One of the most underrated interstates (in my opinion). Love how the landscape slowly smooths out as you head west - starts to give you those Western PA/Ohio vibes. Also neat to drive over French Creek as a tiny little stream in Chautauqua County; hard to believe it turns into the creek you see in Franklin PA!

nice ride with beautiful sights, characteristic of that 86/17 and no traffic

For those who don’t notice, at 3:09:11 to 3:10:01 NY-17 dips a little bit South into Pennsylvania for a few minutes with signs for I-86. But that’s still maintained by New York’s DOT.

@Zoro-ix5ls it physically dips into PA at Waverly/Sayre. Of course, it enters PA permanently near North East PA at the end of the line

I 684 does something similar in Connecticut, though that portion doesn't even have an exit in CT

Having lived in two communities that are both right off of Route 17, it's a very special highway for me, whether it be on the Southern Tier Expressway portion, the Quickway portion. I'm going to have to write to my legislators to ensure that the 17 designation stays alongside the I-86 designation once everything is brought up to Interstate standards, which thanks to the at-grade stretch in Delaware County, might not be for some time. Route 17 also bears the scars of every one of its former alignments. There's exits that you would never know were there at one time, places where you can tell that at one time the older portions of 17 merged with the four-lane 17 we know of today (one example of this is near exit 102 in Harris).

Maximum speed for the trip?

I live in Allegany off the I-86. The max speed is 65 MPH, but you should have no problem toppin’ it off at about 70.
