People diss in the comments but they don't know how much you can appreciate a notebook that does layers and syncs to the cloud, or that erases without smudging or tearing the page. Plus, I write stuff down more because I don't need another physical notebook to keep notes separate. reMarkable 1 was a great tool for me. I'll be picking up the Gen2 and passing the Gen1 on for someone else to appreciate.

I've been deeply impressed by Remarkable's hardware from the first one, being a huge fan of e-ink technology. However, Remarkable's largest weakness for me was the UI, which was pretty bare bones. I the ability to search and organize files wasn't as robust and to-the-point as other tablets (drag+drop vs clicking thru dropdown menus, tagging files, etc). There were also little things like not being able to highlight text in a straight line that could have greatly increased quality of life. I also wish there was more options to customize, like being able to import your own page template or adjust the size of your file icons, or having a "desktop" to arrange your files on, etc. These are small issues that feel bigger when you pay $500. . Also, the UI design is quite bland - I wish it was a bit stylized to give some character. It can still be simple, but even a slight ink texture on the icon grid and architectural sketch-like icons can elevate the look from Star Trek data pad to leather bound bujo journal. So much work is going on at the back end to make a screen look like paper, that to not to have the same dedication on the front end to make an immersive paper experience feels a bit like stumbling near the finish line. . I am so excited about the advances Remarkable and e-ink technology is making, I just hope that more than just the hardware improves.

Technology is available that is far more impressive than electronic ink and paper; things that actually save people's lives and / or provide shelter and sustenance to poverty stricken lands but this elicits the comment "what a time to be alive" . . . So I'm going to go ahead and say that yes, it's decent tech (and I've been an IS/IT pro for over 35 years now), but seriously giving a side-eyed glance hard at your priorities. Far more impressive is the development by a man I served with in the Navy, (now Doctor) John A. Viator who has developed a method of early detection of cancer acoustically by use of a laser. And that paper was published in 2009. The Viator Institute has made additional inroads since. So yes, (to quote the musical Hamilton) look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now.

I am seeing a lot of skeptics in the comments, so I just want to share my experience with the V1: First of all, don't worry about the latency. Even on the old model, It's completely imperceptible unless you're looking for it. Now, students: Gather up all your textbooks, notebooks, scratch paper, binders, etc, etc etc. Now imagine never having to carry any of it ever again. That alone made it worth it for me. Also, the capability of having many different notebooks and textbooks means that you won't be doing any page-flipping, because everything for every class/project will be right where you left it. Writing on a screen is pretty nice too. You'll never have to worry about eraser dust, warping/tearing/wrinkling pages, or smearing. You'll never again have to fold the back cover of your notebook over so it fits on the fold-out lecture hall desk. There are no "back pages" where you're writing on the other side of what you wrote. There are numerous other minor annoyances in my life that are all gone now. Granted, you don't have to charge paper. However, I use my V1 6-8 hours every day and I only have to charge it 2 or 3 times per week. You won't need to worry about running out of batteries. The software isn't perfect, and I do have some gripes about the marker, but from this video it looks like they fixed a lot of that. One last note: for people who don't want to deal with all the cloud-sync, make an account, use our app silliness, they have a mode to transfer files to and from the tablet over USB. I rarely if ever even turn on the WiFi.

Jousboxx Bruh there’s so many things that are sad about this comment. First off I could get a 5 subject notebook and 1 binder with scratch paper and that would be enough for 5 courses in college and is not even that heavy. The fact that carrying a few items is that bad that it makes you willing to shell out 400 dollars for a glorified notebook is overblown. Also, many textbooks are on online platforms which this thing can’t even access. On top of that, some books are only available in physical versions. Some classes, like my literature class, also require you to have a physical copy of the book, which means you can’t use this anyway. Again, a lot of these so called “issues” are so trivial and overblown. Eraser dust and folding the back cover of your notebook is really that bad? It’s laughable and seriously comes from a place of having wealth. Students usually can’t afford this, and if they could, it’s irresponsible of you to tell them to waste their money on something a 5 subject notebook could do for 5 bucks. Not to mention the complete lack of features that make it so limited. You’re better off buying an iPad and putting it on airplane mode if it’s sooo distracting. Jesus you seem soft.

Kid _ you seem harsh. You missed the point pal Use normal pen and Paper. You are right it’s a lot cheaper. So let’s throw that discussion away. Swhoosh You want a digital device to take notes and draw and use benefits as layers. Perfect erasing. Notes to text conversion. Ok you have two options. A device like remarkable or a iPad type IPad have a lot of nice other features. That you don’t want or need so throw those out of the discussion. Schwwosh You then have two digital note taking devices because that is what you do a lot at work. iPad have colors. And is a lot quicker in filling on big areas and move and transform drawings. Remarkable have better papers feeling and writing experience. And easier on the eye. And works in sunlight. And have longer battery life. And is lighter. There is both devices strength. Price you can get away with almost the same. Chose which on you prefer to use for note taking.

Pair that with one of the slowest processors and massive lag when writing on something thast is not completely white makes it one of the worst experiences you can get on the ereader market. I mean yeah its great and all, but considering the price these guys charge for that, you only get a simple (not even accurate) drawing tablet with shitty file menagement, no properly working internet connection, that cant even go online, not because they want it to be "disstraction free" but just because it is absolutely slow.(btw if you look at the pdf files created on this device, they dont look nearly as good on a reagular screen as on the tablet. low resolution and no antialiasing)

When will reMarkable have proper OCR? By that I mean the ability to search through my notes to search for a particular word. I don't want writing to text conversion - if I need text I will type in the first place. Context: I bought reMarkable v1 in the first pre-order and have since barely ever used paper. I use it every day and have hundreds or thousands of pages of notes. The one feature I need is to search the device to find any time I have written about . So far 3/4 of our executive team have bought reMarkables since I started at the company with mine. The constant "complaint" is that this feature does not exist - indeed the remaining 1/4 have said they would get one if it had this feature. Please just say something about it - I would be willing to pay monthly to get this feature (as I know it would use computing resources to make it possible).

I have been a customer since day one. When I saw that it let you focus without distraction, and with the real paper feel, my soul needed it like daily bread. I am using it for work, for poetry and for my phd researcg. I thank the entire company for empowering me to see further in the unknown to bring humanity further understanding. Thank you all.

This is the main problem for me: When I have real paper... I want to be able to treat it "badly": I want to be able to fold it, crumble it, stack it, and eventually... see the dust that gets collected on it, and then finally, recycle it. There's something ephemeral about a sheet of paper, the "disposability" of it... that's very important. I KNOW I'm just drafting loose ideas and am married to none... I know none of them are going to be the final product. When you have a product like this... it does neither "the draft" phrase or "the final phrase" very well.

This can revolutionalize things! Imagine the paper saved and hence trees saved. A step toward greener future.

That's not true (at least at the moment). You need to factorize in the materials of producing such a device and all associated costs. So far paper is still by far the greener choice.

It's always funny to see people talk about "saving paper" but never saving trees from building supplies. Where do you think boards come from? Paper comes from pulp made from the wood chips after boards are cut from trees…
@MR-jm3hj
@MR-jm3hj 4 жыл бұрын
1) Trees used for paper production are purposely planted and cut, so you're literally not going to save a single tree. 2) Do you really think that a silicium or aluminium mine pollute less than a paper factory?
