Hahaha. In my experience with intuitive eating sometimes you have to keep hitting that maybe overly full feeling until you can start tapering down to that satisfied feeling. It’s okay to be overly full intuitive eating isn’t about control it’s about curiosity and feeling these feelings of hunger and fullness with a new perspective.

getting enough exercise and sleep can help with this. Also, are you letting yourself eat as many sweets as you want? I know that when I let myself eat as many chocolate chip cookies (my favorite dessert) as I want, I over ear much less. I also don't gorge on cookies because I trust myself that I can have more whenever I want.

Becca, thank you so much for posting this. I know I can’t impose my will on other people but I’m sending this to my mom! Lol. I’ve been eating intuitively for 3 months and have lost 30 lbs! I eat pasta, breakfast burritos, cheeseburgers, honestly anything I’m craving. The difference is that I stop eating when my body says to! Take home leftovers, never feel obligated to “clean your plate.” And yes I still crave healthy foods like Greek yogurt and salads. It’s all about balance and listening to your body’s signals. THIS HAS CHANGED MY LIFE BECCA! Thank you for introducing me. Also, please do a series on intuitive eating.

I lost 50 pound last year due to intuitive eating! I found it easier than some would because I am living away from home for university, so I don't sit down for meals with my family like I did every night back at home or have scheduled lunch breaks at work- but to some extent I think anyone could make it work. In a nutshell, I ate when I was hungry and didn't eat when I wasn't. Sometimes I would crave dinner at 3pm (I usually eat at 5:30pm), so I would eat it at 3pm. Previously I would have probably eaten a snack equivalent to the caloric intake my body was looking for, and then still eaten my dinner later on. Overall- the rule I removed was timing of food. I still had some rules since I am vegan and therefore won't just eat anything, however other than that, I seemed to only want healthy food 90% of the time anyway. It probably won't work for everyone, but it did for me so I recommend giving it a try if you can!

So I've been watching you for a couple months now and I need you to know that you have absolutely changed my life.... I have a long, complicated weight loss story, but in a nutshell, I lost over 60 lbs about 4 years ago. No surgeries. No pills. I just did it. But ever since then I've been convinced I needed to lose more. It's been an obsession. I'm currently 165 and I keep telling myself I need to lose 20 more pounds... just 20 more pounds... it's sickening how much I've dwelt on this. But since I've started watching you, not only have I prayed about this and feel like God is working on me with this whole situation, but you have helped me learn how to change the way I think about my body. I just wanted you to know that! You are amazing and I love your videos!!! You've helped me understand that being healthy is the ultimate goal!! Thank you so much!!!!

Hey Becca I'm doing an update on my intuitive eating journey while pregnant 🤰 ... I'm 12 weeks today. my weight was 189 I'm not doing this exactly to lose weight but to eat healthier and be healthier. I also read the book intuitive eating by Evelyn tribole. It seems so easy but it actually is not. It's hard to listen to your body when your used to never being connected to your mind and body. So the first couple of weeks was really hard. It still is but I'm doing a lot better. My pregnancy has been going really good, no nausia, hardly any heartburn, no dizziness or anything at all... I am at 183 and feel a lot better. Will keep you updated and thank you for introducing me to intuitive eating.

Feeling good and enjoying food as well. There is still a lot i have to learn and change but this is my journey and will focus more after pregnancy. No diets , eating healthier for me and baby thanks 😘 for your videos

I think an added part of intuitive eating that has helped me is focusing how you feel after you eat different foods. Some foods make me feed sick, Some foods give me indigestion, or gas, some foods I eat I just feel too full or just overall bad. That is also our bodies sending us cues that whatever we are eating is not ideal for our body. I have just overall avoided foods that I know make me feel bad after I eat them (dairy and high fat or sugar pastries). I also try to avoid acidic foods. When I say Avoid I just mean limit or small amounts. Even then I don't fully restrict myself.

Yes yes yes! Your videos are seriously so helpful and kick my butt into gear to remember why I am on the journey I am. Kind of made me sad to read comments below about certain programs not being a diet when they are controlling what and how much you eat. Intuitive eating, like you said, is not at all restrictive with the amount or type of food. It breaks my heart when people fully don't understand intuitive eating, but hopefully this video and other like it will begin to shed some light into their life!

