The 1999-2002 Suzuki SV650 was the first budget motorcycle platform upgraded en masse by using "surrogate" parts, suspension bits from other motorcycle brands & models. 'Twas the internet made it possible, despite the dot com crash, by shrinking the world into a local market of info & parts every SV650 owner could access.

If you have the opportunity, have Dave tune your suspension. My bike has never, ever, felt as good as after having him adjust my suspension. It will shave seconds off your track time. Before he tuned my suspension, I was riding and compensating for what I thought was just how my bike felt. Afterwards it makes the bike feel so much more telepathic. It goes where I want it to and does exactly what I tell it to.

A ZZR1400 shock fits into the SV650 too. I mean it fits into the 2003 version. I'm not sure if it fits into the 1999 version.

It does, you need to cut slightly into battery box.

The preload adjusters on that last SV are all the way out. Wouldn’t that contribute to the problem?

If the internal mathematics were incorrect , it could help down the road as the rider skills develop. It can of course contribute if the spring spacer length combined is incorrect.

The biggest issue is the triple clamps/yokes. Get that sorted first. Then you will choose the front end that fits from forks, wheel and brakes.
