Coretemp has been pretty accurate for me for year. Decent case. The only or main thing I dislike about it is there is no ceiling ventilation and that the PSU is at the top like older style cases. Ceiling ventilation can easily make a 10 C positive difference towards better temps. Not sure if you need to repaste or not. If you haven't tried it yet, perhaps that is in order..just MAKE SURE. If you're going to use isopropyl alcohol that you use it that is as close to 100% as possible.

It usually wont effect performance if it's a "lil too much", but some high end thermal paste is conductive so if you see it leaking off the sides clean it up and try again asap.

Wouldn't applying just a pea size thermal paste on the center of the heat spreader or die be efficient enough? Underneath it, it's just a tiny relfected silicon chip. As long as you got a thin layer of paste on top, it doesn't matter if the paste doesn't make good contact with the far corners, does it?
@petkopeet

Hey guys i think i have done everything wrong with applying paste. First i think i put toomuch, because i put like 2 lines on cpu, and 2 lines on cooler then smearing it evenly with plastic card. I assembled the cooler to the cpu like 2 times to check how it looks. I think the excess of the paste went out from the sides of aasemblement :). But my idle temps on 4690k stock 3.5ghz are +/- 27C. Should i bother to do it correctly, or leavy it alone. Paste i used was arctic silver with thermalright macho rev b.

+LINKINPARK4EVER1996 *Some* thermal pastes are conductive, you have to be VERY careful with those. If you don't have experience with thermal paste, just avoid it. A lot of thermal pastes nowadays aren't electrically conductive and will be nicer to you if you mess up. Either way, be careful and don't rub thermal paste all over your motherboard.

For cleaning old thermal paste from CPU IHS and heatsink plate I always used vodka and it never failed. I even rescued i7 4770K with thermal paste on contact pads, now it works for year stable even under OCCT tests :) However what suprises me, that you clean CPU, while it is still in socket and taking risk of bending pins in socket

I use little cloths designed for rubbing/cleaning the skin before giving a shot, found at pharmacies, it works well. It is creepy to put the paste on for the first time, but if you take your time and do enough research, as anything else with builds it's not really difficult.

I would not use toilet paper, but coffee filters make a great substitute if you don't have a lint free cloth. Also I would not recommend touching the top of the cpu or the bottom of the heatsink after you have cleaned it. The oils from you fingers can transfer and cause heat spots.

IC Diamond is very thick, but still easy to spread. It's actually quite a bit harder than other compounds that it has a polishing effect on heatspreaders and heatsink bases. Something to consider if you ever think you might need a replacement CPU under warranty. Overall it's my favorite compound too as its given me up to 1C better temps than MX-4, which is also good. Stay away from the liquid metal products...

Also IF you're going to use Isopropyl Alcohol. TRY to get it in as high percent as possible. The closer to 100% the more " pure" it is. Thus less chance of leaving any mixed residual/harmful things on the cpu to get mixed in with the new application of thermal paste.

if it is none conductive , not really , because the pressure will get-rid of the extra paste , but it will leak to the mobo , so if it is conductive , you are in trouble, but even though most mobos have a layer of wax to lower the impact of humidity

I usually take the CPU out aswell and clean the sides and edges of the IHS (Integrated Heat Spreader, the gray plate thing that contacts the bottom of the cooler you are using), not using alcohol and just wiping it of with a bit of toilet paper works fine, though I do use alcohol to clean the cpu and cooler if I happen to have any. Last but not least, using conductive thermal paste is fine as long as you dont get it on any electrical components, usually this means the CPU has to have an IHS, all Intel desktop CPU's have them from the Pentium 4 and up, notebooks can be a exception and I've no idea about AMD CPU's as I've had maybe 2 AMD CPU's in the past 10 years.

1. Which gen? Sandy bridge or Ivy? 2. What case is it installed in? 3. Stock fans in the case that came with it? 4. Room ambient temperature? Beyond that, it does seem alittle high for idle. From what I've researched and see from my friend's 3470 ivy bridge it really shouldn't idle higher than 36 to 38c at 71 degrees F room ambient temp with a decent case stock fans stock included intel cpu hsf. My 1090t amd cpu maxes at 56c with Handbrake full load on all 6 cores. Zalman 9500a 40% speed

When I got my first aftermarket cooler, I never used anything but stock that had already had the paste applied. Now I had to apply for myself thermal paste. So what did I do? I used it ALL. I dreamt of overclocking with my new cooler but stock clock didn't even happen because Intel SpeedStep kept it very low because even that made it idle at 99C. I couldn't fix it for far too long (by the time I had gotten new paste, because like I said I used ALL of it). A pea-size gives me 45C idle, 61C load.

My problem with IC Diamond is, I bought a grip ton of it because I take my computer apart often. It is so much thicker and unspreadable than silver, I just went back to silver. I could not get the diamond to spread. I tried by hand first, and it wouldn't move. I then tried the pressure method and I got terrible temps. It would just not move at all. I have an H80 BTW.

only on the last stage, coffee filters dont leave anything but they also cannot wipe as well as something like toilet paper. i recommend toilet paper+alcohol for the first 2 passes. then use alcohol+coffee filter. and then use just plain coffee filter.
