iPad 10th Gen (2022) - The STRANGEST iPad!

Apple has a new iPad out that makes... well it makes a lot of strange choices with its design because while it looks like a modern iPad design, it is still stuck with support for the older first generation Apple Pencil and literally requires a dongle for it to work, furthermore this iPad also has some strange changes for the better like moving the camera to landscape mode, new vivid colors, good performance, and possibly a better keyboard. And the strangest part is at $450 this iPad could either be a great deal, or perhaps an iPad that might want to avoid.

Holy crap yes, this. The same thing I thought when I saw it was exactly what I've thought whenever I'm looking at getting something with small but important parts: "Where am I going to keep that?". And I immediately decided I'll use the included C to C with the tablet as an exclusive cable for the dongle, dongle and cable can chill in my stationary drawer in my room, and the iPad itself can be charged on the high quality setup I bought for my phone. Simple. I realize that is not as "loaning a PS4 game" commercial simple as putting the pencil onto the table to charge is. But I also think people are way too bent out of shape over the situation.

I actually think charging with a cable makes more sense, rather than straight out plugging the pencil into the iPad, I’m always anxious about it to break and leave the lighting connecter inside. However no one should ever pay 9 extra bucks just for the dongle, not because it’s expensive but Apple at it again with their toxic profit strategy.

I did appreciate the fact that going forward, the 1st gen apple pencil will include the connector dongle. The added $9 is just for if you already have the 1st gen pencil and decide to upgrade to this new 10th gen iPad..it beats having to pay another $100 for a pencil just bc of the connector.

I love the size and the use I get out of it is exactly what it was intended for kzbin.infoUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA . I use it mostly for taking notes in school and studying and it for the most part has replaced all my note-taking on actual paper. However, the screen is not as bright as I'd like. The lights in my class are super bright and I have to adjust my angles often just to see what I'm reading/writing on the screen. It could be my eyes, but I think a brighter screen would still help. Also there is no mute switch. This might not be an issue for most people but for me, this being my first ipad and being an iphone user, I'm so used to having it there. Everyone can hear when I'm typing with it in the library (probably just me overthinking) but I'm sure I can adjust that in the settings. Just kinda inconvenient. Other than that, I really enjoy it overall

Sounds like an excellent plan. I prefer the classic design of the basic iPad models. So, to replace me 6th generation basic iPad, I ordered the older 9th generation basic iPad with max RAM and the cell data option. Why? Because my 1st generation Apple Pencil works without a special adapter, and all my lighting adaptors also work great. In addition, I ordered mine off of Apple’s Veteran web site and saved 10 percent (smile…smile).

The Apple Pencil 1 comes with an adapter in the box. But, it seems that you do need the NEW adapter to “pair” the pencil. You have to plug in the pencil into the iPad. It looks like Apple did not want to spend for the adapter or to redesign the box!

I went back and forth for awhile. After seeing the color options I was pretty excited to have a pink ipad. I decided to visit my local Apple store today and to my disappointment that color does NOT look hot pink. Its just a frosted red, or coral at best. Definitely not true pink or magenta. After seeing this video and your comments on the apple pencil setup, its definitely a no for me. I wanted to like this so much, but honestly if youre an artist or digital planner like me, your only 'budget' options are still the 9th gen iPad or the iPad Air. Not mad at it, but now its going to take me a little longer to save up to accommodate the higher price tag of the two.

Yep. Can't speak for all outlets, but BestBuy Canada is only selling the pencil one that includes the dongle now. As someone who is buying a new iPad with no previous history, and who adores the pink color, the fact that I've seen people hook the dongle from the pencil up to the cable that comes with the ipad has me confident this will not be a headache. In my case specifically I already have a very good charging setup for any usb c devices I own. So that annoying little 3 foot cable is pretty much gonna get married to that little dongle and live in my stationary drawer outside of when the pencil needs charging.

You need to attach it to the ipad once to pair the ipad and the pencil. After that you can use a wall brick or you can get one of the chargers designed specifically to hold the pencil and cap and plug into a usb c cord.

