FYI The young fella in the 79 landcruiser was on 35 psi when he started the recovery. He was aware he might need to reduce pressures but thought he'll have a go first. After struggling with the recovery, he deflated to 18 psi and that's when the magic happened! This is a great example of how tyre pressure makes a difference. Good onya mate!!!

My first trip to Frazer Island was in 1978 in my new FJ40. I was there for 3 weeks, went all over the place on “SKINNYS”. The tyres were Dunlop Road Track Majors 750x16 (Cross Ply’s) I ran them at 15psi and never got bogged once.😊
@adamsimpson20414 жыл бұрын
Skinny tyres are a bit better for sand. Plenty of sidewall to play with but less displacement in front of your tyres so you're not pushing through as much. Solid effort though. 3 weeks on faser in an old fj and these guys can't even get to the barge.

Somewhere in all this madness there must be a way to make some good money. Two small teams both sides. It can be done from a diving cylinder. Hmmm, crate of beer as payment maybe.

6:48 the white pickup "ranger" is a good example of an improper setup. as soon as he get off, he slows down and get stuck again. it is because the contact patch and car weight is improper for the condition. he need to deflate his tyres (it make them act as bigger wheels) or remove weight. this car is clearly not made for offroad as the tyres are too small for the vehicule weight.

Looked as though his problem was the same as the others. He just had to get the pressures down. They don't have the best ground clearance at 209mm so providing there is no soft plastic underneath to rip off and a capable driver that understands it's limits and with the right equipment, he might do ok. Also would help to have a travelling companion with a 4WD to pull it out if there are any difficulties. It would probably go about as far as the Pajero with the low profiles on because at least the BMW had a little more sidewall - although today I found out that I only lose 14mm when I drop mine down to 15psi.
