Family can’t help him financially I understand that but to let him live outside be homeless now that I don’t get. How can you sleep at night knowing your family is out like that and in the health he is in? Sad very sad.

It is so weird to hear Americans say things like it's understandable that Workmen's Comp or insurance companies or businesses don't want to cover them when they have medical problems. People in other countries don't think that way and don't put up with that shit. The US needs universal healthcare based on need like a lot of other countries have. This guy wouldn't be on the streets if the US had that.

I respect Richard for what he said in this video. Many times people with money complain about what they don't have instead of appreciating what they do have. Richard accepts what is thrown at him and handles it; even while he is HOMELESS! You can learn a lot from him. I am praying for you Richard as well as all the other homeless individuals.

@springrealty Do you have any idea how difficult it is the get a job under his circumstances. No phone, transportation other than feet, computer access, I.D., and his physical status. He is nearly hopeless. It would take him at least an entire 2 months get on track.

As a musician myself, I find this video extremely depressing. I would reallly like to help this guy out and make his "dreams" to come true. I would actually like to play music with him if I had the chance :( I mean, Just because your homeless doesn't mean you are talentless. This man is just inspiring, Despite his situations, this man has the perfect attitude. Wow I wish I can help him out. Thats what life is all about.

good attitude, that's all that matters. everyone goes through shit, but it is all about how you percieve life. I hat to say, but happiness comes from within, not from things material. sorry about the cliche' but it's absolute truth.

@Uhmsters I e-mailed Mark, I think all his video's are great, but feel he should add info, so we can all do more than just sit here and watch the video's, but actually help these people. I found this guy truly inpirational too, and deserves a lot more...seems like a good person!

I slept in the woods on federal land in my bivouac tent for several months one summer when homeless. I placed it under a large pine tree that had low sweeping branches, which both hid and protected me from occasional storms and critters. During that time, I never once heard or seen any cops or sheriffs searching for vagrants. I was sleeping there at night and working at a temp agency during the day. This enabled me to save $8,000 for an apartment.

Yeah I met this guy. He asked me for $20 to get some cough medicine. All I could spare was $10. So he says I guess I'll have to get the half-pint, ah I mean the junior size. So in other words I got took. So then he starts telling me that he was working on the B&O railroad in WV, back in the early 60's and he saw a train barreling down on this baby that was on the track, and he rushed up and flung it out of the way just in the nick of time. He claims that's how he got a game leg. Then he tells me that the baby grew up to become a president of a super market chain. And that the kid he saved never even thanked him. And he has been broke all these years. I figured he was trying to con me for some more booze money so I quick got the hell out of there.

This is all due to wealthy people who take for granted air conditioning and groceries. An M16a4 costs $586 plus the cost of ammunition. That could pay this mans rent for a month. So take every person in the US military (2,200,000 approx.) and their guns and you get $1,289,200,000 toward homeless funding plus much more funding towards the military. Think about it. This could feed a lot of homeless people.

I think someone should make a documentary about Richard and he could talk and play some songs.Hell,..... get me a camera and I'll interview him in the morning ! This guy walks the walk.........it's not just some theory he spouts about as he sits in his club chair by the fireplace library. He should be sick and bitter but he's well and better ?? Or maybe that's just....... " Richards way" and we need to jog behind him waiting for another word of wisdom about acceptance.
@RETIREMESOON14 жыл бұрын
@colibri1 I know what your saying about americans thinking that it's acceptable to be tossed off the job because you've become sick. My wife became diabled at work and our attitude in CANADA is "you broke it ,you bought it" On top of that disability other workers in Ontario Canada have heart attacks and Hernias and it's illegal to toss them into the woods. Richard is a strong and wise fellow but others may self destruct when treated that way :0(

It even says in the Bible words to the effect of: ''Be happy with what you may have...'' The way I see it, this is 2010, as in new year, new decade, new century, and new millenuim, so why are we still doing things the 20th Century way and expecting drastically different results?! I come from the future, in which, people walk around with their heads OUTSIDE their asses. lol

Richard seems like he's gotten used to living in this homeless camp. If he can work 1 day, he should be able to work for more days and start saving money to eventually get out of his homeless environment. I'm not judging him, but sometimes we have to help ourselves.
