Blender devs are killing it lately. So much new great stuff. Exciting times!

As someone who struggles to invest enough time in learning geo nodes, with other projects to work on, this kind of overview is priceless. I spent a fair of my career on Softimage, where the node system was superb - Blender seems to be on the path to something on another level.

Considering 99% of the time people will just want the raycast position when using mouse clicks, they could have very well added that as a node, or even as one of the outputs of the mouse node.

Amazing starting point for this new nodes, absolutely!

Viewing the values at the node connector seems inconvenient. Maybe in the future those values can be displayed in its own "outputs" node or within the log?

"apply the math without giving too much background" and this right here is the big problem Blender sometimes faces. Sure it is awesome for tech-savvy people that they can access raw values via the "mouse position" and "viewport transform" node, but for the intended purpose that 95% of people are actually going to use it (raycast from the center of the camera forward) you could have just added a node/nodegroup to hide away all the transformation math that people don't care about. This approach to things is a big reason why blender is so beginner-"hostile" is because often times the argument that comes up is: "but you have everything here to build what you need". While that might be true, the big reason why software like C4D, Maya, Houdini are so far ahead is because they actually ship with these shortcuts instead of making the user "develop them all by themselves". These programs do not require the user to laern the "math background", they would just give him a "raycast from camera"-node.

What you are describing is exactly what is planned for the future of geometry nodes. The hair node groups were a first small step in that direction, but there are some core development topics that need to be finalized before this can happen to a large extent. So in the future this tutorial will be redundant, but as of now it's still necessary. Being able to do these low level operations still provides a lot of benefits, that are available already. These things take time

@@SimonThommes Concordo, o blender ainda parece estar numa construção de algo maior do que os demais softwares, uma vez terminada essa construção o blender vai ser maior e melhor.

@@myslef7636 I'm not sure exactly what you are referring to. All node tools are node trees, so you can append/link them into your file or use the asset browser to import them. Refer to the manual or my previous video about node tools in general

These nodes look really interesting. Also, when I heard about these new nodes, it made me think "Are they.. working on putting the game engine back in?" because.. the way nodes are going, I feel like Blender may be working on a new game engine system for, I dunno. 5.0 update? I thought that was it when the engine was originally cut, but these interactive nodes that keep being added here and there, improved live rendering systems.. the main limitation to bringing back the game engine is more and more looking like just having a way to package an executeable; everything else necessary feels like the sort of thing Blender has been adding lately. Someone has probably already made a first-person system by now.

I think there's been said they won't probably ever bring back the game engine, as there's much work and areas in Blender, and it would take too much development time, even when there's amazing programs such as Godot, more so when there are amazing tools that connect Blender and Godot roughly in real time

are you gonna make a library for the simulation nodes too? like gravity, forces and collisions so we can use them easier?

Is it possible any way to animate this effect? And if so, which nodes we need to tweak? I want the crack to appear just in the middle of animation on object or so? I would appriciate a lot if someone would reply! Thx 🙏🙏🙏

It's cool, but blender devs, please, make just one node per function, that you did. It's a lot more simplier and faster for users, if we just add/absolute mouse position or raycast smth, just one node. I learnt vector math in the past, but i don't want to sit and recover this topic for days and experiment with 'em. If dont take into account reading manual of new nodes, which is annoying especially with math or coordinates. I just want simple node functions. Now it feels too heavy

This is amazing work! Speaking of amazing, The Rapture is so imminent and Jesus will take His people. Are you ready? Or you prefer to wait for the antiChrist and his 666 Mark of the Beast? WIth it comes problems too hard to imagine and not worth your life. Why don't you, you the reader of this message, come to Jesus Christ for a full pardon, to be forgiven of sin. HE calls and promises all sinners a welcome and the free gift of ETERNAL LIFE! God bless you. I love you all!🤗
