I am a lecturer in Marketing and have always been impressed by consumers' reactions on the high end brands marketing. Their bags no matter how beautiful are literally just a product. It might help us to overcome our insecurities, make us happy or feel accomplished. But in the end, bags are just bags and if the way in getting them hurts us, then the products have failed to fulfil their purpose.

The thing that got me was... she’s gotten bags. Quota bags. And she resold them on eBay. If I was an SA looking to give someone a very limited bag that I really thought they would appreciate, I wouldn’t give it to someone who talks about reselling their quota bags on their social media channels. It seems like she does a hard press to get a bag then once she gets it she loses interest and sells it... and then on to the next obsession over a new bag. All the (seemingly unintentional) emotional manipulation aside, I can’t imagine an SA wanting to work with someone who is constantly obsessing over the next quota bag. That seems exhausting. Would be much more fun to work with a client who loves the brand, appreciates the bag, and enjoys it without reselling or feeling compelled to hunt for a new one.

Every time I was ready for a bag I was presented a bag at which time I purchased the bag. Yes it nice to get what you love however its not the end of your life if you don't get it. I also I have a dear friend that worked at Hermes and yes they have the bag in the back they just dont give it to you .. it is a game and one I dont want to play.. not interested

She mentioned in 5 years she had to deal with post partum depression twice and had to deal with cancer. I believe the girl just wanted something to just go well and smooth, and the bag just became the object of all that fristration. Let's not forget, they didn't even get the girl a Rodeo.

One time when I was in my 20's I cried over a watch and caught a glimpse of myself in the silver of my mirror mid cry....oh god did I learn my lesson, I immediately felt pathetic, but IT HAPPENS!! The same way ppl use food for comfort, or sex or addictions, its an addiction like any other and can be very emotionally significant if you give it that power. I can say I actually understand. But yeah she needs major therapy she could be substituting a much deeper seeded psychological/ emotional problem with luxury bags

This was the very best response hands down!!! My thoughts exactly!! I’ve heard of so many people walking out of the store with No pay history with Birkin and Kelly!! It’s the connection! The chemistry! Don’t pay thousands of dollars in hope to get a bag!!! It’s crazy!!! Limited bags , with thousands of people wanting the same bag. Please leave the desperate attitude in the car before entering the store. 🙂 Great video! Very thought provoking! Raw and honest! I love it!!!

I think it's crazy to pay thousands of dollars on a bag, period. Thankfully, I have too much self-respect to beg a company to take my money. "Connection" should not matter, only your little plastic card that pays for it should. I get that supply is limited, fine, but the wait list should be first come, first serve -- no favorites.

I think its wonderful of you to be so kind to someone hurt so deeply. Watching the Purseonfleek video is like seeing someone have a nervous breakdown in real time. I don’t know Mel. I saw her video. It’s too much. I feel her emails were a little demanding, although she used a polite vocabulary. She drove her SA crazy. If I were receiving those emails I would be: Delete. And I buy things at Hermès and I want neither a Birkin nor a Kelly.

I am the one that purchases Hermès and have no hope, want or need to get a Birkin. I just love the color orange and that has been my history start with Hermès. My bag offer came 2 years into my relationship with my SA, and it was a bag I’d never directly *asked* for… my birkin 40 deep blue palladium in Togo was the result of my SA and I talking countless times (while I shopped other items) about the products of the brand and my preferences in leather and materials etc! The offer was a surprise and more than anything else a magical and organic event based on a mutual understanding !!! Hermes is such an exciting brand that once one stops being soo shallow about the status symbol of it all, the time flies and the offer comes 🧡🥺

Hermes has issues with her reselling of dust bags, boxes ,shopping bags from their store ( people making fake bags buy empty Packaging) & also she sells " DUPES" of Chanel and Louis Vuitton bags.😬 She has also sold every bag she is got from the store.

The way she annoys the sales with her emails and lame stories are the reasons she didn’t get the desired bags. Just cut the BS, make small purchases from the store time to time, show up to their stores with the Hermès handbags you already have, and go there punctually with the cash when the bags are ready. If you are tired of waiting, go buy a gold Rolex and wear it to the store, it tells the sales you don’t care and money is not the issue.

