After many years of opposition from the Gila River Indian Reservation, ADOT will finally be widening the final 23 mile stretch of I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson within the next year or so. The last remaining stretch between Chandler to near Casa Grande is in the environmental study phase as we speak. One of the major parts of the project is replacing the bridges over the Gila River, which were built back in the 1960s, and fall well below Interstate standards. When that final 23 mile stretch is completed, all of I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson will be 3 lanes wide each direction.

Great video, Kyle! They just started redoing the Broadway Curve with the AZ Route 143 interchange as well as the widening to three lanes west to AZ Route 85, which is currently in progress.

Thank you! I'm amazed how quickly these videos can become outdated sometimes, especially with how quickly ADOT gets things done. They waste no time in upgrading their freeways. This video is only around 8 months old too. I appreciate your feedback!

Phoenix has changed so much since I was last there in 2010. I am very familiar with the Phoenix area as I learned to drive a Semi-Truck there when I was employed by Swift Transportation, which is headquartered there on 75th Ave. about a mile and a half South of I-10.

Awesome video! It's really neat to get to see a road I go down all the time, almost every day like this. With the fun facts at the bottom and the rocking tunes that feel like they could be on the radio right here, I really appreciate it! I hope you get to keep the music, but if something happens and you have to take it out, this would still be a great video! Keep on it Kyle and watch your oil and engine indicators!

This was interesting to watch, but the first suburb you went thru is Buckeye. Jackrabbit is the last Buckeye exit. The next exit is Perryville. When you head south on Perryville, the left side of the road is Goodyear and the right side is Buckeye.

ADOT built a whole new fwy that never existed ( Loop 202 South Mtn Fwy) in half the time it took CDOT to add a toll lane to a 16 mile stretch of Interstate 25 in Denver. ADOT gets things done.
@InterstateKyle2 жыл бұрын
You hit the nail on the head with that one! CDOT failed to upgrade their freeways before their population exploded. ADOT is still upgrading sections of the Loop 101 and I-17 in the northern parts of the metro as I'm typing this.

It's been over 30 years since I've driven I-10 in Phoenix. One thing that is truly ingrained into my memory was an approximate 1-mile stretch of the westbound in downtown Phoenix where the Arizona Dept of Transportation used as a test section for roadway markings. Across the slow lane was stripes of white and yellow paint. I guess there is no better place to test the durability of highway paints than the slow lane of a busy interstate. Circa 1986.
@dwood78part232 жыл бұрын
OG Road Warrior FreewayJim did a video driving much the same path going Westbound. But this is a big improvement over his original video from yesteryear. It's Amazing how quickly I-10 changes from being a rural (but still busy) 4 lane freeway to an major urban one- & back in a short time. & I agree that I hope ADOT widens I-10 more as it still has lots of traffic after narrowing back to a 4-lane freeway. PS, for some reason, ADOT has an issue with giving their freeways 3 digital Interstate numbers. I-17 & I-19 are the best examples of this along with the "loop" numbered highways.

ADOT also has an issue giving their highways proper mileage...

Great video! I made this drive in 1997, during Spring Break (went to the Pima Air Museum in Tucson, then on to Tombstone), and Phoenix was growing even then. There was talk back then of a freeway along the AZ-85 corridor to connect I-10 and I-8 for Phoenix bypass traffic. Wonder what became of that idea? Once again, excellent choice in music, with two Rock-and-Roll greats. I love Stevie Nicks, either with Fleetwood Mac or solo; and Steve Miller is a fine choice as well.

I live in Chandler. I drive and ride a motorcycle to Tucson a lot on I-10. That 75 mph speed limit is a complete joke. It's more like 95+ Lots of lane changing and swerving. Very dangerous. Nothing but NASCAR wannabes. They need to come down HARD on speeders. I see state troopers parked in the medians, but I don't see them stopping anybody.
@trevorjameson3213 Жыл бұрын
It's the same here in Texas (Dallas area). People regularly driving 100+ and no cops anywhere, ever! Cops are useless these days, their hands are tied legally speaking. They can't pull anyone over because it might be "racist". But this does not apply in Arkansas, the state that is now RED to the core. There are cops everywhere up there, busting speeders constantly. I love it, because it's relaxing to just drive the speed limit and not have to worry about lunatic speeders.
