It seriously hurt me that I missed them, that they could have gotten hurt at my negligence, so from then on i didn't miss a single crime in progress.

You mentioned something I really never saw anybody talk about. The stealth sections with MJ and Miles really make you understand how *normal* people would feel encountering those threats. It's such a strong contrast to the Spidey gameplay! I can't express enough how scary Rhino is to MIles, a 15 year old boy trying to sneak past him. And yet afterwards Spidey not only takes on that scary monster, but he does it _at the same time_ as Scorpion. That is such an empowering feeling that also helps you appreciate just how important Spidey is for the non-powered people.
@reecejohnston98173 жыл бұрын
I can’t believe I’m commenting on this since it was 2 years ago but here we are, I see both sides of the argument, I agree that it can give a better understanding of how normal people feel in these situations and help Spider-Man feel more powerful, but I think it can also be seen as a big stunt in the pace of the story like most say and can sometimes take you out of it, I like the mj section in normans penthouse because it builds lore and it’s nice to see more about the story through articles and pictures but the other sections which don’t do the same such as the mj mission in tombstones garage are a pace breaker
@basedbattledroid35072 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree, it did a perfect job of showing the threats Spidey faces from the perspective of someone who doesn't have his great powers
@baki4842 жыл бұрын
I have not issue with most of the MJ and miles sections. I've stated this in other comment sections helps show you the threat from a normal person. Like the Cafe opening from arkham knight giving us the perspective of a cop hopped up on fear gas. Come into my parlor Don't touch the art Breaking into the Sable base in Central park. For Miles running from rhino Evading the demons Even the second one showing us the Sable occupation.

The game will absolutely get a sequel. There are still so many bad guys they can use. Green Goblin, any of the symbiotes, Kraven the hunter, Mysterio and thet can easily use some c-list badguys like Tombstone or general marvel villains like Taskmaster who arent spiderman exclusive.

DenyingEnigma95 an extremely controversial and widely reviled story arc in the Amazing Spider-Man comic in which Peter makes a deal with Mephisto (aka Satan) to give up his marriage with MJ in exchange for saving Aunt May’s life (who was dying from a gunshot wound meant for Peter). It was the result of an editorial mandate by Marvel executives (specifically Joe Quesada) to make Peter single again and reset the status quo because apparently “married couples are harder to relate to”. Naturally, it was very negatively received and is now one of the most infamous stories in the Spidey canon over a decade later, up there with Sins Past and the 90’s Clone Saga

I think my favorite part of the narrative is when MJ sneaks into the Sable camp in Central Park. The entire time I was like: "This is insane, she's sneaking into a military base filled with armed guards that could shoot her at any moment." Then later when Peter is texting MJ over it he starts getting frustrated over it too, he had the same thoughts I did. And right there is when the story and I connected and I love that. Peter and I recognize how INSANE it was for her to do something so risky without any backup.

Same with me here, the stealth sections never really bothered me at all in my playthrough. Yes it's annoying to not have Spidey's powers as a fallback and just die instantly when spotted, but then I realised how important it is for these differences to be highlighted. MJ and Miles are really fragile compared to Peter and the lack of power helps ground the characters and illustrates the 'great power' Peter has. It probably wasn't the best way they could've handled it, but I feel that they're only extremely minor flaws in an otherwise perfect game. Overall, I can say that our over TEN YEARS worth of waiting for a truly great Spider-Man game was worth it. Can't wait for the DLC.

