I started the Intermittent Fasting 8 hr. eating window and 16 hour fast, in July after watching your June video. I have lost 15 pounds just by limiting my eating window to about 9-5p. I pack my lunch and I pack a breakfast bar every day M-F and I also prepare a large tumbler of water to sip throughout the day. I am 61 years old and never thought weight loss could be this easy. I’m looking forward to lowering my risk of getting adult onset diabetes (this runs in my family). I was 182 ibs to start and this week I am 167 lbs. this week. Thank you Jennifer, I too feel like I am on my way to improving my health trajectory and this feels so satisfying. 🌻

I've done intermittent fasting ever since I was a teenager even though I didn't know that's what it was called. I was never a breakfast person even though everyone said it was the most important meal of the day I couldn't eat it. I always had a healthy lunch and dinner , rarely ate potato chips, cheesies , soda's or lots of candy that just wasn't our household. My family's treats were fresh fruit and veggies with homemade dip. No one in my family has ever had weight issues , we're all healthy and active and are happy going for hikes almost each weekend's.😊🍁

Jennifer, thank you so very much for this very encouraging video! I was diagnosed with a terminal lymphatic disease called LAMs disease, 21 years ago, it is a disease that only women are born with and so believed to be linked to estrogen... I was told I might live 3 to 5 years... After two years, I had cut out all fast food, junk food and went organic, everything, from makeup to meat, everything! I didn't know intermittent fasting as a term, but that's how I began to eat. Here I am, 21 years later, still thriving, very fit and I am told all the time how (not in a prideful way) how beautiful I am and how healthy I look. I'm in my fifties and feel so blessed and grateful to the Lord for His mercy and grace on my life ❤️ Thank again for sharing all of this! May God richly bless you and keep you 🙏❤️🙏

Hello Mrs. Scott, since watching your first video on Intermittent fasting I have lost 22 pounds. It happened so quickly for me. I would like to lose another 10 lbs. and I’ll be where I was before having children. The main things I did was I omitted sugar from my coffee and tea and I did 16/8 fasting. I would drink 2 cups of coffee a day and one cup of tea at night. I sleep so much better, I have lots of energy, I don’t crave sugar or sweets between meals. I also had a small cyst in my hand that was there for years and it’s gone!?! Thank you for the first video and this updated video. These videos were so helpful and very interesting. The letter from Marianne brought me to tears. What a beautiful testimony. I believe in the IF method and appreciate the encouragement this video brought back. It isn't easy (if you keep having to restart), but I have never felt my best until i started IF method. There are many opposing opinions on this "diet". Which I often find myself correcting people when they place IF in the diet category. It isn't a diet. It's a method of eating pattern. No foods have to be restricted. Thank you Jennifer for staying true to what is right and being open and honest.

Jennifer, your first video on this pushed me into trying IF myself and I am so grateful you did it. My eczema and allergies are GONE (were severe & with me since a teen). I am off one blood pressure med and prob going off the other one shortly. Gave up scales years ago, so have no idea how many pounds are off, but am down TWO sizes of jeans and feel great in shorts again, so gave up the frumpy-dumpy capris this summer; 4" off hip measurement since last year. All of this since March 2021 when I saw your video. THANK YOU AND BLESS YOU ❤️

I am 64 years old, looking to lose at least 10-15 pounds, and need to get in shape before I develop major health issues. I have a sluggish metabolism (hypothyroidism in my family; mine has been borderline for years), bloated and puffy, unmotivated, fatigued, very sedentary since the pandemic, and prone to migraines. I started Intermittent Fasting, 16/8, on September 1st. By the 18th, I broke my fast for 3 days, and restarted it on the 21st. In all honesty, I am glad I broke my fast. It made me realize how amazing I felt before doing so. Before breaking my fast, I lost 4 pounds, was coffee free for a week (not a fan of black coffee), very energized (no longer need coffee to kick start my day), mental clarity (no more brain fog), started exercising, noticed the puffiness and bloating decreasing, etc. Overall, I felt lighter and freer! Breaking my fast brought all of my old symptoms back. I started drinking black coffee to help kick start my day. Other than the coffee, which today is my last day, I feel like I’m back on track again. I did gain 2 pounds back. My goal now is not about weight lose; that will come. It’s more about feeling healthy, energized, lighter, freer! Listening to your journey and knowing that you’ve been doing this for 18 months brings me hope. I look forward to the day the puffiness is gone from my face and it’s more defined. My weight goal was to go down to 140 pounds, not to 110, which was where I was before my first child. Again, it’s not about the weight lose, so if I go down to 110, then so be it! Many have asked what you eat. Since June, before hearing about IF, I have reduced gluten (sensitive), dairy (causes sinus infections), fats (no gallbladder), and sugar, and incorporated this in my IF eating. Since doing so, I no longer have cravings, except when I indulge in them. For me, this way of eating is not a diet, it’s a life change!