I’m getting one so my Dad can have my iPad Air 3 to replace his older model iPad Mini! Having to hook up my Apple Pencil 1 using an adaptor does look cumbersome but I can live with that, definitely beats selling a kidney to afford an Apple Pencil 2! My guess as to why they have this iPad use the Pencil 1 and have you hook it up with an adaptor is that this is a transition and they’re doing this to clear out all their Pencil 1s before switching fully to Pencil 2 for the iPad 11!

I don’t agree with the tech community response to the pencil, it is not elegant but for many in the market for the new iPad they are likely to have an old one in the drawer and avoids them having to invest in a new one. In daily use will be fine. Heavy users will go for an air or a pro. Would not be surprised if in a redesign of the current mid and high range iPads - next year? - we will see a pencil three that may connect differently allowing for the camera to be placed at the centre in landscape mode…

For $450, I bought a used good condition 4th gen iPad air, apple smart folio case, and a brand new second gen apple pencil on amazon on sale for $89. I just can't justify anyone buying this iPad. Apple Pencil is not a big deal for me, I prefer the Logitech crayon, it’s cheaper and it basically does the same thing, for every other features this iPad provides, for a non content creator, it’s great. The Apple Pencil is an added luxury and you can get around that. My favorite and what won me over is the landscape camera module! I love. I also had the IPad Pro and iPad Air so you know I only got this one for the front camera…. Lol wasting money but I love Apple’s products; what can I say. 😊

@@David-je2mn I would say an iPad mini 6; it’s a tad bit of an upgrade from 10th generation iPad with a laminate screen and higher chip size for better speed and performance. It is also pocketable for carrying your digital notes and manuals around for quick access. The second generation pencil can be used and that’s a convenience for busy doctors, to not have to wait to charge the pencil, because as you know the pencil attaches and charges via the iPad.

So I ended up choosing this ipad because it was $419 & the air was $469. Essentially they are very similar. I had an issue trying to buy refurbished so I was skeptical about this model. Heres is what I like the speakers, the front camera, the screen real estate, the size of the bezel doesn’t have you touch the screen compared to the mini 6. What I don’t like I will need 2 dongles for how I use ipad in life, one for audio output & one for my apple pencil. Is that a deal breaker? No. I never liked shoving the apple pencil in the charging port. The display not being laminated you cant really tell on this device once a screen protector is on like paper like or a matte one. I use my ipad in landscape mode so the camera being in the middle I actually really like. Choosing between this an the 9th gen was a no brainer. If you can afford it. But the ipad 10th gen comes in at weird price. I used a student discount and it was $419 while the 9th gen was $329 & the air 4 was $469. Considering it has an a14 chipset, a better front camera then all of them and better positioning of it I do think its a better choice for that option. However the speakers fall in middle of being better than the 9th gen ipad and being a less loud then the air 4. But so far I really like it.

If they had the iPad pro 12'9 in that hot pink I would have been SOOOOOOLLLLLDDDDDDDDD!! instead I just purchased an iPad pro in rose gold with 256 gb for $259 at Walmart and will throw a hot pink case on it! Lol in my katt Williams voice I think I made a pimp decision 😂

I think the 10th generation IPad is weird. Why would Apple not put the 2 generation Apple Pencil instead they choose the old Pencil I think they were I bit lazy this year and just went with the old Pencil. I’m happy to see that Apple is gradually integrating there devices to USB-C charging which is really nice!

@@asalalani4068 you bought the wrong Apple Pencil. The 10th generation iPad only works with the first generation pencil. You should send back the second generation pencil and get a refund and use that money to buy the first generation pencil. It sounds weird but that’s the way Apple designed the the tenth generation iPad. When you do buy the first generation pencil, don’t forget to buy the connector because the 10th generation iPad has a USB-C port not a lightning port so you’ll need to buy a converter. It sounds complicated and it sucks.

Why don’t you just plug the first generation Apple Pencil into a IPad 9 ( or earlier) power cable? That’s what I do with mine.

I think the outrage is a little blown out of proportion. Most people are going to go to Walmart, and get a stylist for under $20.00 anyway. Budget minded purchasers will probably stick with budget purchases.

At first I thought you were trying to say, In order to use the apple pencil you have to have it plugged into the Ipad, and I was like wtfff, Then you unplugged it, and used it and I was like much better.
