That’s nice to watch , there’s a few new things out now like flexible rad roller arms with rubber sleeve , as an apprentice in early 80s , I served my time for a chap one man band , he taught me all his little tricks from the 50s , we used to have a box with copper pipes filled with sand as you used the 2p we had lengths of weighted pipe soldered shut each end , good to watch that , 👍👍👍

Hi Gary nice to hear from you. I was apprenticed to a small firm usually two lads one foreman and the boss ran around quoting, fetching materials etc Pay was £25 quid a week! It was all very traditional in the way things were done! No roller poles, we had to set up trestles and battens to paint rooms in short shifts by moving the whole lot! Fridays was half day when us lads had to burn out the metal paint kettles, sand them and give them a coat of knotting ready for the next week! 😊

@@Instone09ine ha how strange you’ve said that , lads who works for me in there 30s , I was just telling them what you’ve just said !! , we have a lot of plastic kettles now ! but a few in old style we burn out , now we zinsser then which is shellack only coloured, , I was talking about the old shellack bottles !! The pewter ones , like a little jug with Handle and brush in the lid , times change can’t get anything thing like it now a days , 👍👍👍 Regards Gary

No it wasn't just cheap paper.
@pjcamp1on4 жыл бұрын
did you leave the paper 5mins or more for the paste to soak into the paper? not leaving the paper to soak up the paste can cause shrink back and joints opening up.
@DB-kv5mb4 жыл бұрын
When papering you should use a purdy 6.5 rad roller and sleeve , paste one wall then paste approx. 4 lengths of wallpaper, then hang the 1st length and so on , so they are all “soaked “ with paste . Also use border/overlap adhesive on every single joint and use a seem roller on all joints. If you don’t paste the wall first it is to dry, also you can move the wallpaper about whilst it’s on the wall. Try this method and see

Hi Claire im using a packet mix adhesive here for fresco paper, when i hang patterns i use a ready mix paste and rather than put too much on the paper try pasting the wall also ie half on the wall, half on the paper is a good way to apply!

How do you remove paper from behind a fixed rad, please?
@Instone09ine5 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter strip as far as you can all around the rad , try to leave the paper loose ie not pull it away , cover the floor with towells to protect below the rad, mix warm water with lots of washing up liqiud and let the frothy mixture dribble down onto any remaining paper, repeat until your sure it's all well soaked. I then use an old long bladed wood saw to then go behind and down the rad scratching the surface with the saws jagged teeth, repeat the soaking process until all the paper gives way pushing with the saws top edge and teeth, this works for me. Good luck😉
