i dont work cause im scared bro. I work to provide a better life for my family, so my kids dont miss out. Isn't this why you went straight? Even though i basically live in the same hood i grew up in, just on the other side of the river i know i've done right by my kids.... The misses and i worked our asses of for year as casuals with no holidays to get our mortgage just to provide somewhere stable for our kids. My son is 18 next year, and in 4 months he'll already be doing better than i was at his age. He going to graduate high school, i didn't. I guess you are right. I was working because i was scared, i was scared of letting down my kids and not being there for them, just like dad. But i stayed, i provided. i'd do it all again in a heartbeat.

I watch these because im Australian and i have a connection to the places you visit to some degree as this place is my home. I grew up in Campbelltown, a misunderstood place with a bad reputation but actually not that bad. I felt safe walking to the shops. I didnt feel safe walking alone in Airds. They are just being silly. They are victims of circumstance and environment. But it is a subculture you can go just about anywhere in Australia and see growing, and have been able to at least since I was a teen in the '00s. I don't think you can deny that general society since then has only gone in a direction that disenfranchises the kids on the fringes more and more until you wind up with these practically uniformed comrade bands with a disdain for every part of society they're not included in. The more socially-accepted development aspects of Australian culture are driving this. I live not too far from where Spanian got off the bus and can vouch for Moonah getting a good dose of attempted gentrification and associated pushback as you can buy the worst $7 coffee you've ever experienced a stone's throw from adlays skipping school to start fires in the public toilet block. I want to agree it's not a great subculture to encourage but the more the rest of society tries to regulate what's accepted and proper while *intentionally* pushing the underclasses into the kinds of financial stresses (e.g. housing costs doubling here in a decade) that reverberate through families into the youth, the worse things are going to get.

No, Spanian, that's not my culture. Lived in Hobart for 6 years while I was going to university and getting my degree. I lived in West Moonah during that time, and the people I saw and associated with didn't look like cooked units. Those people are not the culture. Those are people who need to break the cycle - Tasmania has some of the worst education rates in Australia. Instead of embracing their boganhood, maybe they should work on making better lives for themselves. I worked at BWS in those parts, and the amount of shoplifters we would have would make Melbourne and other areas look good in comparison. Be the change.

The problem people have with the Eshay culture is the trend of crime committing to innocent people and the drugs involved that the culture. I think the purpose of these videos disappears when you begin to glorify petty crime and the lifestyle. The reality is people do get brought up like this but, it doesn’t make it good. Reinforcement of anti social behaviour or however you want to spin it, will just continue the cycle 10 fold. Personally I started watching these videos because I found it interesting to be inside a community I wouldn’t otherwise be in (especially the Europe content). Of course there’s gona be a crowd that rips skids, but I wana see the reason why the government and local council are fucked, not the reason the community has fucked their selves. You know yourself most people are a product of the environment they grow up in, most of these young men will never realise there’s a whole world out there waiting for them. There’s so much more to life than sitting in a hood and going in circles.. All good for you to sit there and say “adlay culture is taking over” while you’re flying round the world enjoying the good life. You made it out bro, you should be encouraging them to be doing the same. There has to be a point where these lads break the cycle and want to do better for themselves too.. That’s the message we should be pushing to the youngens.. These young men need more opportunities and resources. I grew up in housing commission myself, it was a similar go round.. Junkies and criminals left right and centre. Luckily I had the perspicacity to break my own cycle and do more with my life. Couldn’t imagine being segregated in my own community not being able to get no where, nothing to do, no outlet.. I’d for sure be one of these lads too. That’s the sad part, watching these kids knowing full well I’d 100% be one of them if I grew up in the same place. So much potential just getting thrown down the drain.. Somethings got to give.. Encouraging these kids by glorifying the rubbish culture they’re stuck in isn’t it.. You’ve got a platform to change lives, do more with it bro. Don’t let it go to waste..

