Autism From The Inside

The full video premieres tomorrow at 8:30am Melbourne!
-----------------------------------------------
👋Welcome to Autism From The Inside!!!
If you're autistic or think you or someone you love might be on the autism spectrum, this channel is for you!
I'm Paul Micallef, and I discovered my own autism at age 30.
Yes, I know, I don't look autistic. That's exactly why I started this channel in the first place because if I didn't show you, you would never know.
Autism affects many (if not all!) aspects of our lives, so on this channel, I want to show you what Autism looks like in real people and give you some insight into what's happening for us on the inside. We'll break down myths and misconceptions, discuss how to embrace autism and live well, and share what it's like to be an autistic person.
Join me as I share what I've found along my journey, so you don't have to learn it the hard way.
Make sure to subscribe so you won’t miss my new video every Friday and some bonus content thrown in mid-week too.

I haven't seen the full video yet but I wanted to add in here that rest counts as work. Your body is busy trying to repair, even if you don't feel exhausted. Some people don't decide to rest "because I should be working." So I added the reminder because rest counts as removing the barriers to doing more later.

This. And during rest our brains are also getting on with making connections - so that later our ideas come out, or become more fully formed.

@@JaneAustenAteMyCat I do too - I had to not just learn to rest, but learn how to rest.

That's true for me, after being productive I get the feeling that "I deserve to rest", and don't feel anxious because I give myself time, so resting is more successful.

Had to watch this 3 times, before I realized you weren’t actually talking about backpacks. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Tis true, I take things literally.

You are a natural born teacher. Thank you so much for sharing this wise advice and delivering it in a way that autistic people like myself can visualise what you are explaining. I think in pictures like a lot of us on the spectrum do, and your presentation of this invaluable advice will now be etched onto my mind’s eye for all time! Thank you very much as I have been really struggling with Burnout caring full time for my 85 year old mum who is fighting Blood Cancer. You are a legend my friend! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

This is a different way of saying 'work smarter, not harder', but you've expressed it so relatably. I recently decided to mask less (among a whole host of other techniques) and I'm happier and achieving things I've not been able to achieve for *decades*

😮 thats exactly it and I've been struggling for years to break into this do less to do more idea for years. Im getting better at it but its slow. This a powerful part of healing and reaching a better work life balance that works for our brains and our physical systems 😊🤗

Great advice! Now, if I could only figure out what he means by "not masking"... (/s) (kinda)

The "system " of Society doesn't accept us, and it's getting worse. Mental health assistance in this country is virtually non existent. Hard to feel anything but hopeless

True. On an interesting (not quite related) note. They say our skeleton can carry double our weight. Then I thought about it. I only weighed 145 lbs until I was 39. Then at 40 I gained weight. So the 35 lbs I’ve put on in my opinion counts towards that doubling. So maybe I can’t carry as much as I think.

Its not a spectrum. Ur autosticÞjere is no such thomg as highly aitidtic.iys a social exeriment for ritalin. Yrs there are autistic people disabled like my brother was. The rest is a social experiment (overthinkimg, anxoety etc). You're autisticor not. Im sick of tjhis ridiculous rxperiment to gove out ritalin. Maybe its trauma? Anxiety? Im so sad for this social expriment.

And if ur on the "spectrum" come on now. That just means youre weird n awkward. Autism is autism. Stop encouraging drugs to children.

1) Please type clearly. 2) It is a spectrum. 3) This is no social experiment. 4) Your ableism is bad and you should feel bad.
