I've literally watched a billion interior design videos and never once has anyone explained these principles so clearly for the lay person like myself who just loves interior design but has never gone to design school. Thank you very much!!! 🙏

Very informative video and I like your 4 design principles. One thing I think must be considered when styling tables is how the people who actually live in the space will use them. I’ve seen some styled tables that leave no room to put anything else on the surface, like a drink glass, a reading book or even a phone. I once stayed in a bed & breakfast that had nightstands that left zero space to set ANYTHING. The tables have to function as a useable surface in addition to looking pretty.

I’m a writer, so I have my favorite books. As soon as you removed the jackets from the coffee table books, I sprang into action. Amazingly, the books look clean and elegant as they complete the design of my new room divider. Thank you, from your new subscriber

Beautiful !!! I like that you mentioned repetition. I repeat colors, but I haven't thought about repeating shapes. I guess I do it intuitively. Thanks for the hint.! I have so many things I had to sort them by the Month. I also made a checklist of elements to consider with each month's vignettes such as colors and themes. My list includes containers and risers, which you used wonderfully. My list also includes textiles and living things such as people and animals. That makes me stop and think about whether I can find a family photograph or figurine to embellish my vignettes, etc. You have worked magic with metal, which I have started experimenting with, but I didn't collect until I realized the value of it. Thanks for sharing! .

Id like to know. If I have a classic wood square coffee table can I put a more modern side table? The room is more modern but since my coffee table is traditional style and wedding gift I cant get rid of it. It is gorgeous.😊
@ashleychilders Жыл бұрын
Absolutely!!! I love mixing styles. I’d recommend using a modern shape with contrasting material to the coffee table. Like marble or iron! Or if you go with a wood side table do a finish that’s different from the coffee table. 🤎🤎

I just have to comment. I thing ruins the display more than books without their beautiful covers. I love books and have an double glass coffee table and my beautiful albums and coffee table books are under all with their own covers. On top I have stacks of books I want to read with plants on top of them. At different levels. To each his own. My room is gorgeous and everyone remarks on it and of my habit of reading which is very evident but still tastefully done.

Glass coffee tables are nice but only in videos and pictures. Used to have one and unless you use it as a book display and never to have a cup of coffee or a snack, it will have scratches and will get dusty on a daily basis.

This room has too much going on. The style is not cohesive and is very confusing. Too many items grouped together (side table especially), too many different styles just tossed in together. A tiny short table on one side and a tall table on the other side of that odd chair is not good design. Sorry this room is not well thought out.

Over styled and stuffy. Looks a bit pretentious in that it’s not practical to have so many decorative items that leave no room for even a coffee cup and a real book that one actually reads. Yea I know you said you read yours…