Mmm, gotta disagree on MJ a bit. MJ was a lot more than a model in the comics, and CERTAINLY not just a damsel. She's also not been the "bombshell party girl" archetype for years, and even then there was more to her than just that. She was quite the nuanced female character even back in the days when that was an uncommon thing. I love the game version as well, but that's because I see her AS a transplant of Comic MJ into a new role. The same feistiness, the same spunk, the same strong support figure. Just with a new career path.
@stanfordfeynman27964 жыл бұрын
Danny D's World I loved comic MJ, but her game personality is still very off to me. In the comics, MJ was outwardly selfish in her party girl role, especially after her trauma from home life, but she was still internally very caring and conflicted through that period in her life. Post Gwen’s death, she matured and became a much more nurturing, kind, and rational person. 1610 MJ skipped on the outward selfishness and even some interests, but maintained her signature consideration and kindness. Any feistiness they had were playful, but the game interprets that as meaning being periodically rude. In the game, after a long history with Peter, she’s still brash and inconsiderate, often not thinking about the implications of what she involves herself in. She has this overwhelming sense of self-importance, which is much more in line with 616 Gwen in the late Ditko era more than anything else. With the exception of some scenes, such as kitchen scene and ending scenes which were absolutely brilliant, she is very much an inwardly selfish person, often being rude to Peter with little to no reason other than the plot demanding it for advancement. Despite being in a larger role with even her 1610 inspired occupation, she ends up becoming the annoying plot device who won’t listen to reason. Not to say they don’t have their moments, but those are more driven by well written and relatable dialogue than actual character understanding of MJ exclusively. Ironically, comic MJ, both 616 and even 1610, were typically the more emotionally mature ones in the relationship, as they served as the lenses for the grounded issues that Peter could never see when distracted (Sort of like a non-toxic Reed and Sue relationship). Sorry for the long paragraph, but I’d thought I’d add my perspective as I still disagree with his comic MJ sentiment
@tlozmeowcatz79913 жыл бұрын
@@stanfordfeynman2796 I highly disagree with this. Most of the moments of her coming across as "selfish" as you say are literally just her wanting to do her job while Pete won't let her. It's a big part of their relationship in this game and is part of why they split. It's completely understandable from both their perspectives, it seems like you're just looking at this through Pete's lens of understanding, which undermines her own experience and actual role in what she does. What she's doing is dangerous, but it's ultimately for the best and is part of why she does her job. She puts herself in danger in order to help people, same as Pete. The whole message of Spider-man as a character is that even without powers, anyone can be a hero, and MJ encapsulates that in this game, same as Miles or Aunt May. Not saying her older version doesn't do this as well, but it seems like you're leaving out a lot of important aspects of her character and perspective in that analysis. Which moments is she outwardly too rude during for little to no plot reason either? One standout moment to me of her just being completely understanding and outwardly selfless is her apologizing to how she reacted after finding out Peter might have a kid. She realizes that he's going through something potentially a lot worse, and is then understanding after being brash, something that I would be hard pressed to find in too many other fictional relationships. Also older MJ had plenty of moments where she was being unfair, tends to happen in superhero relationships in general. I doubt this game had anything more than usual, it seems like people just pay attention more now because they changed her profession.

the thing I love most about this version of Doc Ock is that he's given the option to turn back. He could've taken off the arms and gone back to his ordinary life, but he _chose_ to turn back on the neural interface. And that made it feel much more earned than say, Spider-Man 2's version of the character.

I LOVE THIS VIDEO I don’t know why but I have been drawn to rewatch it at least FOUR times now. The use of all the Spider-Man’s cinematic soundtracks and also using the main theme from the game really drew me in and made me feel the most nostalgic than anything else on KZbin has done before. Your use of a great vocabulary never hinders what you are trying to say and all of the audio quality seems good to me. At some points it does seem like the subject goes on but I think that may depend on how much you are into the review and how deep you want to look into it. Overall I would say this is the reason why KZbin is a great site that allows it’s users to be as creative as they can while talking about the things they love.

Best part of the game? Peter is written like a bloody adult!! For years, writers insist on regressing Peter and writing him like an immature teenager, even though he is a grown man in his 40s. In this game, Peter is mature, responsible and is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to save the city! This is the Spider Man I want to read in the comics, not the irresponsible man child marvel keeps shoving down our throats.

@joelman19896 жыл бұрын
To be fair Peter is not in his 40's. At least not always. There are many different Peter's throughout different universes. The MCU is just one where Peter is just becoming the Spider-Man. He almost always begins his career while in high school. I don't know when he's been an irresponsible man-child. MCU's Spiderman is an actual child. And when whether he is a teenager or an adult he is usually depicted as a combination of mature and immature. He usually sucks at paying his bills especially his rent (immature) cracks juvenile jokes in inappropriate times (Immature) but always taking responsibility (mature) Making very difficult decisions that are much more than good choice bad choice even up to ultimate sacrifice like you said (mature).

Here's a theory I have. Eddie did become Venom sometime after Peter left the Bugle. The beginning of the second game will have Peter fighting Eddie in a flashback. He loses the Venom symbiote and gets sent to Ravencroft. Then Oscorp somehow gets its hands on the Symbiote.

