@Daniel_BatalАй бұрын
Yeah, definitely. You could just manually mask out the PIP portion and replace the main image. You could do that in Fusion with a polygon or Bspline mask or in the Color Page with a power window and and alpha (transparent) output. This video shows it with an image but the same process will work. You don't need to hand draw the mask, using a square power window might work---> kzbin.info8f9o7-JEmMs?si=2At-kYdmon2Vq15I

Can you do another tutorial showing the best Magic Mask techniques when more than one person is in the shot. Also when there are additional foreground objects in the footage, such as a desk or multiple non human “props’ or even animals such as a dog in the footage. Situations where Magic Mask can be used beyond one human. I realize Magic Mask has its limitations, however I would like to see you push it to the limits. …Rowby.

Magic mask is unreliable in the colour page if you alter any part of the image back in the edit page. The mask breaks down. It seems best to use it in fusion. The other aspect is you really need strong contrasting and bright colours for magic mask to work well with a moving image. I have found it doesn't work so well in mid to low lit scenes.
@Daniel_Batal6 ай бұрын
Yeah, I explained a lot of that in the video. I haven’t had the Edit Page issue you’re referring to. I wonder if it’s a system resource issue?
@jer30066 ай бұрын
@@Daniel_Batal No, it is not a system resource problem and I have also commented to some of your videos about this issue. If you take a color page Magic Mask back to the Edit page, then decide to use the Inspector to Transform-adjust anything in that clip, the mask will often just disappear. Then you have to go back to the Color page and recreate it. OTOH, if you create the Magic Mask on the Fusion page and return to the Edit page, further Transform adjustments do not delete the mask. When it first happened to me, it was more than annoying, so I searched on the issue, and found YT content creators who have discussed it.
@NealWiser6 ай бұрын
@@jer3006I didn’t see this comment until I added mine above (see “WARNING”). My use of MagicMask in Fusion doesn’t seem to make a difference. Sometimes, it seems that if I touch the clip for any reason in Edit, it loses the mask.

You are a FANTASTIC teacher. Really well done. But I am just curious what can be done with a video such as yourself in this video. You have curly hair with a background of a similar color. Do you think you could make a decent mask of yourself and make it so that the background would be replaced properly in area where we can see "through" your hair? If so, that would be a KILLER mask. Thanks.
@Daniel_Batal6 ай бұрын
That’s a great question. I typically will put myself in front of a green screen or a color that’s more easily keyed out just because of the curls in my hair and the amount of background that can potentially show through. I thought you were going to point out how out of focus my camera was on this video! 😅 For some reason, my auto focus decided to choose my hands as a fixed point and I didn’t notice it until I was just about ready to edit.

You control the track assignments. Upload into your media pool, create tracks by right clicking on an existing track control region and choosing “Add Track”, then decide what goes into each. Another easy starting point is when you created your first track and have one piece of footage in it, left click on that video clip in your timeline and drag upwards. It’ll move it into a new track and leave an open track below it. Once you have a few tracks going, right clicking in the far left control section of each track will allow you to add tracks above and below.

Hi Daniel. I switched to DaVinci, i rly like it, but there are one thing what is make me crazy, maybe because I'm not experinced enough. When I'm trying to move clips on all tracks on timeline with "swap clips"(ctrl+shift+,) method, clips on all tracks (except track 1) are overwriting them selfs. To avoid this this I need to link all of them, split them and only after that I can move them with "swap clips" method. Is there any way to move clips on different tracks without doing all of this steps?
@Daniel_Batal6 ай бұрын
Couple of ways. One of the easiest is clicking the “lock all tracks” option just under the preview window then just unlocking the track you want to work with. The reason some functionality affects more than one track is that the Auto Track Selector for each track is usually on by default. You can turn those off o the left side of each track

Yes, but it often happens when moving the clip on the timeline that the mask is lost. If you have not previously saved the clip with "Render in Place". Very resource hungry! Very nerve-wracking with longer clips. And Magic Mask works better and more accurately in the Fusion Page.

any type of procedural masking like this should be baked down when youre happy with it if youre still planning on doing timeline editing. just render it with an alpha channel and bring it back into the timeline

My magic mask continues to undo its tracking eventually only showing one frame masked. Usually, this happens when I go back to the edit tab for a bit and eventually, the magic mask effect and data disappear. I don't know if this is a bug or a user error on my part. Any feedback? Thanks!

That may be a glitch in the software because you’re not the first person who has said the magic mask doesn’t seem to hold in certain circumstances when switching pages. @Daniel_Batal5 ай бұрын
A couple of things, If you’re using the Free version, it does not support GPU acceleration. Also, You’re using an incredibly underpowered GPU for running Resolve. The 1660 Super is built for gaming, not so much editing. Use these recommended (not minimum) system specs-> motionarray.com/learn/davinci-resolve/davinci-resolve-system-requirements/

That’s a solid system. The 3060 might come up a bit short. I run a 4090 and even then, with a heavy load 4K project I find some issues with version 19. Typically it ends of being a resource demand issue with tracking masks because you’re asking the software to do a lot and Resolve is a resource hog, for sure. Have you tried rolling your project settings back just for edit and then back up for export? Also, have you tried keeping your playback display resolution at “half” instead of “full”?
