Installing extra LED's via the dome light in 2012 Scion iQ

Because of the poor lighting provided by the Scion iQ's dome light I decided to install some extra lights that are wired directly to the existing dome light wiring. Quick job. $15 and some basic tools. Product link below!

Nice a'd tidy but one word of advise here: whenever you're working on electrics or (near) an airbag, always disconnect the negative terminal of your battery so your car won't have any power. You couldn't get electrocuted or cause any shorts and the airbag couldn't explode

Great job! I got my iQ new in 2013 and always slammed the pathetic interior lighting on the Toyota surveys. On mine, I’ll run two to the trunk and use t-taps to splice the wires together.

Yeah the stock light is pretty much useless. I need to invest in a few more connectors as well, so I don't have to solder and tape everything ;)

Well I tried it and have all four connected and dome light works but nothing to all four lights...got black on black and white on white spliced (I assume on the lights the white with stripe is black)

@@rickboucher6061 check your LED strip connector polarity. I play around with a lot of them and it's not always correct. The tape itself will have + and - onto, but always test them using a little 9v battery. If the polarity is reversed, they won't light up.

Hey I’d love to do this on my 2012. I’ve never done interior body work. What’s the best way to run that wire through the roof? Do you just attach it to a stick and push? Any tips are welcome

Hi, I have a iq 2009 1l. I'm trying to swap to leather seats from another iq being broken down. Will the seats fit or different models and different years have some changes and it wouldn't work?

Great vid..question:..does the lights only work when opening the door or do they also work when u turn the original dome light from on/off/door???

You can install a switch on the red line of the LEDs

Basically when he tapped the wires into the black and white, he bypassed the control unit. Those two wires are automatically powered on when the door are opens, so that's why it works for him doing so. If you want it to work with the original dome light from on/off door you need to plug it after the control unit so you have access to it. The control unit in that seems to be the green board were the little red and white wires comes from. There's actually a guy that's done it with his head light.
