It is amazing how literary Pierce can be even in conservation, although I think his sense of humor shines the most. When he stated that Simmons must have been struck by lighting in order to have written Hyperion. I was floored by that comment! So happy to hear that Dune & Hyperion are his biggest inspirations. I will start his series soon as well as the rest of F. Herbert ‘s Dune series.

Personal (but worthwhile) anecdote: In 2017, my brother and I ventured to some burrow of Chicago (that I forget the name of) in order to see Pierce Brown give a speech at a particular college/university hall. I myself had not yet read ANY of his books, but I wanted to journey with my brother (who had) nonetheless. When we get to the lobby of some particular lecture hall, my bother immediately b-lined for the restroom (long journey from where we began), and I was left with loitering around the lobby. It wasn't long before I noticed a man sitting on a bench in the middle of the lobby who looked exactly like the guy on the backflap of my brother's so revered "Red Rising" novels. . . I kind of looked at him from 20 ft or so, and he said "who are YOU here for?" And I said to him, "You're the guy on my brother's backflap." I told him that I actually hadn't read his books, but my brother had; but nevertheless, I was enamored with his works due to my brother's reporting. When my brother came back, Pierce told him that he looked like a "Red."

I loved the first three books. But the perspective shift in IRON GOLD deterred me from reading…I love Pierce but I just couldn’t get into that. Maybe I will try again. As a writer myself I use Darrow’s anger for my protagonist in my new series and Pierce you are a inspiration. Raw and gritty is an understatement.

@@Alexander-tu3iv I do love raw and gritty. I write raw and gritty myself but him doing the 4th book and throwing the POV switch bothered me. I didn’t care for those characters.