I grew up in the Northern Suburbs and had a different experience, and I am now raising kids there. Sadly Greely and the kids were right that the council in Glenorchy has let a lot of the recreational places go..the skate park ( there is one about 2km straight up the road from the bus mall they were sitting in. And buses go there. Its situated in a huge park( which saddly has been allowed to run down, but some work is being done on it now.) The council did let the local pool go, and are now trying to close it. They also gave away money to build a new bmx track once the old one closed. There is still a youth center ( PULSE) in Glenorcchy, its just up to the road in a different building. As for the police moving the kids on from the "park" (its actually just a tiny garden outside the Council chambers, next to e bus mall) They do this NOT because of tourism, but because the kids bash or follow other kids getting off a bus in school uniform sometines trying to rob them. Other times just for kicks. They also harrass the elderly and have stolen old lady's handbags. So the answer has been to move groups of yourh away from the bus station as people are frightened to catch buses Sadly both my kids, their mates and my elderly parents have experienced this first hand. Which is unfair on other kids who live in Glenorchy too. They arent rich or lookinh down on anyone, just going to school. I agree moving the street kids on, especially when theres nothing in the area to do is counter productive and the Council need to look at deceloping some areas where they can just hang with theur mates, with something to do so they arent hastling kids who are just going g to and from school....but as i say there is a huge park with a skate park in it, not to mention a mountian bike track loterally 2km from where tgey were sitting

( In my experience, whilst youth do burnouts and ride electric bikes and trail bikes on the roads occasionally, it's not usually like shown. This is the mob showing off for the camera). Oh, and he might not have advertised his visit himself. A search of Facebook brings up several who were posting about where they were taking him next I don't think saying people who work do so because they are scared is helpful. That's looking down on those that like all the people he visited. I just want to get on with their lives. Or is working not cool now? We can't all be rappers or hip hop stars ( which is um...working, isn't it?) Here's a thought. I agree that reviving the existing tracks and providing passenger trains would be amazing. However, in themeantimee, how about their be a program to encourage some locals from the area that the buses stopped going to as kids were stoning them and fighting on the bus, to be bus drivers.. Maybe if people who are part of their hood were employed to provide the bus service, there would be some respect for the drivers, and the people could get to wherever they need/want

I think part of the appeal is simply hanging out in a publicly-trafficked place with their mates. A couple years back there was a group that would hang around the cycleway outside New Town High outside of school days just because it was a place they had group association with from gathering behind the rail embankment (out of sight of staff) before school. Even if there's something to do it doesn't help if they don't feel good doing those things (especially the early stages of any skilled hobby where you fail a lot) or just aren't interested in the first place.

I see that and it irks me too but one thing i can tell you from experience cleaning public houses is you must also blame the poor quality and lack of maintenance in these properties also. Some tenants dont care because the place is falling apart and theyve reportrd it many times but the gvt wont fix it so they stop caring too. Sone are just really lazy, some are mebtally ill and have hoarding issues...that the housing authority have inspected each year for 20+ years in so many instances and told them they are ' a good tenant' and not said a word about it once. Maintenance and upkeep is the responsibility not only not being upheld by tenants but is also not being upheld by the landlords..which is who? The government ie tax payer. Whos investments arent being maintained by all involved. Lets be real. Also lets be real about why theyll put a junkie fresh out of prison without a child in a 3 bedroom town house which debt collectors threw a molitov cocktail at and nearly burned down on the adjoining property to a 'deserving family' (my best friend and godkids) instead of another 'deserving family'.....gives them an excuse to board it up and sell it off sooner doesnt it? Its on purpose mate. Get it now?

Watching you walk past the house I had in gagey as a teen mum was profoundly disturbing, I succeeded by getting out through education, determination and hard work, but that was in spite of the systems set in place to “help”. I watch these kids gather and cried unashamedly because they are now 4th and 5th generation unemployed, stuck out in the middle of nowhere with no one really understanding or caring. When no one has hope for you how can you have hope in yourself? Walking in Bridgewater the boys start calling the name of a gang leader who gang bashed my son recently and my empathy is still in tact, but not many people truly understand these areas and the products of their environment. We need to do better and that starts with decent housing in areas closer to services, no more “slums”. You did however fail to mention there was other altercations with police in Bridgewater at covehill, it wasn’t isolated to gagebrook. Come on brother you know you turn up and you’re going to gather a crowd, show positive energy man, show them how to respect without disrespect