I am an "all-in or all-out" person. I also have an addictive personality. I tend to be completely off sugar or quickly making my way back to an addiction. Knowing this has helped me so much in so many ways. I too love knowing what my boundary is. It is incredibly liberating in a weird way. I have always been petite and love following good nutrition habits--minimal or no snacking, whole foods, mostly water etc. I don't necessarily need to fast but I will be sharing this! ***I only feel lethargic after eating if I've eaten gluten, yeast or sugar (years of food logging). In case that helps anyone else trying to figure out their health issues.

Hi from England. So happy for Mary Ann. My daughter in law has been diagnosed with cancer of the lymph nodes so I know how worrying it is. I keep saying that I must be one of the few people who have come out of the epidemic healthier than I went into it. At the beginning of 2020 I was diagnosed as being prediabetic and was put on a course run by the N.H.S. to get insulin under control. Because of the pandemic the course was done on Zoom. About this time I first found out about intermittent fasting and shortly afterwards I found your channel. The course made me very aware of what I was eating but the educator would not comment on intermittent fasting. Anyway, I have stuck to it, eating healthy but within reason, during my 8 hour eating period, I eat whatever I want. Et voila, I have lost 20lbs and feel great. I wan't greatly overweight but needed to lose this amount. I am 75, full of energy love my life (I have always done that), and feel much more confident. My glucose level is now below the danger mark! Thanks for doing these videos.

Another great video - I am definitely looking forward to your next video with Dr. Tae (sp?) regarding portion sizes in conjunction with intermittent fasting. Though I did notice two aspects regarding portions on the plates featured in this video that I believe are key components (according to my highly subjective observations lol) 1. You use traditional china which tends to be smaller in portion when compared to the typical "American-sized" dinner plates you get from Target, Walmart or at restaurants; and 2. you portion your food within the "inner ring" of that china neatly without excessive overflow onto the sides of the plates. Again - it's a highly subjective observation based on this video and ones you've filmed before regarding traditional china.

After losing 35 pounds over the past couple of years, I was stuck. Thanks to you, I"ve tried intermittent fasting (more like 10 hours) and painlessly lost another ten pounds over the past few months. I absolutely resonated with your words when you said you are no longer interested in food outside your meals. I had not realized it, but neither, now, am I. It also seems that what is on my plate is plenty. Multiple trips for seconds, thirds, etc. are fading away. Portion sizes become more and more reasonable and I eat everything. (Chips and cookies have been banned from my house for a couple of years, but I do eat them elsewhere. You know what? I no longer need to eat the whole package; a few is plenty. ) Thank you for continuing to speak about this totally natural and maybe traditional (yes, it's exactly how my ever-slim mother ate) eating plan. I look forward to hearing more and more.

I'm almost 26, and am an amateur ballet dancer. Health and fitness are interesting to me but I have not had any time to study these subjects deeply or find a diet/fitness that I can fit into my schedule. I've been trying (and failing) to kick a late-night binge-eating habit I've had for 10 years. Motivated by your videos, I decided to try the 16:8 method and hopefully get better muscle tone, cleaner lines, and a lighter weight, which are all important in ballet (particularly if you need a dance partner to lift you). I decided to just do 1 month for starters. So far I've gone from about 130 lb. to 124 lb. Doesn't sound like a lot, but I have visibly better muscle tone and no more bloating. I haven't weighed that in probably 11 years, and I am loving the way I look in my ballet attire. I'm going to keep doing this because I have totally lost the night binge habit, and you were right Jennifer - the cravings do go away. Now I'm on month 2. I may comment with another update later on. I can't tell you how encouraging this has been, to not think about food all the time, and to feel more elegant in my outfits. Definitely wouldn't have tried this if not for your videos. I love all your videos, Jennifer, and all summer they have really helped me clean up my lifestyle and embrace adulthood.

My husband and I gained quite a bit of weight over the pandemic. We watched your 12 month IF video before Labor Day weekend, and decided to use the long weekend to try it out. He has lost 5 lbs and I have lost 8 lbs as of this morning. We used to eat small meals & snacks 6-8 times between 6am to 11pm. Yesterday, we forgot to eat lunch. The changes take time but not too long. The 2 tips that helped us was to drink sparkling (fizzy) water during hunger pangs and to brush our teeth right after dinner.

