I think we shouldn’t turn off everything that is in iOS 16 and the iPhone 14 Pro in order to get the most battery life when we are paying for these features but it helps for people like me who panics on my battery life. Love the yearly videos!
@theunknown_7472 жыл бұрын
Yes, i was wondering about that too. You buy this expensive featured packed phone and then turn off all the features which make it unique and you are left with a regular phone experience? Why didn't apple think about this in the first place?
@asafblasbergvideographer2 жыл бұрын
@@theunknown_747 Agree. Let's face it. iPhone 14 Pro Max has worse battery life than iPhone 13 Pro Max. I had iOS 16 with my iPhone 13 Pro Max and definitely had more battery life left than the 14. It's a smaller battery, nothing that software will fix.

@@theunknown_747 No one of these things is bound to help battery life TOO much. I think it would be safe to say the notifications being confined to the notification centre (so they don't light up the screen), along with background app refresh would be the best improvements. I definitely think if you use a combination of these things, you're still getting what you paid for while pro-longing your battery life as much as you can. For example, not all of us don't NEED every notification to light up the screen and show us a preview, only the ones that matter; Messages/Telegram/Whatsapp/Slack. Not everyone will need all the location services set to "Always". You still have ALL the performance you want/need, WHEN you want it, but your screen is off more, and your GPS is being hit less often. Things not every individual needs

Great video Aaron these are some great tips. Thanks for sharing! If you turn off location services for Weather, how do you get the widget to work on the lock screen for Weather? also for battery widget if you tap on it when setting up your lock screen widgets, you can have it come on automatic or you can set it to check certain devices only . precise location with GPS if you turn that off does it save any battery? I disable a lot of stuff and system services I only have SOS on and find my on and I don’t notice any difference by having them off versus on all the others. those turning off reduce motion in accessibility make any difference with the battery life? What about increasing contrast? Does that make a difference in light and dark mode with battery life?

Background app refresh is one of the most perplexing features of iOS in terms of how it’s executed and how the end user is benefits from it being on… There’s simply no telling if an app has “refreshed in the background” because the moment you go into an app be it from the Home Screen or the app switcher the app will either reload because it got bumped out of memory or the app will refresh its content right then and there… I always thought apps would somehow have a dot or something in the app switcher to indicate that content has been recently refreshed in the background, however that would be a bit of a clusterfudge of a mess because you’d then constantly be checking the app switcher to see if an app has done any refreshing… Apple provides a very vague description of what it does, and quite frankly since its introduction back in iOS 7 I’ve yet to notice if it does what they said it’s supposed to achieve, partially because of implementation and partially because it’s supposed to be “seamless” and just “doing its thing in the background”… Side bar, remember when apple was testing a grid layout for app switching back in iOS 4 internal betas (I think it was iOS 4…) I wish iOS had the same grid layout on the iPhone (or at least an option to enable it) I personally find a grid layout to be more intuitive, and while we’re at it how about those thumbnails be live thumbnails and be spring loaded so you can drag and drop content into apps, and extent it further by being able to quick look live thumbnails of an app i.e When you need to peek at an app without switching to it to obtain a small piece of information say a phone number for a business that you already had pulled up on another app… Thanks for attending my Ted Talk.

I would highly recommend to turn on “Reduce Motion” in Accessibility as well. This way you don’t just save some precious battery power, but you also reduce the likelihood of running into animation bugs early in an iOS cycle. Additionally, the iPhone feels even snappier. My battery health is still really good - 99% and I got the phone a month after it was released. I'm just using mail, safari, youtube, maps, basic apple apps (reminders/notes/etc).
