right but if they go to far they run the risk of rebellion. Power is a form of legitimacy and theoretically if you control enough you can have unlimited legitimacy but in reality even dictators have to appeal to people for support.
@8kajetan20 күн бұрын
The issue is the wording destiny said, "They have a little more leeway." they do not have a LITTLE more leeway. They can utilise the manipulation of reality ALOT more than other government forms.
@plsjustnathan120 күн бұрын
@@8kajetan it depends on the government. If we’re talking about Iran they have to be very cautious about their legitimacy because they have a rocky relationship with their citizens. Less legitimacy almost always leads to less stability and Iran is not a stable country. If Iran doesn’t make their people somewhat happy they definitely run the risk of a revolt. It also depends on how you define A LOT of leeway, they can have the legal ability to do way more but it comes at a major cost. Democracy has less power in the hands of the government but the trade off is more stability. Basically what I’m saying is authoritarian states definitely have to keep approval in mind because the consequences of their encroachment on rights have way more dangerous consequences such as having your entire family line killed or dealing with terrorists. On the other hand North Korea has so much central power that their people aren’t able to revolt. As a political science major think in most cases Destiny is correct and this is taught in like the first couple classes. It’s definitely not a new political idea it’s widely accepted.

I'll take his opinion after 6 months of research over your opinion based on nothing. This is equivalent to the vaccine conversation. You can't hindsight your way into being "right all along" about what would have been the correct course of action in the past.

@@silversalmon9909Same way he waited forever to realize Crowder was clearly abusing his wife while destiny said "wait for more information!!" Meanwhile Crowder is openly emotionally abusing the wife, have recordings of it happening, & timelines are given where you know she's giving double birth & he's out somewhere else begging for sympathy about an elective surgery on Twitter & denying her the ability to go anywhere on her own. The guy who can't navigate his own relationships is telling other people to 'wait for more' on a clearly abusive relationship to anyone rubbing 3 brain cells together. He stops denying reality when it's impossible to ignore what's going on because his suspension of disbelief is always at 100% & he'll wait as long as possible before he's pulled kicking & screaming to confront it

The Son of Hamas told in an interview that Mosad or Israel knows attacks were going to happen but they let it be so they are justified to retaliate and escalate attacks. That's why he broke ties with the IDF. While IDF is not a bad guy, he is like a veteran who says, sometimes, you have to break an egg to make an omelette or in short, they are willing to sacrifice some of their own, to win the war.

The idea that Iran can just lob as many missiles as they want towards Israel under the guise that retaliation wouldn't come for fear of sparking an international incident is BS and I'm glad Ben called their bluff.

It's like when some child starts kicking an adult in the street, the adult isn't allowed to fight back without somebody concern-trolling "Aw how dare you attack some innocent child, they don't know any better"

Gaza war is a perfectly proportionate retaliation for October 7th, but Iran doing an extremely weak missile attack in retaliation for a strike against their consulate failing to even come close to matching the kill count is guise of retaliation that justifies further acts of war.

I think that Israel should have exhausted all its diplomatic options before this strike, which at the very least accomplished nothing. The US was about to impose more meaningful sanctions on Iran. Wasn't the lack of international cooperation the reason Israel escalated the war in Gaza?
