+Karpfador You don't need to be the first to do something in order for people to claim others that came after are ripping it off. You just need to be the best or at least the most popular. Look at God of War. There's plenty of games that had the exact same combat style as GoW before GoW existed, but they weren't as good as GoW, namely Rygar.

Stephen Terry bruh
@cyancat5451
@cyancat5451 9 жыл бұрын
Stephen Terry it's because there are no quality standards. the industry had to sort itself out somewhat after the crash of 1983 because consoles were expensive and their sole function was to play games. if the games were bad it was a waste of money. the iphone doesn't have that factor to inforce any kind of quality standard like the grim reaper looming above, the mere sight of it's gleaming scythe terrorising the dreams of consoles everywhere. everyone in countries with avarage wealth high enough to afford a smartphone owns a smartphone. games on the appstore don't need to aspire, inspire, enrich or even just entertain, they merely need to distract so that you can pop it out on the bus for five minutes or distract the kids in the back of the car. in this enviroment games with heart and soul perish cold and lonely while generic crap made to brainwash those who don't know any better thrive like a parasitic fungus on a decrepit yet enormous body of a beast that can't be killed
@cyancat5451
@cyancat5451 9 жыл бұрын
Stephen Terry although a lot of good games with souls exist on iphone the appeal of traditional gaming devices is so strong that the dedicated audience for games will continue to prefer them over iphone games. this makes mobile a platform with a casual majority. this is not necessarily a bad thing but the casual audience is very easy to exploit

That wasn't even true 4 years ago when Yahtzee said it. Angry Birds was a ripoff of a flash game. All mobile games are either a ripoff or derivative of another game. There's nothing wrong with that, but calling them "innovative" is beyond charitable

ECL28E Naughty Dog's two main series this past generation (Uncharted and Last of Us) were created with the sole intention of crafting an immersive cinematic experience rivaling the grandeur and writing of Hollywood flicks. Now if you don'tconsider improvements in game's scope and writing to be improvements upon gaming (or if you don't think they accomplished such), that's your opinion.

LeonGun8 Yeah, next for more innovation we need the fps to be 24 and the game to be more like a movie (ie Beyond: Two Souls). Just no, Uncharted writings/story is also a rip off, just like Hollywood (wear most of the time its a "recreates" a book). Mass Effect, Bioshock, and Half-Life had way better story/writing.

The reason the "mobile games" are "original" compared to each other is cause they aren't stealing from each other, they are stealing from intenret flash games. Each and every one of those mobile games their "idea" has been taken from a popular flash game (that probably did it better and had more effort put in it)

I'd rather spend 12 hours mucking about with my 3DS on a game that was designed with for a game machine. I don't have an iPhone and frankly they seem to be going the way of the 80s arcade: filled with pay-to-play, obnoxiously immature, and containing the depth of a puddle after a kindergarten class walked through it.

The thing about the Google Play store that makes me more than a little mad is whenever I look around in the free section I see about a million ripoffs of other popular games, not to mention reviews that give a well designed game one star just because it doesn't work on their phone.

Thngs were so different when this video was made. Angry Birds and Doodle God have since been commercialized to death, and microtransactions, corporations, and corporate microtransactions crushed mobile gaming so hard that console gaming felt the aftershocks.

What was the last mobile game you've played? Try something like Device 6, Monument Valley, Out There, Republique, Wayward Souls. All of these are great games released this year that you can get really cheap even when not on sales (and with no microtransactions).
@BenedictTanShanWen
@BenedictTanShanWen 10 жыл бұрын
Of all the games you named, none of which compel me to pick my phone/tablet as my preferred method of gaming. Even the best games of yesteryore like sword and sorcery and the carnal superhexagon feel awkwardly executed thanks to there being no great way to execute any kind of interface on a touchscreen. The only way I enjoyed completing the former was on PC. All things being equal of all the games you posted there isn't anything on that list that wouldn't play better if it were on a gaming platform other than mobile with the possible exception of Device 6 and even then I'm skeptical of that. Mobile gaming succeeds not because it's particularly any good; it succeeds because it's always there.

It was obsolete the moment he uploaded the video. As many others have pointed out, the fun early phone were mostly just rip offs of flash games from half a decade ago, many of which could be played entirely without ads and God forbid they require you to pay for them.