I feel inspired by this video. I've tried to lose weight for years, but it has always been a struggle. My natural eating patterns are not very far from intermittent fasting. I'm not a big breakfast person, and I've never been a huge evening snacker. The one thing that has stopped me from fully trying IF was the creamer in my coffee. I couldn't imagine having my coffee black. But I've been cutting down on creamer all week and this morning I drank it black. And it wasn't terrible! I can do this. I finished dinner around 6pm last night, had black coffee this morning, and didn't break my fast until noon for lunch. I truly hope this helps me get back to my ideal weight. ❤️

I would suspect that plateaus affect older women more. I was a stick throughout my 40s. I put on a modest amount in my 50s and, finally in my 60s noticed that despite eating nutritious (organic) food and being a "beast" for 2 hours in the gym every night, I only put on more weight. I don't take daily meds of any kind and felt good (no thyroid issues either) but that was still too much weight. So I got onto IF 3 months ago. I'm 10 pounds down after 3 months and have plateaued twice. I don't worry about this plateau because the other benefits are so good. Everything that Jennifer is saying is absolutely true about the other benefits.

I also do longer term fasting, now primarily surrounding my chemo treatments but before that diagnosis I did 24 hr fasts once a month or so. Now I do three and 4 day fasts every 21 days surrounding my chemo treatments. After chemo I plan to do 48 to 72 hr fasts once every 4 to 6 weeks. I do credit my intermittent fasting combined with keto with my cancer being discovered in its early stage, since fasting promotes autophagy and boosts the immune system fight against damaged cells. For me, I eliminate ALL snacking, am extremely low carb, and only eat two meals a day. Lately I’ve been cycling off keto into modest carb consumption in order to create metabolic flexibility. After a day or two of that, I resume low carb. Some keto experts recommend a week or more cycling off, after you meet your goal weight. My fasts are usually 18 to 20 hrs. Everyone needs to model these diets to fit their unique metabolisms. Some, like you, may not need to lower carbs, though most extremely overweight, or borderline obese people will need to do so to eliminate insulin resistance which is the cause of weight gain. Also, it is a lifetime change, not something you start and then stop.

It was your first IF video that convinced me to just do it. I had been watching videos about it but after seeing your video and at the same time having my cardiologist recommend Jason Fung’s books to me I started my journey. Low carb since June 1st, started with 16:8 and graduated to ADF alternate day fasting. I have lost 35 pounds. I no longer feel like food has a hold over me the way it has for the last 30 years of my life of constant diet restrictions. Thank you!

Since watching your videos in July I am down 22.5 lbs! Thank YOU! I have really focused on digestive and inflammation fighting foods to build my immunity! When I hit a stall, I make a change: added more tea to my day, or added things to my water like chia seeds and lemon, or basal, mint, cucumber and lemons to my water, or added cinnamon, ginger, turmeric and black pepper to my tea or added more nuts to my day! I love this!! THANK YOU!

Dear Jennifer, I would like to thank you for the content concerning intermittent fasting! Especially, the one with the Q&A with dr. Patty Tae. I am post menopausal, I have gained weight around the waist and for years I was trying to loose some pounds. But how hard I tried, nothing seemed to change. I visited a menopause consultant and she told me that she practiced intermittent fasting and that it worked for her. So I started to inform myself about this topic. Now, I've lost 8 pounds after a period of 3 months. Thank you again. Keep up the good spirit and work.

We started IF in March, and not long after, I saw your 1- year follow-up video (I've been a fan for many years). We also adhere, somewhat, to keto, but aren't militant about it. I've lost about 40 lbs; my husband, about 60. It's the most effortless thing I've ever done! I have 23 lbs to go before I'm within the normal BMI range, but might continue another 20-30 lbs to get back to my 20s/ young mommy size (at 58, that may not be doable, but why not try?) We both have many health issues, so this has also helped improve our health (it's true that autophagy does "clean up" damaged cells as well as burns fat, which is key to weight loss without the jiggly loose skin) Someone mentioned Dr. Jason Fung; he's very informative, as well as many other MDs on YT. The resources are out there if you search. But as a naturally lazy, or undisciplined, person, this way of being is very intuitive and so simple to maintain. As Jennifer said, it's just a way of life and thoughts of food no longer dominate our lives!

I loved your comment (and your father's) that when you're hungry at night don't worry -- it's because you're burning fat. I've thought the same thing and I find it so empowering. Nice to know I'm not the only one thinking this. I'm also a rule follower. I think intermittent fasting gives me a structure to work with and that just works for me. I seemed to plateau with the 16/8 fasting schedule so I went to an 18/6 with 2 meals a day. I never thought I could do this, because I always had to have breakfast. But it's working for me. I feel sharp, clear, and energetic even when I haven't eaten yet in the morning (but don't take my mug of tea away -- a little caffeine is a must!). I'm slowly, but steadily losing weight - more than 20 pounds so far since November.

