Your last 2 videos have been things I have been processing in my head!! Bundles and kindling bundles. I appreciate the variety of videos. I am a hobbyist but want to eventually do full time. I dont want to borrow $ so To get a few acres for a Woodward, I need to make the most with what I have. My wife thinks I'm crazy because our yard is stacked cords 😆. I work a full-time job and cut firewood in spare time. Your advice has separated me already from others in my area. I always enjoy the opportunity to learn, and thank you for sharing life time of wisdom!!!

I am using sugar maple bark as kindling right now. It falls off and I save it for starting and restarting pit and stove. I also look the for splinters to pull off then save them for starting the wood stove just under the bark scraps. Here in central Ohio 2 chords of hardwood heats us when we are home. Furnace resumes overnight and on work days. Like you say wood is exercise with benefits.

I provide a free 1 cuft mesh bag of kindling with every face cord purchase. My customers love it for starting their fires and I write my name and phone number on the bag which functions as a business card. The kindling primarily comes from splitting with multiple wedges on the splitter. I also make kindling out of less desirable softer firewood. Have tried selling it as an add on, but not much action.
@JesseLJohnson4 сағат бұрын
I have sold some kindling before. Its usually just the small scraps that come off the splitter but I have been getting the bundles of slabs and scraps from mills and some of that stuff is pretty small and perfect for kindling once you cut it. I have seen people using the slabs and running it through a table saw to make it inch wide pieces. I have never done that but I have stacked a bunch of it up on the splitter and ran it through. Probably should have got more slabs and scraps. Last trip I got some real big cherry slabs that were 4-8 inches thick. If you are making kindling its a whole lot easier to get those small slabs and scraps from a mill since a lot of it is already kindling size to begin with just needs to be cut to 16 inch.

We do kindling and we do make it. It’s a popular add on at our firewood stand. I use all pine so it splits easy. You can make a ton of it fast with a vertical machine! For us it’s just an added perk to make our firewood stand more appealing than buying from the convenience stores. Take care Chris👍🏻👍🏻GNI

My biggest question is whether the kindling easily start the fire. I’ve tried making it from the slash that I get from Aspen. It doesn’t want to light that easy. It’s been sitting out for since May in IBC tote bladders. I have Spruce and Doug Fir slash available. Haven’t tried those as of yet. I have been using pine recently. It has worked very well. It only takes five seconds to light.

As a buyer of firewood, I've found that you can't really fit a whole face cord in a normal, 6ft. bed.. Maybe an 8 ft. bed. I don't know how many times I've paid for a face cord and they show up with a 6ft. bed level and after stacking it's never a full face cord.. If it's a 6ft bed it must be a heaping load to be close.
@InTheWoodyard23 сағат бұрын
It depends on the depth and how high the pile is....also most trucks are not 6 1/2 foot now they are 5 1/2 foot makes a big difference. Mine is always MORE than a face cord.
@alfredutri407118 сағат бұрын
@@InTheWoodyard Remember it is volume measurement not just a linear surface measure. If most pieces thrown in are 17-18-19 inches long you may be getting the honest volume measure, but when stacked it would not be the surface measure of 4'' x 8'.

I pick up all the 16” long slivers and bundle them for the standard $5 a bundle. Generally have 3-5 IBC totes worth throughout the year. I haven’t figured out the forces at play when selling in the firewood stand. Sometimes all the standard bundles sell first. Other times there is a run on the kindling. I collected all of this and decided to bag it in 10 lb mesh bags. I offered this as a "gift" to buyers of my wood and my customers really appreciated it. Red Alder is light and starts easily so it makes great fire-starter material. Very windy and rainy in Pacific NW (Vancouver, WA). I don’t specifically sell kindling. I save the small pieces and include them into my bundles so the user can use them to start their fire if needed. I also make fire starters with wax and dryer lint but couldn’t sell them either.

Maybe ask the customers how many bundles of kindling they want with there delivery of wood???

I don't sell firewood but I took down some cedar split rail fence and made a few kindling bundles. I took some to our rental cabins for guests to get campfires started with and I put some in our house for starting fires in our wood stove. People really use it. I bet it would sell well. Even my wife said "I like those little pieces for getting my fires started"

Yup, that sounds good..so you are saying your wife like the small wood??

If you burn wood kindling is a must have, unless you’re using an asphalt burner to light the fire with.

I make my own kindling out of red pine. I cut the rounds to 12” and produce small bags of kindling for my roadside stand. Nice add on, may also start including in my bundles.

I make my own kindling. Usually use the spruce for that. Split it into narrow pieces then split into small pieces. Works great but yea time consuming but is for my own use.

I think kindling is a good idea, if people are buying firewood they may not have a good way to get it started!!

Yup, I think you got something there!

I don’t sell kindling but lighter pine (fat wood) is in big demand and could sell it with every delivery. Hard enough to find enough for myself. Fun show as always thanks.
@InTheWoodyard10 сағат бұрын
I have been thinking about that myself for selling too.

Ive sold 640 bags of kindling so far this year. The majority of my kindling is pine that I make from my sawmill slabs. They are 12 inches long by 1 inch wide and 1 inch thick. Located in Central Maine.
