I started watching your channel back in February and I don't comment on any of the channels I'm subscribed to, but I wanted to express how incredibly uplifting it is to see how far you've come, Brady. You've slogged through some incredibly hard work, learning to do all the things and do them well, in often trying circumstances; weather, a tricky site, goats etc., as well as tackling a new language. Watching this episode and seeing you engage your workmates with simple kindnesses like coffee and pastries, conversing with laconic ease has me filled with such pride for you. You've come such a long way in 8 months, I've watched you grow in confidence and ability, you're an inspiration! You both are, the support and comfort your wife has always brought you is quite a thing to behold. It's a very pleasant interlude from the seeming all pervading gloominess in the world right now. Bravo!

Absolutely fascinating. As a US viewer, who has done a LITTLE bit of wiring, this is over the top, 5km of wires? And so much work! Yet, if you ever have a problem it is going to be ONE circuit only. Lots of work now vs DECADES (or more) of reliability and maintainability. This mentality may be why Inhabited buildings in Europe can be hundreds of years old.

I also love watching the scope and detail that you and your crew are putting into your home. How magnificent! As for your goat problem, it is a simple fix. Get metal gates to tie across your door openings. Tying and untying those each evening and morning, though problematic, is way better than walking in and finding your hard work destroyed. Just the same way that big cities here in the US must put lockable doors on building sites to protect against squatters and thieves, you must protect against country rogues( i.e.goats). Though I do think your problem is cuter!

If you daisy-chain all plug outlets from the same.cable you can overheat that cable because the excess of power load.when you use all outlets at the same time and if there's a problem in the main line of the plug in US you loose all plugs but in UE we only loose that plug. Is more expeensive but safer, specially in wood structures (that's why we use metal pieces to supporting drywall)

My German father-in-law built his house in the late 60's and years later retired as senior electrical engineer on a nuclear power plant. But his house switch board was a work of art. Every single power point in the building had a fuse on this board. If ANYTHING shorted out, only that point was out of commission and he knew exactly where that fuse was. It looks like a lot more work to set up, but the reward down the line is worth it!

Hi Brady. The reason why they have to have those wires in the plastic conduit and each circuit in individual ones is because they use single insulated wiring. The conduit acts as mechanical outer insulation for safety. It probably works out cheaper in the long run.
@AdamofCA.2 ай бұрын
very informative, Frank. Thank you.
@Ragnar85042 ай бұрын
It's definitely more flexible and easier to repair if something goes wrong. Cost of labour and materials is higher than for cables that go straight into the walls.
@angelomasciantonio2 ай бұрын
The single insulated wiring in metal conduits is also used in commercial/institutional projects in NA. Still think they hook up several "general" outlets in series even with that system, but it does pose an issue in future if a fuse breaks and shuts down a whole series of outlets.

Italy's way of doing thing makes so much more sense to me..... Number one they have direct current as opposed to alternating current that we have here in the US.... So having dedicated lines for each outlet makes a lot more sense. Also as I have worked and recently retired from a major electric utility I can tell you that the way that we do our electricity as far as our electricians here in the US is ludicrous. Do you know how many brand new homes have to hire a new electrician to do an electrical upgrade just to that they can have the electric they need to run things in their kitchen? And why because things were Daisy chained exactly as you described in your video that should never ever be done every single room should have their own dedicated line also a new trend here in the US is not to install a main in the breaker box the only main is outside.... And is the main that is at your meter. Brand new homes built between 2000 and 2020 we're all done this way in our area,... Somehow they got away with it now it's not being allowed anymore because they got caught but still you have thousands and thousands of thousands of homes that have been built over those 20 years that do not have a main breaker inside.... It's almost like the US is allowing these builders to get away with such cheap electrical work that you are guaranteed to have to hire an electrician to completely rewire your home afterwards if you want it done properly..... So I would say that Italy has the right state of mind get it done right the first time
@enricofromm49942 ай бұрын
The electrical systems of the house are in single-phase alternating current at 230V and 50 Hz. In the video you often see three cables of different colors passing at the same time. They are blue, brown and a two-tone green/yellow wire. The brown cable is the phase (line), the blue cable is the neutral (neutral), the green/yellow cable is the earth (ground).

the reason you can run outlets in America in series vs Italy is because our standard outlets are 120v but in Europe they typically run 240v. you don't run a 240v circuit in series in America either.

Ty for sharing. The wiring is very different from anything I have seen. Goats again! You definitely need an electric goat fence. Or, you could fire up the barbecue pit.

Knowing this family a bit now and their love for animals, I think they will end up buying those goats and make a beautiful house and garden for them. ❤❤

Thank you for sharing your renovation; it’s incredible what you have achieved. Your attention to detail is impressive and I look forward to your weekly updates. We have a family home in Italy so have some understanding of the strict rules and legislation which is tightly enforced. Huge thanks again ❤

In Germany you don’t have to have a line of wire per outlet. I made a ringline in every room and placed the outlets along this ringline. I also divided the lines for light and outlets even on a different fuse. So when the fuse of the outlets goes I still have light. When the fuse of the light goes I still can plug in a light in one of the outlets.

Germans are always ahead in so many areas! 👍 I will look up what you describe, maybe it is possible to implement in other countries as well?!

Still amazed at the process! It's going beautifully and I can't wait to see the next episode. I'm finding as an engineer the wiring methods very interesting. Here in the U.S. the wiring would be in conduit, PVC or metal, Romex, or BX cable, depending on codes, environmental conditions, etc.

The wires are different colours , but TRUST ME - also label each one as you go ….. this advice comes from bitter experience ! Saves so much time and heartache in future.
@tonyanddeb10122 ай бұрын
The different colours are for earth (ground in US?) live and neutral. They'll route back to the consumer unit where they'll be grouped and labelled. They'll be 2.5mm core for the power sockets and heavy draw items like boilers etc. and 1.5mm cores for the 10A lighting circuit. All the outer sheath colours will be one of the same three though.

I love how you converse in Italian with the crew. I am impressed with your Italian, and yes, the house is coming together and looks great. See you next week!

Love the views. It’s interesting to see that the same techniques used in Italy are what is done here in Paraguay. Two of my son in laws have built their own homes just this way with the electricity 😊