I've read a book about intuitive eating and it was a revelation...unfortunately it has a crap name: Don't Go Hungry Diet...but it's not about dieting and you can adjust it to suit yourself. I really love the idea of intuitive eating, but like a lot of other people in the comments I feel as though its easy to listen to the "eat what you want" part and not hear the "intuitive" part. So my question is, how do we go about incorporating more healthy options while also avoiding the creation of "rules"? Perhaps you could talk more about the intuition and thought process that goes into deciding what to eat? And where to draw a line when I want to order pizza every night of the week? As always, thank you for your informative and well balanced videos, it's wonderful that a professional such as yourself is providing so much free information to us :)

What Bryana said! Sometimes it just takes self control (I know it’s hard!) to train your brain to not want the refined sugar, but instead reach for fruit. It’s not going to be an over-night thing, but trust me, from someone who used to eat Canes almost every night, and now I rarely eat out, you can do it! Baby steps 😊 I’d say just start by looking up healthier recipes of the foods you love.

Sarah Villines I know you're right. I went through a period of eating really healthily and I started craving healthy foods. I definitely wasn't eating balanced though and didn't allow myself to eat any junk food. The moment I started allowing myself to have sweet occasionally I began to crave them all the time and the healthy food didn't taste as good anymore. I just can't seem to figure out how to eat a balance of both.

What you said about diets not working really hit home because the last time I did a calorie restriction diet I developed some seriously disordered eating patterns (and had no energy, was constantly cold and very irritable ) and went from the upper range of healthy weight (not even the overweight category yet) to being underweight and I started realizing body dismorphia setting in. Then I started doing intuitive eating and now I am back at a healthy weight

Hi, I’m a fan and no hate but diets do work it’s just a matter of sticking with them- like you said though, some are just so stupid and ridiculous, by bashing all diets? Because like me, I’m trying to build muscle in a very specific place so I do have to watch white carbs but take quite enough to build, and have a lower fat intake hence why I’m doing a high carb low fat “diet”. But a lot of ppl seem to use intuitive eating and like it very much and that’s great to 😁

i intuitively ate today. i listened to my body when it wanted sugary things, and then later found that it wanted vegetables so i had a lovely soup because i wanted it, not to be hEalThy. your body knows what you need, and will tell you. trust it. it may want something ‘unhealthy’ or ‘high carb’ but that’s because that’s what you need at that moment, and who knows, you could want vegetables later on.

However, I always have this question in the back of my mind when it comes to "body's genetically built ideal weight". I've been overweight my whole life due to a long period of unhealthy lifestyle (i.e. starting from eating 4 meals a day since 2.5 years old). It is hard for me to know what that "ideal weight" is, and whether that "ideal weight" has already been altered by the long time unhealthy lifestyle. I certainly lost some weight and am continuing losing weight due to intuitive eating and exercising. But I don't have any source to really know what my body's healthy/ideal/genetically built body range is. What's your thought on this? Would you please explain more on this concept of "weight" within the intuitive eating method? Thank you.

I struggle a lot with getting started on this, because despite saying to myself I am allowed everything, I will have to actively stop myself from always choosing the low calorie options. Seriously how long until I finally stop this, because it's really frustrating to realize how much I focus on calories and then not have any idea how to stop doing that

With all due respect, because I love your channel, but this video didn’t explain much. I’m currently in 10:21 and all you mentioned was “This is NOT a diet” (which let’s be real- as you said, everyone on the internet promotes it as that. Diet isn’t even a bad word- it just gained a bad reputation. Diet literally means your eating pattern. Also, you mentioned “food cues” which I really liked the idea of!! But you didn’t expand on them. How can I understand them? You also didn’t take into account stress and Hormones, which makes me think of myself as a college student, and my sisters who have hormonal imbalances. They can’t listen to their body- because their body is telling them to eat sugar. When I’m stressed, my body is telling me to store nutrients and sugar in case I don’t eat again for whatever reason. How are women like us, who realistically are the majority of women, listen to these cues that you’re explaining?