You are SO correct! She sent way too many emails to this person with too much detail about her life. These people are there in the store to help you make purchases and not to be your personal shrink. They are not going to feel sorry for you and save you the bag of your dreams. You are so right that going into a store once a month or so just to see what they have and to try on new bags is going to get you so much farther with an SA. Hermès or any other company doesn’t make decisions based on how much you spend. After all their main purpose is to make money.

This was so insightful. I'm also into/have a luxury bag collection, but I just buy what I like and it's not a big, emotional deal for me (also prefer more under-the-radar/subtle designs/brands, like "old" Bottega or Loewe). I much more prefer to/am way more serious about investing/spending my "play money" (after bills and saving) into fine jewelry - I totally relate in that aspect. I have many jewelry brand SAs that I have a fantastic relationship with, who I see regularly and we chat about our love of jewelry in general but also their lives and mine. Many of them have actively helped me seek out pieces and/or held rare/highly coveted pieces for me, even beyond what is normally allowed because I couldn't come in (I travel for work). I watched her vid a few weeks ago and felt so bad for her too, but I agree: it absolutely is about relationships, life isn't fair, and in the end, it's just stuff (whether it's a bag, shoes, or diamonds). Cheers to people and moments! 🥂

I just watched the other video. She came off as pushy, demanding and insisting...which led to her being classless. When I was 27 I walked into Hermes in Paris. I asked for a purse in a specific color. The sales associate trotted up and came down with it. I admired the purse and declined the offer. But, the reality is I was offered the exact purse I had requested and at that point I had never purchased items from that location. I might add I am fluent in French so maybe that influenced the SA or she simply saw I was going to appreciate the item. I might add at that point I had no idea the struggle to get a bag was so real. Your evaluation is spot on.

Spot on. I think with everyone going on in her life, she just got carried away with the emotion of it all. She wasn't able to judge how to communicate, and started oversharing her personal life to someone who wasn't a friend and was juggling multiple clients waiting to procure a bag. I can imagine the way things are post multiple lockdowns that stocks are low, and certain stores and types of customers will be prioritised.

Margarita this video is a perfect example of why I enjoy your chanel so much. Your videos are a rare combination of luxury appreciation and groundedness, confidence and compassion, and of course humor. You appreciate fashion but don't inflate its importance, and speak honestly and genuinely about your perspective without judging others. (Also let's be honest, you and your mom eating caviar and drinking champagne is the best mood ever.) Sometimes these types of videos leave one feeling inadequate, or even uncomfortable because the person seems almost compulsively out of touch, but your videos make me feel happy that there are others out there that appreciate nice things without arrogance or unhealthy fixation. You are a sage, unapologetically-feminine feminist with a Birkin. Thank you!

I totally agree with you on all points! I have an SA I work with. I have to travel 5 hours to get to the boutique. I do email her about something I want (a ready to wear item being the latest) I might follow up with a call. Then after that I don’t bother her. They do have other customers and they work really hard. She has always tried to get me what I asked for…I don’t bug her. I did walk into a different boutique in a different place (on vacation) and just for the heck of it straight up asked for a Birkin…and got it. They hadn’t asked my name or looked up purchase history. It can happen. A friendly personality helps…but not a fake friendly. Normally I only buy from my SA I’ve had for years…I am loyal that way. I couldn’t turn down the Birkin, I have three grown daughters and I knew one would be pleasantly surprised with it. I told my SA about it..she was fine. I did buy a scarf on a NYC trip also. Kind of a trip souvenir. Closing…don’t bug your SA…they are human, they keep notes..no need to beg.

I just watched her video last night, and then this was recommended, LOL. I'm not super knowledgable about Hermes or other designer companies or their products or how they do business, and I only saw this one video of Mel's, so my take is based solely on that. I think you're spot on. Mel seems to have some issues, and didn't seem to understand that she was pestering the hell out of that SA. And sorry, but SA are not your friends and aren't going to care at all about your personal milestones.