Your video from a year ago on fasting just popped up on my phone today. I had never seen your channel before. I'm glad to have found it. I've been doing IF for a year now. My eating window has been 4 hours. It works really well for me. Right now I'm doing a fast with my church and I'm only eating one meal a day. This is the only thing that has ever worked for me, that I was able to maintain the weight loss and feel good, and not be starving! Menopause was not kind and no matter what I did I could not get the weight off. The weight where I feel good in my skin is about 127 and I got up to almost 160! I'm 5'3" and that is way too much for me. The only good thing is I gain all over so most people never even noticed. But it was devistating for me because I have always watched what I ate and exercised. I would say my best tool to do this fast is to always have a travel mug of hot water with a little squeeze of lemon. It keeps me from getting hungry. I am now 2 lbs from the goal I set for myself and I am so happy! I will never go back to eating the way I used to eat. I was already selective about the quality of my food, but now even more so. If I am only eating once or twice a day I want it to be good. If I eat something that's just OK I feel like it was a waste because that's all I'm having until the next day! When you haven't done it you think it's impossible. Just start slow and cut your eating window down and go from there. It's a good thing!

I started IF by accident , felt really good, and very slowly lost weight, almost 2 pounds a month. I aimed for 3, and lost 13. I am 69 and did not want to lose quickly, or it could show a lot in my face. I too went below my weight from college, and got worried that it would go too far. I watched your one year video, and you are the ONLY person who brought this issue up. I actually thought I might be ill. To not lose any more weight, my window changed from 11-7, to 10-7. If I have to be up and out early I will eat at 7, if I need to. I used to spend all day , for 40 years! trying to control getting the shakes, from low blood sugar. Sweets were out of the question as that made it worse, so at least that wasn't a problem. In 11 months the shakes have only happened twice. I was definitely a hot eater. Now I rarely think about food in between meals. I also added a lot of foods, like organic potatoes, pastas and homemade breads. I used to gain 2 pounds if I ate anything other than a diet dinner before. I don't think the starches are necessarily good for the system, but I still feel good and don't want to lose more. I never thought that I would be able to enjoy a nice meal with occasional extras. It is such a pleasure after a lifetime of stressing.

When I was a overweight teenager, breakfast was at 6 a.m., lunch on school schedule, dinner at 4ish. I had no control over breakfast and dinner and I really, really wanted/needed to lose weight. I stopped eating lunch. Over the school year I lost 26 pounds (all I needed to lose). Even though this was not intermittent fasting, I had a daily 8 hour block of time when I did not eat.

Such inspiration! My husband and I have been practicing IF since last October and he has dropped 65 pounds and I have lost 10 (I am at my high school weight and don't want to go lower). We both love what we eat and we eat good, quality foods. The feeling of being in control of our bodies is very liberating. And our bodies are rewarding us with feeling good (no aches and pains) and being very active. We are 59 years old and feel great! This is a good lifestyle.

While I am a new follower of your videos, I have been Intermittent fasting for 8 months and have lost 30 lbs. (I am 61) I recently had a sleep study done for sleep apnea. I was happy to be told that my sleep apnea had reduced enough that it required no treatment, unlike my diagnosis of 12 years ago. My Dr. said this rarely happens that someone improves, even with weight loss, but, he did attribute it to my recent weight loss. I have also finally gotten over my foot pain and back pain. Incidentally, I also practice low carb eating most of the time, but, not keto.

I was looking for ways to help my husband with his high cholesterol and found intermittent fasting. I did a KZbin search and came across your video. I mentioned what you had experienced to him, and he agreed to try. He has been doing this for about two months, and lost 20 lbs! He is also eating healthier and not having the daily extra work snacks. He told me he feels so much better, and has more energy. We haven’t gotten his cholesterol checked again, but we’re hopeful over time this will really help his health. On a side note, I’ve decided to try it as well (not for weight loss but for health as I suffer with IBS). Wow! I cannot believe the difference in my overall energy and digestion. I truly feel so much better! Thank you so much! You’ve truly helped our family.

