I said at the start of the season that Iowa was ranked higher than warranted. Sixth, seventh, or eighth was more realistic given the departures by Czinano and Warnock and the uncertainties about their replacements. Stuelke looks like she is only going to get better: that’s the good news. And yes, Iowa’s other post players are only adequate, but adequate is all they have to be. Through four games Goodman and O’Grady are shooting 64% FG and scoring 14 points per game. Martin and Marshall have been the offensive disappointments. Their three-pointers are not falling, with a combined 5-28 (18%) for the season. At least one of the two needs to shoot well in almost every game. Even Clark’s shooting has been off. That was true early in the 2021-2022 season as well. In the Kansas State game, I thought her energy level was low, both physically and emotionally. Maybe she felt a little under the weather.

@@joshanderson5164 Somewhat better. Martin finally started scoring some points and Marshall finally hit a few threes. Davis is playing better than last year, perhaps because she is playing more. That said, I still would rank Iowa no higher than their current fifth based on what I have seen of them and other contending teams. Remember, fifth overall was where the NCAA tournament committee seeded them for the 2023 tournament.

Hawks were broke that game. It's not exposure, Kansas State beat them last year also and hold an impressive record of like 7-1 against them. They play tonight against Kansas State and it won't happen this game.

Outside of the refs being sus, K-State was playing like ass for majority of the game, and it wasn't because Iowa was playing good defense. They were missing open threes, blowing makeable layups, and they turned the ball over too much trying to get it to Lee in the early goings. K-State had no business hanging around between beating themselves and bad officiating... and Iowa still couldn't get it together. When Lee finally got it going in the second half, I knew it was over then. You called it, I wasn't 100 percent confident K-State could pull it off, but they did. I expressed my feelings enough about this Iowa team, so honestly this loss isn't that shocking. The Hawkeyes will be fine though. Their schedule will provide them plenty of bounce back chances.

Yes, It was the worst game of Clark´s career, but it is so wild to me how suddenly she´s considered overrated, trash, etc, people can´t wait until someone falls. Iowa looked like that 3 years in a row in this time of november, only difference is now CC is under the microscope so anything bad she does is gonna be highlighted 10x more. Lisa also needs to step up, if she see´s Caitlin took 15 shots and is under 40%, she needs to have courage and bench her, let her cool her head. Caitlin lost the confidence in them, but if she´s gonna shot that much she needs to use her mid range and move off ball, why every shot needs to be a wild 3? You can sense she´s frustrated because now teams took away Iowa´s transition game, she can´t trown those perfect outlet passes anymore, the whip passes to Czinano she loved to make are now just so "slow" this season, she almost feel like the centers are gonna fumble them everytime.

That's was an off game by Iowa, and they'll prove it tonight. Clark was uncharacteristic undershooting every shot. The whole team was off that night. If you actually watched they were missing a lot of wide open shots more than usual.

To now answer the actual question. No I don't think they're overrated. Finishing 2nd to the actual champion is simply going to give you a high ranking. Blame the process not the team. Now are they as good as they were ranked. Doesn't look like it. I said after the season ended that Iowa was going to need to pick up a reliable backcourt scorer to compliment Clark and take some of the pressure off of her. Teams have had an extra year to study Clark's game and early on its showing. Her shooting percentage is down, and unfortunately so is the rest of the backcourt's shooting. Stuelke has looked good, but is more of a complementary hustle type of player. She's not getting those free points running the court right now. Teams seem to have wised up. I think they are really missing their inside players that graduated last year. Unfortunately the team didn't get better because they can't seem to recruit that well.

I'm an Iowa fan. I've always been concerned about how they would replace Warnak and Czinano. You hear a lot about Czinano but Warnak really was a great player too. They really don't look good without them and Bluder hasn't figured out what combination will work. When LSU and UCONN got beat I took a lot of heat from Iowa fans before and after the last poll came out because I felt South Carolina should get the number 1 ranking. Since the game Thursday it's been crickets.

Iowa will be fine. Everyone is jumping the gun. Iowa will hover around top 10 all year. With time you will see Stuelke, Goodman, Affolter and Feuerbach settle in and Iowa will make a run in the tourny. How deep will depend on their improvement. It's too early to write them off.

UCONN lost to NC State, which they were a ranked team, at #14, so UCONN should drop to their spot, but the other team they beat as well, might move them up a little. Iowa lost to an unranked team, so their drop in rankings may not be too severe. Utah lost as well. I’m an LSU fan, so I was rooting for IOWA to lose, to knock them off the #2 spot. So, Iowa lost after all. I’m pretty sure South Carolina wouldn’t lose. They’re to powerful right now. They will remain at #1. That leaves UCLA, who beat Princeton. Only 2 teams at the top of the AP Poll haven’t lost: South Carolina & UCLA. Hopefully they will eventually lose. We got to get those LSU tigers back on top, if they can get their act together!😢❤

Yes, I watched this game and the refs were cheating so bad! I turned off the tv off in the 3rd quarter I could not watch. Then in the morning I saw after all that cheating Iowa lost. I disagree Caitlin will not be able to keep this up because she will tire out taking too many shots! Good points !

No team will go undefeated in their 37+ games this season, maybe South Carolina can hold on, it’s not impossible, but the majority of the time they can’t. Showing early signs of weakness is better than later on during more important games, lsu can still go on a long winning streak after this loss, so will uconn. Doesn’t mean their overrated…Stanford lost three times before winning national championship in ‘21, South Carolina too.

YES, IOWA WAS OVERRATED. Tell us something we don’t already know. Regarding poor officiating, if you want to do a video on that subject, please pick a game that mattered. Do a poor officiating video with a slew of ref errors on the National Semifinal game between Iowa v. South Carolina. We know “everybody” saw that game but nobody is talking about it. Just the two fouls NPOY, DPOY Aliyah Boston was whistled for in the 1st half was egregious on its own. It sent Boston to the bench for the rest of the entire half and DEFINITELY AFFECTED THE GAME. But because Iowa won nobody cared about the ref errors. Iowa loses to LSU in the Championship game--and NOW EVERYBODY cares about ref errors. 🤷🏽‍♀️ You can’t have it both ways! If you were fine with the officiating in the Iowa/SC game, then you can’t complain about the officiating in the LSU/Iowa game.

Clark recognized that and put the pressure on both VT and the refs. I’m sure some calls were incorrect, but that’s nothing new.

@@countyboy3988 Do I think every called foul was actually a foul or would have been called a foul on another night even by the same refs? Probably not anymore than I think a player who shoots 7 of 19 one game will necessarily shoot better in a rematch. But I think the simple explanation in this case is the best. Jump shots get fouled relatively infrequently. Fouls are committed far more often when players drive to the basket. When one player is as ball dominant as Clark and that player drives as often as Clark did against Virginia Tech, that one player is going to draw fouls.
