@clydebear69143 ай бұрын
@@Greg_P611 It's mainly due to the immigrant population of Singapore since Standford Raffles established it as a British colonial port in the early 1800's. As business boomed as a "free port" with no taxes or tarriffs, immigrant workers poured in from southern China (mainly Hainan), and also Malaya, India and also of course Britain as the overlords. Today the ethnic breakdown of Singapore is 76% Chinese, Malay 15%, Indian 7.5% and mixed (including western) the rest. This does not mean Singapore is a de-facto "brother" of China, they are in fact very much their own country, but they do have strong cultural ties with China. Having said that, they do share very similar oppressive political systems where opposition to the ruling party is more or less outlawed and human rights do not exist.

That’s so disappointing to see that friendly check-in agent allow that passenger circumvent the baggage allowance by packing 20kg into one carry on bag! Depending upon class of travel the allowance increases, but there is a maximum per bag due to the safety of others onboard. That unfairly sets up the cabin crew for unnecessary challenges at boarding. It’s way and above the cabin allowance, for one bag. Depending upon the airline the bag can be no heavier than either 8 - 10kg it also won’t fit in the overhead stowage. It’s a real trap with various allowance rules depending upon whether one is travelling to and from the US where it’s X amount of pieces with a good weight allowance, or.all other destinations where it’s weight irrespective of the number of checked items That’s where eTickets bite, the original coupon based tickets clearly showed the weight/price allowance per sector. If all on one continuous journey the applicable allowance gets applied the entire journey irrespective of how many sectors travelled. The rule applied is based on the country the journey originated. So confusing for people not paying attention to the details and can cost a lot of money, especially if there are multiple sectors. Internet reservations and ticketing is so convenient but there are many traps for those unaware.
@jenlfpotter38702 жыл бұрын
That might have depended on what was actually inside the bag, for example, essential , medication, baby change and feeding products and equipment or anything else which simply couldn't be put into the hold. We don't know everything.
@sydyidanton58732 жыл бұрын
@@jenlfpotter3870 Hi Jen, Sorry for not responding sooner. I've taken the time to explain this, to help you out and be prepared, not to challenge your comment in any way. I totally appreciate where you are coming from. My knowledge and experience with this comes from working for many years as aircrew with a couple of major airlines, and an awful brief time on the ground as airport staff. It's a little lengthy, but here goes... If travelling with an infant you are allowed an extra bag for exactly what you've described. It still must be within the allowable weight though. It's a safety issue. Imagine a heavy bag hitting someone on the head, if the locker is opened without caution (items shift around inflight) or in severe turbulence a heavier bag can pop some lockers open and fall. A weight of even 7kg will cause neck injuries, heavier ones will cause nasty head injuries - particularly is it's an elderly passenger. It has happened to me as crew, after months of pain and other issues I ended up needing surgery on my cervical spine and now 10 years later it's still not fixed, I've now got a titanium plate and screws thanks to someone who'll never know what they did! That's why there are rules that have to apply to everyone, you can not predict every scenario - so it just needs to be avoided. Essential medications, items of value, important documents etc should always be carried in cabin baggage. Be absolutely sure of the volumes though when it comes to the LAGs (liquids, aerosols and gels) rule. So many people loose their favourite fragrance because the bottle is over 100mL and they didn't realise, also bottles of wine they think will be safer in their cabin bag than in their checked luggage. But again, it needs to be within the weight and size limit. If you are ever required at check-in to repack due to weight etc, the airline ground agent should explain, politely, what to ensure is in your cabin baggage and what is not. There are also rules for the carriage of dangerous goods (DGs), some items must be checked while others must be in cabin bags only, a couple of items can only be carried on you. There are many regulations to follow. While it seems like a hassle and it's confusing, please know it's often a legal requirement and it is always 100% for the safe and secure operation of the flight you are travelling on. You are absolutely correct that many passengers do not know, that is where the airline staff are there to help and advise. Some are better than others, but that's customer service - you get some champions and some horrors. The information is also on each respective airline's website, it really is worth taking a few minutes to do your research. I agree it could be made a lot clearer and more obvious, but even then most people don't look. Heck they don't even watch the safety demo/video half the time, and that is vital need-to-know information to prepare you to react immediately should anything happen. But that is an whole other conversation :) Low Cost airlines almost deliberately make the baggage allowance rules hard to find, then they can hit you with their overpriced fees. That's how they make their money off those low fares! Sneaky and cruel I think, because it often stings those who can least afford it. Please do educate yourself though on the weights and sizes of respective luggage when you fly. The airline won't accept 'you did not know', they'll only accept your credit card to pay the fees! Some less orthodox airlines almost depend upon it, especially the Low Cost airlines, read ALL their rules - they are cunning! Because each Kg of weight is equivalent to fuel burned, airlines charge very expensive rates for excess baggage. Low Cost airlines often may not have even included checked baggage in your fare, if you only need to check one silly item because of DGs/security rules - they'll hit you with their crazy fees. They are ruthless! Know the allowance for each flight you are taking if it is with more than one airline. There are also different allowances for travelling DIRECTLY to and from the US (the 'piece' system) and others for anywhere else (the 'weight' system). That catches a lot of people out. From memory that was the issue in the documentary that I commented about, where the agent made some poor choices. If you would like to know more or wish to clarify anything I've said, please respond back and I will reply, sooner I would hope than this time! Maybe share this information with your friends and family when they travel. Many many people are caught out every day with this subject - everywhere. The poor check in staff end up by being the 'heat-shield' for people's justifiable anger and frustration over what seems to be unfair and unclear rules. I hope this has helped in some way, I often wish I could help everyone understand all of the nuances with air travel, but I hope I have at least helped you. Take care, safe travels, and have a terrific day wherever in the world you are. Best wishes from down here in Australia! Cheers, Anton

This doco must be at least 5 years old. It was on PayTV channels for a long, long, long time ago. Everything has changed. It's all totally different now, and KoVid19, KoVid20, CoVid21, and Covid22 now. It's all changed. C'est La Vie 😷

@S.H.A.D.O.9992 жыл бұрын

If they have only 30-40 seconds to get to their posts, what happens if you are droppin’ a big deuce? You can’t suck it back up or push it out faster (not without hurting yourself). Does everyone wait for you?
