Cheers, This is serving really useful! Coming from unity, everything is so alien so it's nice to have access to a series before delving right into the Documentation!

why is my material shows up like a two sided texture? I mean when I look in front of it, it shows as normal but near, its like... a " | " or invisible...

Can this particle effect be applied to guns like those shooting out lazers if so, how would you go about doing it ?
@DavidL1234 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for the great tutorial. I'm having an issue where the ribbons are losing the info of which particle they're spawning from and moving to another particle, creating lines in between the different emitters. How do I fix this?

This looks awesome! :D

But how do you get the initial 0,0,0 point to attach to the first ribbon point, else you're stuck with the same flicker of new segments that you get at the end?

Using 4.27, the ribbons don't appear at all, I set the source emitter name, then for the ribbon emitter the ribbondatatype, source method+name.

I can't get the particles to fade using Color Over Life. They're always jaggy and popping out, no fade. And it looks like even in this vid only the first dozen or so particles fade properly, the rest are jaggy and popping as well.
@heasmo9 жыл бұрын
The ends of the trails do not fade out to zero consistently - some have completely hard edges and do not fade at all - anybody got any idea why?
@Visualcodex19 жыл бұрын
Richard Heasman My guess is that happens when the pool runs out of particles. Ways to alleviate this is reduce life time of ribbons. With ribbons it's either best to have them on very short life times if you have a lot. Or have very few on long life time. Another way to resolve this, in your ribbon material: add a texture coordinate node set on 1 (this forces the UV along the whole ribbon), connect that texture coordinate through a mask, only R enabled, connect through 1-X (hotkey O), Optional connect to Power set on 2(hotkey E). You multiply this one with any previous nodes that goes in alpha. I find this works really well.

Is there a way to have the tail of the ribbon taper? I tried a 'Size by Life' module [In=1 Out=0] but it doesn't seem to have any affect. The alpha doesn't appear to work very well (even the tutorial's ribbons appear clipped). Thoughts?

The initial source has to have a velocity for it to apply to the particle. If you are attaching it to an orbiting particle, you won't see it. I'm trying to figure out how to attach it correctly.

I just discovered this myself, it was so frustrating that it didn't work :( Have you found a solution for this problem?

No, not yet. I haven't returned to working on FX for my own project for some time.

Hello this is really awesome. But when I try to make the SourceRibbon orbit the trail disapear. Do you have any clues for me ???
@Sluggernaut10 жыл бұрын
It appears that Size By Speed is broken in 4.5 if you dont have your emitter set as a GPU emitter. So do that and you will see that Acceleration is gone. Delete it and add Constant Acceleration. Basically the same module.
@ItsTheCoffeeKnight10 жыл бұрын
Is there a shader set up already that creates that illuminating effect on those? I made the materials and the particles but they have no level of glow like in the video. They have just basic colors. Your "flaming pieces of rice" have that glow around them, but when I do it they're just a matte red.
@freakdragon11610 жыл бұрын
Your colors need to be set to a value much higher than 1, but currently in 4.6.1 there's a bug where you can't set your values above one, so instead you have to modify them in the graph editor.
@GTAWiseGuy10 жыл бұрын
freakdragon116 How would you adjust the colour value in a graph?
@freakdragon11610 жыл бұрын
GTA Wise Guy Typically color values would be input by simply typing in your desired RGB values, but in the graph editor, you can manually adjust your values by moving them along a graph in the X axis. I don't usually use the graph editor but considering values higher than 1 can't be input by typing it in, I have to resort to the graph editor instead. I normally use the graph for a smooth transition between various colors in an emitter.

My ribbons are not spawning from my particles. In the preview it looks fine but when i place it in the world the ribbons spawn from 0,0 orgin, rather than from my particles. Even if i move the particles system the ribbons still come from the origin. the ribbons even move as if they were bumping into walls and floors. Help. version 4.6. Thanks!

I don't know what it is but no matter how closely I follow these videos, something does not work right. For this one on particular, it is the trails. They do not show up. I redid this entire tutorial twice and the trails simply wont show up.

It seems like they're not spawning when I'm not looking at it. I have these ribbons behind my spaceships, tracking their path, but when I turn around I see them stretched out a very long way in a straight line across the screen, then they fade away after a few seconds as they should. Anyone know how to fix this?

I have to ask because its now starting to annoy me, my colors are really dull compared to yours, yours seem to almost glow neon and mine are just the color! WHY!?
@QuilavaKing10 жыл бұрын
The higher you set the color value, the more intensely it will glow. 100,100,100 is the same color as 1,1,1, but will glow super bright.
@Toesty510 жыл бұрын
So, in the current version of UE4 they give you the option to just choose the color, instead of inputting values for R, G, and B. This doesn't let you put RGB values over 1.0, which is what makes them glow. Just press the dropdown triangle next to the color bar, and input numbers greater than 1.0! The higher the number is past 1.0, the more it glows.

These tutorials are really useful but I wish you'd slow down a bit instead of hurrying through - you often breeze over or completely miss mentioning important steps that I have to go back and re-watch multiple times to spot. It's incredibly frustrating when having the video be a couple of minutes longer to make sure you don't rush through things would not be a big issue

Just rewatch it. Or go over the whole series. I first tried to just watch this sole video and got lost and frustrated, decided to go over all the series replicating the examples AFTER watching the videos and boom, everything was a lot easier.