That email from Mary Ann is amazing! I am rethinking everything about my husband’s and my diet . We are generally healthy and eat pretty well, but we were shocked when he had a heart attack two weeks ago and a subsequent triple bypass! No heart disease in his family, and no previous symptoms, but he has Rhumatoid Arthritis, which causes inflammation. I have just been diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder and am investigating going gluten free, because I’ve heard gluten produces inflammation. I will be looking into IF when our lives settle down a bit. Our daughter is getting married a week from tomorrow! We are all so grateful he will be able to walk her down the aisle! QUESTION: is the 16-8 method the only option, or can you get benefits from other window time frames. Thank you for sharing your journey!

This is the first video of yours I have watched and I love the cancer testimony. As a recent liver cancer survivor I am looking for ways to keep the weight off that I lost while recovering from two liver resection surgeries (30 lbs). Her story has inspired me to take the leap and try intermittent fasting as I was on the fence. Not only for the weight loss but what I call cancer prevention for myself. I have drastically changed my diet and that has helped to maintain my weight along with being able to once again live the active lifestyle I enjoy. But I have hit a plateau and I'm hoping intermittent fasting will help "shock my system" into losing the last bit of weight I want to lose.

I think you're one of the very few lucky ones that could eat 3 times a day with some carbs and still lose weight with intermittent fasting. I did some IF and lost only 4 lbs. in 6 months. So I did the low-carb intermittent fasting (LCIF) with only 1,200 kcal/day and that's when I lost 30 lbs in 6 months. You're right, it's different for everyone. If anything, intermittent fasting may not lose us big weight but i feel it's helping our bodies inside. It dodges many illnesses that may be developing while we don't do IF.

One very possible reason for a plateau is still too much calorie consumption during the eating window. If you eat 3,000 calories, but have a more sedentary lifestyle where you burn significantly less than that, you will still not lose. Moderation is still an important key with IF.

I am very happy that I started on this journey to intermittent fasting. I too look forward to breaking/opening my fast, and look forward to stopping eating. I have come a long way, I use to eat all through the day in the past, and when finished working at 7.00pm I go to my favorite Caribbean restaurant to buy fried chicken fry dumplings and all sorts. Now I can walk home past that same restaurant, and do not feel the need to eat after I have closed my eating window. It is a very good habit to have. I am not so taken up with losing weight, not that it is not happening but I am so happy, to know I have to build a healthy habit. I am obese at the moment 5ft 9ins 17.08 stones or 111 kg. My doctor reckons I must be at 15stones. I will go back to him in a year's time God willing and surprise him. I am optimistic, that will be the case. Can't wait.

Thank you so much for sharing your journey and encouraging your listeners! I started intermittent fasting about 18 months ago as well. Three years ago I had my second daughter who was born with congenital heart disease. She would require two separate heart surgeries which happened over the course of 8 months. She had many complications with feeding and was on continuous tube feeds through her whole first eight months. I wanted to breast-feed her which required exclusive pumping to do; she couldn’t nurse. We would still have to fortify with formula because of the amount of calories she needed for how hard her heart was working. I had a wonderful, quality pump (Spectra-feels just like a baby!) and purchased silicone flanges and all the things I would need to most productively and effectively express breastmilk for her. Unfortunately, I did not get a good start and the stress of what we were going through limited my milk supply. In order to help it out, I ate all the things that increase milk production… Carbohydrate/starts rich foods. I gained so much weight and became so inflamed. I wasn’t moving much apart from walking to the hospital. I had a 30 minute drive to the hospital each way and I sat in the hospital most of the time. I sat down pumping frequently and doing power pumping sessions to try to assist my milk supply. So I had very little movement, a ton of calories, a lot of stress… I also became very insulin resistant as a result. After my daughters second surgery when she was fully repaired, we were able to wean her from tube feeding and start oral feeding! Today, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between her and other children apart from the scars she bears beneath her shirt. We are incredibly grateful and blessed! But I was left in a terrible state of health. I was so happy to be able to feed my daughter the best way possible with both breast milk and formula and she did do so much better this way, but my body was broken down from it. I’m grateful I was able to produce just enough milk for what she needed in that time, I pumped for 13 months. I started intermittent fasting a few months later in December along with a regular exercise routine. I went to physical therapy for my core and started slowly regaining strength. I worked with them about what kind of workouts to do and how to work up to regular exercise. Now, about a year and a half later into intermittent fasting I have been able to lose about 20 pounds! I’m still on my journey for sure and have about 15 more pounds I would like to lose but I’m in a very good place with muscle tone and energy to play with my children! I follow several KZbinrs here for intermittent fasting and just found you a little more recently but I have to say I definitely like your approach! It is sustainable and doesn’t require so much tracking or special foods/cutting groups out. I did have to do some elimination for a time to bring down information a little more quickly but I have never felt better!
