I saw your vid about"polarity" and how it was important to the song. While i didn't believe it was so relevant, i tested a kick drum, cloned it, reversed the polarity and played them both at once at c5.... You know what happened? Unbelievable, but there was no sound coming out of the speaker cuz they both were conflicting with each other. Your video on polarity was so eye opening. I do appreciate the valuable info.

Probably the most helpful tool in my arsenal. So many things I work with sound great in stereo, but basically cancels itself out in mono. And sometimes, just one side has weird harsh resonance that I need to dampen without making the whole track sound lofi lol

how can you use mid/side EQ to get around a problem where your sound sounds great in stereo but cancels itself out in mono? Im totally new to mid/side EQ, phase cancellation etc and ive realised that when i put my track in mono certain wide sounds Ive used sound terrible - quiet and ruined, probably due to phase cancellation? but i dont know how to fix that

If there are people that work in FL that cant afford a mid/side eq, in Patcher you can split the signal with the Stereo seperator (preset mid to side) and you can rout that to two instances of parametic eq 2. That way you have a mid eq and a sidr eq.

Hearing the "side" signal on solo and thinking it sounds very spatial, is pure auditive effect, as you are actually hearing a MONO signal, just with the phase inverted in one speaker.

around 9min, the real crux is the subtlety of cutting/boosting in little increments. I like you said for sake of the video, you did more than usual to augment. I discover that most of the time I dont need mid/side, because the flatness or stereo field is better sounding to my ears. Then again, Im still a novice at mixing.

Midside eq is working very nicely with electric guitars in genres like Metal or rock. When guitars are panned left/ right to create a wall of guitars; doing a midside eq then can help to avoid some muddy frequencies of those panned guitars without affecting the instruments in the middle.

How about a simple breakdown of *when to use* linear/natural/dynamic phase / zero latency etc? Dan Worrall has some fantastic videos on the topic but I'm sure I'm in the majority in being uncertain and experiencing counter-intuitive results during different scenarios (mixing/mastering, and also when using fabfilter in long midi-instrument fx/shaping chains)

"Hi. And welcome back." I find it funny that Dan starts every video with that line. In one of his earlier videos, he expressed a profound confusion at actually having gained more subs after posting his previous video-- since it was more or less him venting about improper techniques being shared by KZbinrs with huge channels. He seemed to be having an existential dilemma in whether he wanted to take on the responsibility of becoming a defacto teacher/mentor/role model for others.. personally, I like how jaded and blunt he is when talking about some of the silly practices being used in contemporary productions and the passive-aggressive arguments he gets in with his colleagues. Also the fact that he is so vehemently against doing a face-reveal only adds to the quirkiness of his personality

A bonus is all the extra headroom for a really powerful bass without getting that awful crackling effect when pushing it. This was sure a game changer for me. Even if i mostly produce Phonk, with hard clipped/distorted 808’s it still helps cleaning up for the harmonics to push thru the mix but still being really dirty
