They're hurt when we don't stop talking about their scandals, so people cannot pretend that they don't know. Bust out your products, use them, tag Ofra and talk about why you don't purchase anymore from the brand. THAT is how you hurt a brand or influencer.

I'm glad you're making these videos. ngl I've been irritated when people say they're tired of the "drama" and feeding into the attention seeking. When people stop talking about it, that's when people forget what happened. People wanting to move on and not mention these influencers is why they're still out here doing whatever they want. Not only do they know the public will eventually move on, they're banking on it. It's happened time and time again.

As a fem gay man who has survived a lot of sexual violence, sometimes this James Charles stuff is so exhausting to consume. On the one hand, the disgusting crimes he's committed are triggering to hear about. On the other hand, sometimes criticisms of him veer into people attacking his identities in ways that are also triggering, especially in the comments which I just really should stop reading. I suppose you could say I'm feeling...triggered lmao. I SO wish I didn't share identities with this person and that he wasn't viewed as a representative of those identities. To add to the list of all the bigotry James Charles shows-he’s also ableist, he’s tweeted about how annoying it is to be behind a wheelchair user But also Rikki Poytner (a Deaf KZbinr) literally walked him through how to properly caption his videos (for FREE when he was making so much money) and at that point he still didn’t caption, she ended up invoicing him for her time and he wouldn’t pay it. Then when he DID announce he was appropriately captioning his videos he captioned like 2 videos & then quit.

i think something not a lot of people know about is how james acted with tommyinnit (a popular minecraft youtuber/twitch streamer). I believe it was during the main scandal from 2021 involving james texting minors. Tommy, who during that time had just turned 17, mentioned on stream that james called him beautiful while they were on a call alone together. Tommy wasn't aware of any of the stuff that was happening with james, but wilbur (another minecraft youtuber, who's sort of almost a bigger brother to tommy) knew and was very concerned. I just think it's notable because as all of these allegations were happening, james was STILL continuing to talk with minors. Even though this wasn't particularly serious, it still just shows a pattern of behavior (also a lot of people who aren't really in the gaming side of twitch/youtube know about it)

The first thing that rubbed me the wrong way about James was him trying to own the word "sister" while continuing to disrespect women. As far as I'm aware, he identifies as cisgender but likes to coopt femininity while constantly disrespecting cis women. Marlena for example. The beauty community on KZbin and Instagram was initially founded by the work of women. I love that makeup is for everyone and people like Manny get to shine for their work. But it rubs me the wrong way to come in to a space built by women, steal the ideas of women with smaller audiences, and then try to refer to yourself in the feminine. "Sister" is not a word for cis men like James and Jeffree who don't respect women and honor the path they paved for them.

yeah it’s definitely true that the men in the makeup community seemed to have a type of privilege despite being gay. The way in which both Tati, Laura Lee, and Jaclyn Hill have constantly been mercilessly attacked is proof of this. That’s another problem. When people become very successful at a young age, they often have no motivation to listen to the people trying to guide them. I also think fame, sort of like trauma, can cause arrested development if it happens young enough. I think my biggest problem with James Charles is that he prepeuates a stereotype that gay men are predatory, mysoginitic, entitled and just gross. One of his more recent scandals that really rubbed me the wrong way was his responses to Alicia Keyes partnering with Elf for skincare and the snafu with the packaging for Lauren Conrad’s new brand and him having this entitlement of being able to say who is or isn’t allowed to come into the beauty space. Plus referring to Marlena Stell as “that woman”, there is a streak of misogyny in him that is so off-putting. This video reminded me of why I didn’t like him as a creator, not that I ever forgot. 😤

When tarte released shape tape foundation back in 2018 with a trash shade range Nikkie deleted her review to avoid the drama and after J* attacked her for doing so (which was so ironic btw) she paid him dust. She never acknowledged any of this and does a pretty good job of using these people like James for her videos while distancing herself from their scandals. And now i think she doesn’t talk to either J* or James. And Jackie, ugh a true queen. She really has been on top of the beauty game for years, being her flowers now!

Loved this video!! I remember watching James’ “Ranking my scandals” video when it came out, and just thinking of how off-base it was to rank your worst actions, when it’s about the people he hurt, not him. While he did seem apologetic for some things, he still refused to acknowledge the hurt he caused in other scandals, like the mugshot trend. He just refused to acknowledge his privilege in that situation and moved on. It made me realize how truly stubborn he was, and how every admission of guilt was as a result of a battle from the internet and likely from his team

I believe it’s VERY IMPORTANT you bring attention to JC. Mainstream media lets him get away with such disgusting behavior and sadly they will not pay attention until something else VERY tragic happens.

Adding a comment for the algorithm. Also I appreciate your consistent return to the "this dude's entitlement led him to do shitty things and he entirely deserves his fall from grace" theme.

I love these “evolution of” videos! They’re so entertaining and well put together; they also make me nostalgic for 2015-2018 when I was really into beauty KZbin 😂. Would love to see you do one on grav3yardgirl if you ever need a suggestion!

I appreciate these videos. Esp since I have an almost 9 year old, who will likely use YT within the next 4 years (with supervision) & these reminders for new kids coming on the platform & finding who they want to follow (& their parents) need to know these things.

Hannah, you post these at the perfect time. I have a child who still gets up at night, so I pop in my Bluetooth headphones and listen while I care for him. Your videos are always interesting and it makes it easier to stay awake when I have to get up. Thank you ❤️