chunkymonkey9097 The way our society generally uses the word diet means 'restrictive plan for weight loss' though. Also this video was just an intro to IE, i think Becca is doing more so will expand on it. ☺

chunkymonkey9097 hormone imbalances are no joke especially diagnosed ones. I’m in school too so I get the stress hormones kicking in at high gear. What’s worked for me to keep me on track with intuitive eating is better coping skills that focus on making sure stress isn’t an issue. Stress in necessary in moderation but when stress comes from your body thinking it’s not going to get another meal on a long time or from being overwhelmed from school. Those are stresses you can have some control over. Once stress levels out so do the stress hormones. External stress is all perspective right, what stresses you maybe won’t stress me so it’s important to make sure you have ways that work best for you to maintain a “comfortable” for lack of better work amount of stress.

I love your videos and truly look up to you for inspiration, but as a teenage girl I can’t help but worry about appearance. I feel like it’s easy for someone who’s skinny and beautiful to say “eat intuitively” but when I eat what makes me happy (which is healthy food but sometimes unhealthy foods) I gain weight. It gets discouraging. I have lost 14 pounds and I’m at a healthy weight for my height. I have been counting calories and macros for almost a year and I don’t know if it is good or bad. And I also don’t know how to stop. I’m not unhappy with the food I eat or the amount that I consume (I can’t go hungry I get very light headed and irritable if I am) I’m just stuck between a rock and a hard place. What I want, what society wants, what my parents what, what others want. I indulge in foods sometimes but most of the time I am saying things like “I can’t have that”. I don’t know if that’s self control or if that is not good for my body. The whole thing is confusing and very difficult. I never thought about my weight until two years ago. I saw a picture myself in a bikini and thought “who is that” I was 14 pounds heavier than now. Even when I was a size 00 I was unhappy with my body. I like to think I’m happy now but if that involves counting calories and macros I’m not so sure after watching this video. I’d love your help. Thanks Becca❤️

Shannon whatever works for you! but it won't feel like you're in between a rock and a hard place if you're doing it out of genuine love and appreciation for your body. if you decided to lose weight because you loved your body, for yourself, and the way you did that was to count calories/macros - it wouldn't feel bad. it wouldn't feel restrictive. it would feel like GAINING HEALTH instead of LOSING out on something. so just sit and think hard about why you want to lose weight; your motivations for doing certain things; why it might be bad for the thing you fear the most to come into fruition and, in your head, face that head-on. then you can unravel all that's going on in your mind and your answers, what's right for YOU, will come to you by and by. good luck, and hope that helps xx

Wow I so needed this video Becca, thank you thank you so much for making these types of videos and for sticking to what you believe in b.c. it totally keeps me on the right, healthy track! I was totally getting sucked into the New Year's diet goals and this video graciously reminded me to ignore all that and keep on an intuitive eating journey. Definitely please cont. the intuitive eating videos, tips, info 😆

Don’t you need a certain amount of calories a day for your body to function properly? And how do you make sure you get enough fruits and veggies if you just eat whatever you want? I really want to learn more about intuitive eating :) xoxo

I love this...although I am overweight it is because I am lazy. Once I get my body moving I start to drop the weight without changing what I am eating or drinking. I still want healthy foods, but since I changed jobs and have a more sedetary job I need to move more...and I just don't want to join a gym. I had a treadmill and would use it faithfully, I just need to get another one and get back in the saddle!

I love this! For me though I still need to watch my portions and I do know that if I don’t have the junk in the house that I know I will binge eat I am a much better eater. I hate that weight watchers commercial and don’t believe in it. I am 54 and it has been tough because I am in menopause. I have dieted all my life! It worked once and I was even in magazines and books for the one diet I did and then menopause hit and I was back to my old habits. I do need healthier ideas so when I am hungry I have healthier alternatives to my favorite things. I grew up in a household that we ate everything and anything all day long and had to get that under control. I do need to lose some weight now because my doctor told me that I am borderline high cholesterol.
