I haven't touched anything else since installing Cosmic on Fedora. You can actually install Cosmic from the Fedora Everything ISO and have a really minimal system.

I had an issue with Cosmic mishandling resume from suspend. Turns out the maintainer of the Fedora packages is actually in the Pop_OS discord and responded saying that that was a known issue and actually already fixed. It was cool to see just how ontop of everything that maintainer is.

Great guide on installing Cosmic on Fedora 41! I love how smooth it runs and the step-by-step instructions made it easy to follow. Excited to see where this goes!

Really glad to see this covered. I've heard great things about Cosmic with so many people loving it. For me, I'm new to Linux & am trying to move to it, before Oct 2025 with Win10. Subbing.

If not 42 I'm certain Cosmic will make it into a Fedora spin by 43. Depends on when in the dev cycle stable Cosmic drops.

sudo !! to rerun last command with sudo. save your self the grief. Been running cosmic since alpha 1, and it's been awesome seeing it come a long. I would probably wait until fedora 43 before creating the fedora spin. Should give it ample time to get into beta, as there's still a lot of work left.

Fedora is getting good traction with applets as well. There is even a cosmic-clipboard applet that's packaged in a copr.
@gljames2417 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing that. I had no idea!
@TubeF0x17 күн бұрын
Just to add, distro-specific packaging shouldn't be necessary for most applets in the future, since flatpak will be the primary way of applet distribution (with a section in COSMIC Store).

It seems a bit early to make an official fedora cosmic spin. Not that I am not also hyped for cosmic, but we have no idea yet, how popular it is going to be when it is ready. And then consider how long it took for plasma to become an official spin of fedora.

is it just me or does Cosmic look really bad? Im on Fedora KDE, but after installing Cosmic it looks grainy and pixelated. Also a few stutters here and there. It uses X11, maybe thats the issue? Dunno man, this needs polish. Till then I'll be sticking with KDE Plasma.

EVERYTHING looks bad once you've reached the point where you're using KDE as a daily driver
@leeroyjenkins016 күн бұрын
It doesn't use x11, why would you think that? I don't think it looks bad but I daily drive it and it's far from flawless. - plenty of issues with input registration - windows clipping through one another as if they have the same depth - the rendering completely freezing a handful of times - no fixed number of workspaces option so if you close your terminal on workspace 2 and move to another workspace everything from workspace 3 onwards is moved left to "fill the void" - if you hide the top bar, full screen a window, and then go to the top bar it will cover the handle bar of the window so if you go too far up you can't move the window... - sometimes on some systems some entire sections of settings are completely empty. For example on the system running in front of me I can't manage users from the settings (doesn't matter but sucks..) - ... And it doesn't have things like built-in remote desktop and other facilities gnome/KDE offer. I don't think it looks bad though, and I like that they're building around workspaces and for the most part doing it right for my use cases. The issues are not common or severe enough to force me back to gnome but I certainly would not recommend using it yet. For me, conceptually, it's a nice middle ground between gnome being too simple out of the box (missing common options hidden in cli settings/gnome tweaks), and plasma having a bit too much going on where you can stray far from a standard set up quickly (I like standard, because it's stable and easy to set up again on multiple computers)

Is this applicable to Aurora Universal Blue?
@awdsqe12317 күн бұрын
It's probably better to make a new ublue image instead of layering from another. Though, it should be possible, though I don't think you can use the dnf groups in rpm-ostree. Personally I'm waiting for a official cosmic ublue image.
@WildWestDesigns17 күн бұрын
I'm just sticking with KDE and Xorg for right now. There is functionality (color profiles and working with devices like the Cintiq) that I need to have working and working out of the box, it just isn't there with Wayland (there is some, but nowhere near the level of Xorg) and given the alpha status of Cosmic, even basic support isn't there, especially for the Cintiq. I don't know if that would be fixed or not, even with the systems that have better support as it appears to have low priority (and given wayland is not a young project, doesn't fill me with optimism about it)
@leonbishop740417 күн бұрын
why does it look so much like gnome 🤔
@Klaymore-QT17 күн бұрын
Because the previous Cosmic was just gnome with extensions and System76/PopOS users are used to gnome. The default is very safe for old PopOS users to be familiar with but they give you everything in the settings to get rid of the dock in favor of a panel like Plasma or other configurations.
