Installing A Hand Rail on our RV. The Stromberg Carlson Lend a Hand Folding Rail.

Today I am installing a Stromberg Carlson Lend-a-Hand folding rail on our 2018 Coleman 202RD. We are installing this rail to allow a safer entry and exit from our trailer than using the OE handle that was install on the trailer.

Diy RV and Home I installed my new handle after watching your video. I’ve had it in the garage for awhile, then lost the screws I needed to install. Recently ordered replacement hardware and install was easy as pie.

Is there one that folds over the door

Greg can you actually put one handle on each side of the door? I broke my femur and my back, so I was looking to add one to each side in order to give me security when going in and out of the trailer.

There is no way that I know of to attach to the door side because the door is in the way.

@@DiyRVandHome You may be able to have a fabricator make a custom handle with the similar profile to attach with an offset to the inside of the door. this will give you a right hand handle to help you

Thanks for sharing but I have a worry. If a prankster flips your hand-rail to the right after you are inside and your door is closed, how are you getting out, when the hand-rail needs to be raised, to unlock before flipping out? I'd prefer if the product can be locked by you, before you retire for the night.

What happens if the button screw on top comes out or won't go back down for some reason. We just put this handle in about a month ago and we use it a lot but today I noticed that long button on top of the black casing wanting to come out when I raised the handle to move it to the other side. Don't know why this is happening. Thanks.

If you are referring to the bolt that the handle pivots on then there could be some dirt or something keeping it from moving property. Try to spray some silicone spray on it and work it up and down. See if that helps. I would not use wd-40 as it will attract dirt.

Take the handle off and look inside the plastic case. In there you will see the the pin bolt, a spring and a keeper on the end. The keeper as I call it may have slipped down to far and needs to be forced up a small tad up the shift. Be very careful not to much maybe 1/8 inch at a time and keep testing it.

The screws that come with this are far too long and instructions state to go all the way through with bolts and washers….that’s not happening. What screws did you use once you drilled an inch depth with the 1/8? Thanks!

I used 1 1/2" screws, that way i knew.i wouldn't go all the way thru

Diy RV and Home ok thanks. I’m asking because I know some earlier models of the 202rd did and I’m wondering if the newer ones like ours still have the wiring up in the ceiling

@@GNogueira83I wish there was an easy way to answer that question for you. We have a TV DVD player and I attached a hanger bracket to the wall in the bedroom and use the outlet on the wall to power the TV when we want to watch a video in bed. Other than that see have the tv hanging in the back next to the entertainment center.

This product is unsafe as purchased due to the minimal amount of safe grip area about 10 inches. To correct this I sprayed on Rust-Oleum LEAKSEAL which gives you a rubbery type grip on all slippery metal surfaces. Now much safer grip on all areas.
