NO-ONE ever mentions the drum work of Jon for this band. why??!!?? It drives the music in this song soooo undeniably, and was the back bone of so many of their best songs. Everyone in this band was great...but Jon was exceptional.

You're absolutely right, Dan. Jon's percussion adds so much to INXS's wide variety of song tempos and rhythms. His style is complex and reliable. He has the ability to add just the right sound at the right time without fail. And he does a funky backbeat like no one else.

I didn't appreciate this song enough in the 80s, when I was young. The older I get (I'm in my 60s now), the more bittersweet and beautiful this song gets, especially in autumn. (Maybe it's that opening keyboard wash, which has always felt like the first chill at the end of summer.) It feels simultaneously like being that time, with all the hope and restless energy of youth, and this time four decades later, when I look back at the things that might have been, the effects of all the choices I made and didn't make, and the small crystalline moments that still stay with me.

Steve, I don't know if you ever watch the movie "Reckless" But in the movie they have this track and others that coincides with the theme of the movie. I also agree with you that the instruments and the keyboards displayed hope and restless energy of youth (based on the movie of "Reckless") Steve is fair to say that those INX's tracks played in the movie gave them more exposure during the 1980's era. Lastly, hearing those songs in this current culture emphasized the greatness of the band based on the singing of Michael and the keyboards, drums and synthesizers which crystalized their great sound in the 1980's, which surpassed the junk that is displayed in the current millennial culture.

🙃"To Look At You" is a song by the Australian rock band INXS. It's from their third studio album titled "Shabooh Shoobah," which was released in 1982. The song showcases the band's new wave and post-punk sound that they were known for during that era. The song's lyrics explore themes of desire and attraction, capturing the emotions and thoughts associated with looking at someone who holds a certain fascination. The album as a whole marked INXS's transition from their earlier, more raw sound to a more polished and commercially successful style.

The beginning of the song based on the first drum beat, hook you all the way to the end of the song. Joanie, of course you need a great sound system (speakers) to really appreciate the sound. A good pair of headphones are not bad at all! But nothing compares to the live sound of the speakers in your own living room.

That sold my absolute crazy in love obsession with INXS and mainly Michael Hutchence! "To Look at You" made me swoon even more, if that was possible, lol! The song oozes seduction and has some of the best words a woman would want to hear from a man. Loved reading the comments, they reflect the passion we all feel about this song…. Incredibly…I just heard it for the first time 3 days ago!!! It randomly showed in my YT feed. I turn 65 this month, the 80s were the best years of my life (marriage, kids, house, career) and the music was a huge part of that! I still love all the alternative music of that era; TT, TFF, DM, DD, SM, NO, HL, Bowie…….and on and on….I’m an now embarrassed to say I never caught the INXS bug. I simply missed their best lesser known gems. 10 years ago I discovered Don’t Change…it blew me away but I thought it was a one off….I know better now. Let me tell you there are very few life pleasures like discovering a hidden gem in music. This one brought me to tears it is so good, and it is so cool to share that feeling with all of you….I feel your joy.

I think I do. This and "Old World, New World" are their best songs ever. This album is like their "Sgt. Pepper". Career defining.

I have always thought that Michael Hutchinson has always reminded me of Jim Morrison which is one of the reasons why I love him so much! May they both Rip

I can’t believe I forgot about this song! I got goosebumps when I heard it again and remembered all the words, but so, so sad that Michael’s voice has been silenced for over 20 years now. Where did the time go?

One of the best teen films to come out of the 80s is also one of the least talked about - 1984's 'Reckless'. This song is one of many greats on the soundtrack.
