Rachel Richards, I have to tell you that I have had shoulder and upper back tension for DECADES. I tried to get my husband to massage that area for years, it did no good, he hates to give massages :-( and it always felt sore. WELL. I came across your video where you say to grab that area between the shoulder and the neck with a “duck” grip while shoulder is raised high, then drop shoulder while still holding it (w opposite hand) and turn head to opposite shoulder. WELL, GUESS WHAT. Pain gone, tension gone, soreness gone. As I was doing it, I thought to myself, this is not doing anything. But as soon as I finished (it only takes about 5 or 10 seconds), it was all gone. I did both sides. Worked perfectly. In fact, I no longer needed anyone to massage that area, no yearning for a massage there, it was all better. I still cannot believe it. Now if you have something for upper back between shoulder blade and spine on each side of back PLEASE post something for that as that is my other place of tension besides the very top of back between shoulder and neck that you have now cured. I can see maybe having to do it again sometime but it has been about 2 months, still wonderful. Why have I never heard of that remedy before??? Thank you so much, I cannot thank you enough. I told my husband a little miracle occurred thanks to you. Bless you!

I'm so happy to hear that the shoulder release helped you get rid of your pain! Thank you for sharing your story :) As for your question, upper back tension is usually a result of poor posture. When we round forward over our computers, phones, on the couch, and in the car, the muscles in the front of the chest become short and tight, causing the upper back muscles to lengthen and strain to hold up your spine. It's the short muscles in front that really need the work to help alleviate the back. Try any of my videos on posture. Here are a couple to get you started: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5Cbh3yCgc53a9U and kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3PPi2CvfcesZ9k

Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble sleeping, Wade. Some tips: make sure you give yourself at least an hour to wind down from the day - dim lights, turn off all screens, maybe take a warm bath, do some Yoga, or read for pleasure. Make sure your bedroom is a little on the cool side. Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. You may also need to reduce your level of anxiety. There are many ways to treat anxiety.
