I loved these first two episodes of Season 4! Love the length, and more fun! I have been thinking about knitting a top, but wanted one for Spring in the Midwest (keep in mind that here in NW Missouri we hit 67 degrees today, so cotton or bamboo was in my mind). Then decided to KZbin before I headed to bed and viola! Perfect knit along! Jumped right onto Craftsy and ordered my kit in Thistle. I am so excited about this KAL. And thank you for the preview of the techniques and thoughts about possible alterations. I definitely like the idea of the sleeve down to my elbow, and making it a bit longer. Thank you, ladies.

So guess who's waiting for their kit to come in the mail??! This girl! Because of these two lovely ladies, I just purchased my very first knitting kit ever, and will be involved in my very first KAL ever! I'm so excited, thus the exclamation points after every sentence. Heehee! I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait!!! I just looked at the shipping updates and sadly the delivery has been pushed out a day 😔. So I'm a little anxious as I'm further behind than everyone else here, and this will be my first project where I'll really be paying attention to gauge, etc. I'm interested in making this a little less baggy than I've seen in many of the pics I've viewed, so I'm not sure where to go for advice on that (I haven't viewed any of the other KAL videos yet so not sure if this has been addressed already)... I'm super excited to see the yarn as this will be only my second purchase of yarn that I haven't gotten from a big box store... You ladies crack me up - never knitted with cotton before? I’ve been using cotton and bamboo and non-wool yarns forever. Okay, until recently I’ve been a crocheter, but the choice of yarn is pretty much the same, and my issue has always been sensitivity to wool, so I have no real choice. But the way you carry on, one would think that only wool lovers can be knitters!

bought this kit a handful of years ago and finally started knitting it. I'm currently on Row 2 of the right shoulder (first time) and am slightly stuck on the beginning of the row where you S12PWWYIF and then purl 2. This leaves the working yarn back at the beginning of the row so when I purl 2 do I carry the yarn along on the back side of the work as if I was doing color work? It seems like a rather long distance to carry the working yarn so I wanted to make sure this was correct before going on and then having to tink back if that was not correct. Thx~Mari

Yes... you can not work as many decreases for the back neckline shaping, that will keep it higher up. This construction is SUPER easy to modify to your body!

Hello. I am making this sweater and I am on p4. The last line states repeat these 2 rows until a total of 18 ( for my size) repeats of the chevron sleeve pattern have been worked from the sleeve cast on edge. Does this mean we subtract the chevron repeats we have previously done. Which for my size would be 8 + the first one and the set up row for the shoulder which would mean 8 more.

Hello, Thanks for the question. Yes, the knitter should do the repeat instruction until there are 18 rows total, including however many rows of the chevron pattern they have worked to that point. They are on the right track. Hope this helps! - Hannah Rose

My mother bought this kit and attempted this project. Called me in tears and asked if I could give it a go. Over the past year, I have attempted this 4 times and never gotten farther than a few rows past the split neckline without having major problems. First of all, this is not a good yarn to work with. The stitches look twisted and "wonky". Size 4 needles are too large to match the gauge and you will need to go down 1-2 sizes on the needles. If you attempt this project, make sure you are putting in frequent life lines and counting rows with markers. You are knitting with 2 balls of yarn for most of the pattern and you might get them twisted up as I did. Good luck if you try this project-I GIVE UP.

I have tried to get the gauge and can't seem to get the row and stitch right. How do i get this to work? I have not blocked it i thought i would get close before I blocked it. Is the rows going to change a lot when blocked? I am getting 21 stitches and only 25 rows on size 4 needles. I went smaller needle and did not change much. On size 3 I get 22 stitches and 28 rows. Still not 32 rows. What do i change? Please I need some help before I start.

I'd like the gals to respond, too, but I can tell you that I blocked my swatch as recommended (wet it and once it's almost dry, hang it sideways from the edge of the ironing board with a light weight -- I used a couple of binder clips) and the numbers improved quite a bit. I knit continental style and maybe that's why my stitches tend to be more oval shaped (i.e., longer). The slight stretching rounds them off so there are more rows per inch. I'm at 30.5 rows and 20.5 stitches on size 4, which I think is probably close enough. I might do another swatch on size 3, but at some point you start using up all your yarn on swatches....

I never got a reply or help. I ended up going to purchase new set of Chi Goo needles and I am using a size 2 needle and I get 21 stitches and 31 rows. Don't ask me why it changed but I am half way thru my sweater now. It is a fun sweater. Thanks for your reply Glad to know I am not the only one with a problem.

I am always afraid to do a gauge swatch because I don’t want to run out of yarn, does that make sense? Do you usually get enough yarn in a kit to make a gauge swatch and knit your sweater?

Yarn quantities are "usually" figured at about 15% more than what the pattern actually needs so you should be good to knit your swatch and sweater, too! If you need the yarn, you can always unravel and knit from the swatch. Swatching is important if it is something you want to fit properly. ;-)

I'm currently on Row 2 of the right shoulder (first time) and am slightly stuck on the beginning of the row where you S12PWWYIF and then purl 2. This leaves the working yarn back at the beginning of the row so when I purl 2 do I carry the yarn along on the back side of the work as if I was doing color work? It seems like a rather long distance to carry the working yarn so I wanted to make sure this was correct before going on and then having to tink back if that was not correct. Thx~Marie
