There are interviews where he's in a good mood in '91, '92, '93 and even the very last (Naardwar), he's in as good a mood as you can be while being abused by Naardwar

This just another example of the fact that these guys were funny as hell. Always a funny remark and some wise crack if they get a stupid question. They also show that they are smart and known how the world is put together. I really identify with what they say about small town mentality as I grew up in a shithole like Aberdeen myself. Man I wish I could have knows they were gonna be around for such a short period. I would call them up and pay to be their roadie, or just follow them around the world. That is my dream.

Kurt, we all miss you.
@rogeriodias9770 Жыл бұрын
For all I know he wanted to be successful with his music (which doesn't necessarily mean becoming mainstream) but ended up getting way more than he ever wished for. Kurt had internal conflicts because he felt like a sellout and, well fame is a bitch, imagine not being able to go anywhere without everyone recognizing you and treating you differently. It's just one of those things you only understand that has a really bad side once you get it..

It's sad to see Kurt openly showing so much contempt for Chad here. Which by the way is the smoking gun death nail of any human relationship. It's kind of rare to see this kind of behavior in a video, the ugly side of human behavior that people usually like to hide, but it makes a perfect example of the point above. It would have been good for Chad to have walked away from the band himself and not tolerated this behavior but who can blame him? They're all so young at the time anyway. In bands, these sorts of dynamics are not uncommon. My feeling is Kurt behaving that way to Chad there was probably a lot of Kurt's insecurities and other emotional issues at the time being wrongly misguided towards chad. I doubt it was simply that Chad's drumming wasn't up to par or whatever they may say. I think Kurt was lashing out at Chad for other reasons that had little to do with Chad and more about Kurt himself.
@canadariots11393 жыл бұрын
An actual lucid and intelligent comment on KZbin? Wow this is rare. But, yeah. i perceived the same things you did. The whole "You're the next to go" line honestly shocked me as an empathetic person. The only way I could rationalize it in my head (As a biased Nirvana fan) is that Kurt and Krist were extremely aware of the conversational dynamic at play and how Chad would often "Contradict" them, maybe they were looking for someone who could assimilate into the group a little better. However, I don't see any of the emotional issues that you are apparently seeing, Kurt seems relatively stable at that moment in time, it was before both his addiction and stardom. What really got me about what Kurt said is that he seemed to have known the leverage and power he held, he also says things such as "it's hip to be environmentalist now isn't it?" and "I learn everything i know on MTV" (The latter probably being in jest.) Which also brings into question the genuineness of a lot of Kurt's positions, almost hinting that it's purely performative. This interview, in the anthology of Nirvana interviews is certainly unique and the most insightful. I wonder what Krist and Chad thought when they first saw this.
@EchoBravo3702 жыл бұрын
I disagree. They are just sparring. And to be fair, when Chad was booted, Kurt and Krist had NO IDEA what was about to happen to them. Dave played on Nevermind. So even though they replaced Chad, at the time, there was always the chance that Chad could have auditioned with and ended up in a bigger band. I mean Jason ended up in Soundgarden.
@sel14142 жыл бұрын
Godd so extra🙄 , and for what? This was nothing about insecurity or whatever, they were clearly joking around, this wasn’t “lashing out” at chad or an ugly side of kurt lol just say you want anything to twist the narrative of it and project your insecurities into kurt