I’m in that journey right now haven’t scored Kelly or burkin yet but I’m not obsessing it to the point I let my self sad about not being offer yet. I bought things that I love and I’m honest to my SA that I’m not buying anything unless I truly love it and wanting the item. Feel lucky enough to be pulled in the private room just to be offered some bags that are also in demand like my mini Evelyn which was offered to me during Mother’s Day even that gives me the cloud9 feeling. Right now been collecting perfume from Hermès they have great collections and slowly building my collection. If I don’t get offer that’s fine life shouldn’t end from there I wasn’t born next to a Hermès bag so I can live without it lol. My family is my happiness and not my material things. I hope she can find her kids and husband as her source of happiness and contentment.

All this emotion about a thing we put other things in in order to leave the house to do stuff. People are sympathizing with both Mel and the SA but I truly wonder how the SA is doing in all of this. She didn't ask for this smoke yet here she is getting it. I hope the SA and the store manager are doing okay after all this unwanted attention. They were simply trying to do their jobs during a very stressful time in the world. Mel's video was tone deaf and she came off as entitled #firstworldproblems and it really put me off. She was defensive when people commented in ways that didn't prop her up. It's all just a mess. People are fighting for their lives and livelihoods but well - Mell wants another damn Hermes bag - so there's that.

THANK YOU for being real about this. "Don't tell me you're buying things with NO HOPES of getting a bag, we have a human tendency to manipulate situations to...." YES. I've seen so many comments that were like "um, I don't shop Hermes hoping to get a bag, if I do, awesome, if I don't...that's fine, too" Girl, stop. You were spot on here. Another thing that was happening while she was ...harassing... the sales associate was that there is literally a leather shortage that's been affecting Hermes production, and all luxury production for that matter, for a couple of years at this point. But it had already been affecting things when she was trying. It was very uncomfortable to watch her video as she read out emails about trying to have a baby etcetera...it was too much. But you are completely correct, and I love that you came at this like "if I were her friend". I found you a couple months ago and am loving your channel, but I happened upon this video first and always wanted to say this. Excellent approach to this, much more so than other responses I've seen that were not so...tactful. She's human, she misjudged and wasn't being self aware. It's not that deep.

The thing I don't get is why she doesnt just buy pre-loved bags. There are loads of them. My guess is that she wants to just resell them. And she has fomo. She has been completely sucked in to the exclusivity of it and when she isnt picked for it, it makes her feel like she has to push harder to be chosen which is why she buys all these other things from Herme. Pick me pick me pick me, I'm worthy, look at all the things Im spending money on. Its an energy at the end of the day.

I completely agree about self awareness... It seems like she had a major victim complex. She had resold a bag that had been offered to her and couldn't even take responsibility for that, completely glossed over it as a possible reason for not being offered another bag. She was constantly trying to guilt the SA into offering a bag, talking about skin cancer, depression, wedding anniversaries... It came off as desperate. Not to mention that the store manager had blocked her on Instagram. People don't do things like that without cause!

Spot on. I cringed as she Described Postpartum depression,Self-esteem struggles, giving birth to her children, cancer scare, etc. as part of her journey into obtaining a dream bag, Which by the way she had already been offered two bags through out her journey. Self-awareness really is the issue here. I don’t believe she understands such Life experiences are had by many and do not justify the need for a retail item. She described previous bouts of depression and later told the sales associate she was becoming depressed again. This is too much information for a sales associate to handle. As a nurse I pray she receives proper and affective mental health support. Let’s not forgetShe described spending $200,000 overtime in the store and called it her play money. She definitely has Wealth, children, husband, beauty, youth, what else could she need. SHe makes it difficult for the sales associate to feel pity on her and allow herself to be emotionally manipulated into the manner in which she does her daily job. just my thoughts.

She wasn't begging for the bag, she was being drug along to see just how much money they could get out of her while "waiting" for a "dream bag". I don't know why you guys put up with this. But once you get yours, you don't care about the messed up process anymore so that's a big reason why this shit is still a thing. We made them who they are. If we say no, that shit would stop.

The thing is what people fail to realize is that if you want specific things, sometimes you won’t get it right away. However, if you are more flexible and not as picky, you may get your way easier. There is a supply and demand and I’m not saying it’s right that you have to wait but at the end of the day it’s just stuff…
