@debbiewilson53998 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right, Dan. Jon's percussion adds so much to INXS's wide variety of song tempos and rhythms. His style is complex and reliable. He has the ability to add just the right sound at the right time without fail. And he does a funky backbeat like no one else.

I didn't appreciate this song enough in the 80s, when I was young. The older I get (I'm in my 60s now), the more bittersweet and beautiful this song gets, especially in autumn. (Maybe it's that opening keyboard wash, which has always felt like the first chill at the end of summer.) It feels simultaneously like being that time, with all the hope and restless energy of youth, and this time four decades later, when I look back at the things that might have been, the effects of all the choices I made and didn't make, and the small crystalline moments that still stay with me.

Steve, I don't know if you ever watch the movie "Reckless" But in the movie they have this track and others that coincides with the theme of the movie. I also agree with you that the instruments and the keyboards displayed hope and restless energy of youth (based on the movie of "Reckless") Steve is fair to say that those INX's tracks played in the movie gave them more exposure during the 1980's era. Lastly, hearing those songs in this current culture emphasized the greatness of the band based on the singing of Michael and the keyboards, drums and synthesizers which crystalized their great sound in the 1980's, which surpassed the junk that is displayed in the current millennial culture.

🙃"To Look At You" is a song by the Australian rock band INXS. It's from their third studio album titled "Shabooh Shoobah," which was released in 1982. The song showcases the band's new wave and post-punk sound that they were known for during that era. The song's lyrics explore themes of desire and attraction, capturing the emotions and thoughts associated with looking at someone who holds a certain fascination. The album as a whole marked INXS's transition from their earlier, more raw sound to a more polished and commercially successful style.

Loved reading the comments, they reflect the passion we all feel about this song…. Incredibly…I just heard it for the first time 3 days ago!!! It randomly showed in my YT feed. I turn 65 this month, the 80s were the best years of my life (marriage, kids, house, career) and the music was a huge part of that! I still love all the alternative music of that era; TT, TFF, DM, DD, SM, NO, HL, Bowie…….and on and on….I’m an now embarrassed to say I never caught the INXS bug. I simply missed their best lesser known gems. 10 years ago I discovered Don’t Change…it blew me away but I thought it was a one off….I know better now. Let me tell you there are very few life pleasures like discovering a hidden gem in music. This one brought me to tears it is so good, and it is so cool to share that feeling with all of you….I feel your joy.