"If I were in Peter's shoes, I probably would have given up all my responsibilities and become a functionally/socially catatonic wash-up at numerous potential points by now" is not an infrequent thought for me when consuming Spider-Man stories anymore. @faelirra6 жыл бұрын
While that might be true in sales, when it comes to the wider audience people have been sour on Superman since superman 3 and 4 (Not talking about comic book fans themselves but the casual movie goer as well etc.). The character on the big screen really hasn't recovered. Also while he had his own cartoon show and was part of the justice league cartoons. The fans still gravitated to Batman much much more than Superman. I think it's more that even though the 2 (Spider-man and Batman) are still out there, they're also still relatable. Superman is basically a god in power levels to most people and quite simply a god with boy scout views can simply put be boring. While making him Darker destroys the character (Looking at you Zack)

"-a world where the bombshell party girl is no longer the romantic ideal it once was" I'm honestly kinda disappointed in this direction for MJ, mainly cause it's a bit of a disappointing shuffling of personality types instead of using all of them. Mary Jane isn't really BEST girl for me but I honestly think her personality shift is kiiiinda weird because it ends up just turning her into Gwen Stacy. At least, the Gwen Stacy that I know of from the Spectacular Spider-man cartoon. Gwen is your down to earth best friend who's still, you know. A girl and you need to remember to treat her like one. And MJ is the hottest girl in the neighborhood who's also super cool about letting things slide that most other girls wouldn't.This is doubly weird since in this universe Green Goblin doesn't exist yet so Gwne should, like, still totally be alive. In that cartoon MJ is polyamorous and would date other guys in addition to Peter which was such a fun spin on the character I wish they could have tapped into in a more adult setting. It was a missed opportunity to not have every single love interest Peter has ever had hitting up his phone at different times of the day. MJ, Gwen, Liz, Black Cat, Betty Brant. Do you understand what I'm saying, Geoff? This could have been a Spidey Harem Anime happening in the background of your Spidey game! But when you think about it this game is weirdly light on Spidey's supporting cast. None of Peter's high school friends kept in tough making his adult life surprisingly lonely feeling compared to the entourage he traveled with in high school. Keeping it light probably helped focus the plot but it also kinda made his life feel strangely empty.

You are the Spider-man of the anime community Geoff. I think you're getting a lot better with the presentation of the material you cover along with the nuance of your character. A few faults I have with your videos lately (schedule not being one of them) is that; while you are being more clear with your opinions and observations, the videos themselves have slowly become the normative. Some people have disregarded your reviews, video essays, and left a rather jaded perception on me that isn't going to change anytime soon. I still look at you as a beacon of hope for the anime community as you seem to be the most level-headed amongst the cynicism which I appreciate to no end. While it is unrealistic to think that you can help alleviate some of the more toxicity to be found, I can at least think that, you're doing the best you can while resuming this rather struggling turn of events of the world changing, ever so slowly. I probably won't ever know if you saw this given the timezones and hours needed for sleep, but, thank you for continuing your career on KZbin. Ya know what I love about this game? the attention to detail. Like in the feast center, There is a woman that you help early in the game and as Spidey you tell her about the fest center, later she tells Peter, not to work himself too hard. If you go into one of the rooms there is a folder where Peter talks about how their helping people with their personal problems, there's another where he name drops flash Thompson. One other little thing i love about the feast center is there is a couple of people that are constantly playing chess and exchanging quips with each other and they have their own little backstory if you interact with them over the course of the story. heck if you just walk up to people they will show concern for Pete and Pete will show his concern for them. The whole area could be just nice window dressing a nice little hub where you meet up with aunt May and Miles, but you can actually interact with the world a fair bit there. It's the same for otto's lab and the other minor places you go to that you may see once in the story, there is so much material that fleshes out the world and its characters. There were so many times where I avoided doing things I thought might trigger the story because I wanted to know more about the world and its characters.

A nice touch I liked with the Octavius segments is how you are lulled into a routine with the pipe minigames for most of them. Do this, succeed, see more results in the cutscenes. But then you come to the last one and things do NOT go the way you expect them. It catches you off guard and effectively means that not only is Peter Parker partially responsible for Octavius becoming Doctor Octopus, the player is as well.
