Jennifer, in March of 2021 I started Intermittent Fasting (Tine Controlled Eating.). I was so inspired by you. I didn't have much weight to lose, just a few pounds, really, but this plan made sense to me as something I could easily do. I live alone, so that helps. I do have dinner with my kids once a week, and on that day I just eat normally without a time limit. As you have said, I feel that I just want to eat more high quality meals, without snacking, and not obsessing over food. I love how it makes me feel. I sleep better and have so much more energy. I have lost most of my sugar cravings too - a BIG thing for me. Thank you and Dr. Tae for so much good information in a relaxed manner. Not guilt inducing, no talk of "Bad" foods or guilt. It didn't take me that long to adjust. I do a 16/8 schedule. I so appreciate your making this information available.

Every time you post a new IF video, I get so excited to update my progress. I started IF on September 13, 2021 after I watched your results video. You inspired me to give it a try. I've tried every diet you can imagine to try to lose weight, but none of them worked for me long term because they were too restrictive. With intermittent fasting, I've lost 32.5 lbs so far. I'm amazed! I haven't been at this weight in over 6 years. I feel so much better. My clothes are getting baggy on me, and I'm reaching for things I haven't been able to wear in years. I am so close to my first weight loss goal. Only 5.6 lbs to go :) I still have a long way to go to hit my dream goal weight, but I am confident that I will eventually get there. Thank you so much for bringing awareness to this amazing way of eating. It has changed my life, healed my horrible relationship with food, and has shown me that I can achieve my goals. Seeing my success with weight loss has inspired me to work on other goals in my life. Thank you thank you thank you!

There was a study done on females who live with males like spouses, brothers, roomates, etc. They found that when the female was cooking and serving all the food, they would give equal portions to themselves and the male. And that is a big reason why women in long term domestic relationships with men tend to gain so much wieight over the years.

Ding ding ding!!! My husband has an insane appetite. His metabolism is just crazy, fast so he eats massive portions. It really did psychologically change my view of "normal" portions by living with him, and I did put on a lot of weight when we were first married. (That was part of it, although there was also a hormonal component to my overeating as well). Now, I give myself smaller portions and sometimes I can't even finish those hahahaha.

My husband has taken over the cooking in our home due to not working for past 9 months. He enjoys it and I have struggled with his choice of meals and our new food budget. Theres lots of pasta and casseroles with not much veg. They are the types of meals where the protein is not served separate but it's all mixed together. I dont want to be too demanding re what he serves up but did ask for more veg. He bought small packets of frozen veg for me which was a great idea. I can have a bit of pasta or casserole and then just microwave some veggies to have with it. It keeps us all happy as we go through a bit of a stressfull time. I love your dont overthink it attitude to food Jennifer and this discussion was so relaxed and helpful. Eating should be enjoyable and a good communal experience, not a set of rules and maths calculations. At work they've told us to eat our lunch in our cars now. It's the saddest thing. No joy in that.

Happy New Year Jennifer! This was VERY informative!!! I have been dabbling in IF for about eight months. At first, the idea of not eating breakfast as soon as I got up was horrifying. But after trying it, I started to try longer and longer and now I can function normally without eating breakfast. Likewise, no snacks after dinner seemed impossible, but now, I never eat anything after about 7pm. Essentially it is HABITS that stand in our way. Once you make new habits, everything is super easy. I feel great and look great!! And I am not sacrificing or saying NO to any food or counting calories.

Dr. Tae, you are wealth of sound advice & thank you for clarifying that you are a generalist, not a specialist! Just as an alternative to trying out expensive meal services, you can also look at purchasing "portion control plates". They are a less expensive starting point for figuring out portions and you can reuse them indefinitely (along with your fist and palm😉)!♥️🇨🇦

Once I started doing a flexible 14/10 or 16/8 IF my sleep has improved so so much. And I really really appreciate that the LARGEST portion Dr. Tae showed was comprised of VEGGIES! As for portion sizes I use a food scale and that works so well for me because I grew up overweight and was not educated on healthy portion sizes. While the food scale helped so much to re-train my brain and it worked super well for me that I do understand that it can be triggering for certain people so it's not for everyone.

One of the ways that I control portion sizes is using vintage dinner plates. I have a vintage set of dishes from the 1950s. The difference between a modern dinner plate and a 1950s plate is kind of mind -blowing! We rarely eat out & if we do it’s usually just a chick fil a drive through. lol I either get the kids meal or split a salad with my daughter. Our kid’s meals today are the average portion size of the 1950s at a restaurant for an adult.

I really enjoyed this interview with Dr Tae. I enjoy all your videos on Intermittent Fasting and what you eat in a day. I think we are all overeating on the pizza but I think part of that is because we see the pizza as the whole meal. When we get Pizza, that is what we have. We don't count it as the carb portion or bread portion of our meal and then add more protein and a salad. Interesting.

Thank you Jennifer, I have been following your IF journey and like that you don't do a particular diet with it. I've not had much luck with time restricted eating yet, but I have been able to learn to eat smaller portions and find the benefits of that go beyond just losing a little extra weight (like less bloating and energy slumps). I also started a new habit of eating a kid's meal when we go to the Ikea restaurant, it's basically 4 meatballs, 1 scoop of mashed potato and whatever veg they have, and surprisingly it doesn't feel like too little, also leaves a little room for some dessert :)

Love using our own body proportions and a divided plate to inform our food portions. No need for a food scale or measuring cups. Also, migrating motor complex (MMC) is the name for when the stomach growls. The movement in our digestive system pushes undigested matter through to the intestines, cleaning out the stomach. This increases good gut bacteria and removes things that would cause bloating. MMC can only occur if someone has not eaten for four hours or longer. People who constantly snack do not experience MMC. This is another reason why time-restricted eating or Intermittent fasting is so beneficial for our health.

It’s important to have a healthy balanced view on the subject of weight. Many women end up messed up because of the over emphasis on the topic of weight. I believe fasting is a good topic but not to emphasize it. Keeping it in its place is very important. Some people are starving in the world for lack of food. Others are starving themselves because of their low self image. Personally I find some curves very beautiful. ❤️

As an empty nester, I love my meal kit service! Ironically, my husband and I find the portion size a bit large. Our “2 serving” meal kit usually equals dinner plus a single lunch serving. Two lunches if they have pasta.

What about eating according to calorie density? Studies have shown that eating foods that have the lowest calorie density first and filling up on those automatically. Makes you consume less of the more calorie dense foods. By doing this you are also consuming a much higher levels of antioxidant rich foods which is not only helpful in weight loss but in preventing disease.

Thanks Jennifer! Love your books as well. Would love Dr Tae to come back and talk about picky eaters :) !!! I have been around kids all my life and my youngest is such a different kind of challenge when it comes to food....

I think it’s important to remember that your carb portion does not have to be grains (grains can tend to make me feel bloated so I don’t eat them every night). Your carb portion could be a higher carb veggie like potatoes, sweet potatoes, or something to that effect. Also, a doctor I used to work for would always remind us medical assistants to eat some amount of healthy fat with our meals to keep us satiated. She recommended avocado or butter.

The human body is so wise if only we would listen to it! My favorite take away is delivered meals, like Hello Fresh, are portion controlled.
