I found this series of videos extremely useful. There's a lot of information relating to ir illuminaters and lasers that I didn't have a clue about. The demo with the bin bag poly shocked me with the intensity of the laser, also the advice on the batteries was invaluable. Thank you so much Bruce and Russ for the time and effort you put into your tutorials, I for one am so glad I sub'd your channel as I've learnt so much from it, especially after purchasing the Pard008lrf your my go to advice center. ATB... BILLY 👍👍👍

Wow thanks very much Billy, we're certainly very happy to share the information as we learn it ourselves. I know I've learned a lot filming these, with Bruce as the Oracle of all things NV & Thermal-related. Lots more to come, though I'll give it a few days before I upload the next -don't want to overload everyone. :o) Cheers. Russ

Awesome info. I'm going to be buying an IR led light eventually. Led technology is so cool, and i love the infrared spectrum. So much of what we look at is experienced through cameras now, and an infrared lightsource is a great tool to have! Thanks to the both of you for sharing your expert knowledge on the subject, it was very fascinating and well presented.

Very informative! Learned so much in just half an hour. I found myself looking into the beam of an ir torch to find out if it was switched on. Now I know better. Thankfully it was a LED. Good tip to look at the reflection on your hand or through a mobile phone. I’ll treat the red dot on my new NV008LRF with great respect. Does the warning also apply to the range finder beam? I assume it does. Will do the bin bag test. Finally, great tips and info about the 18650 batteries. Didn’t know what ‘protected” meant. One last question: Can I use a pin head surface 18650 instead of the flat head (can’t screw the cap fully shut but it works) or will that damage the unit? Once again, thanks to you both. I’ll never understand how anyone could give a thumbs down here.
@RussDouglas2224 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much Matt that's very kind of you. There's certainly a lot less energy being output via the LRF beam, but it's definitely safer not to look into any IR beam when switched-on. No you shouldn't use a pinhead 18650 as you don't need the 'protection' it offers, but more importantly you'll not be able to screw the cap on and thus make the unit watertight. Bruce recommends genuine Panasonic or Samsung batteries. Thanks for watching and commenting, all the best. Cheers. Russ

Thanks Russ! I have another question. The Pard does not (or no longer) have a dedicated app for the Wi-Fi connection. Is there any app that you can recommend that will work? It’s a bit silly to offer the Wi-Fi option and then no one can use it. Same goes for the Nitesite that I also have. There used to be a NitePlayer app which no longer works and has not been updated or supported for a while. Perhaps a generic Wi-Fi app could work for both?

@@matttautz231 I've heard via the NightVision Forum (www.nightvisionforumuk.com/viewforum.php?f=3) of a few that work, including PPShow and OK Cam plus - but I just record direct to 128GB MicroSD card, so haven't used them myself. Hope this helps, cheers. Russ

Brilliant series of videos. The bin bag test really shocked me and I honestly hadn’t thought about it before. I have a NIGHTFOX XB5 IR illuminator which has a green light on the back so you know if it’s on and it is 5w 850nm and has a stepless dimmer switch

Great series keep up the good work didn`t know that about the batteries and I have always been worried about the pard being switched on by accident in the gun bag and running the battery right down as I read online that if you flatten the battery in the pard it will stuff up the menu function. What make of battery would you recommend as a spare for the pard nv008 as it came with only one battery branded pard many thanks David
@RussDouglas2225 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much David. I believe/remember that was an early problem whereby if the battery ran flat or was taken out while the unit was on, the firmware had to be reinstalled -but that was fixed a long time ago by a firmware update. Bruce always recommends (1) avoid any battery brand with "..fire..." in the name (2) stick to genuine Panasonic or Samsung(?) batteries from reliable ebay suppliers like 'Torchy the battery boy' or 'The Ecolux Shop'. Remember it's only flat-top 18650's, and don't use silicon oil if the battery cap threads are dry/scratchy, instead clean them and apply a little bit of Vaseline. Oh and if you record video to the card with audio enabled it can pick up interference when the battery drops to one bar, or with cheap batteries. Enjoy your PARD. 👍🏻 Cheers. Russ

I have just got into night vision, and I'm looking at Ir illuminators. Most of my shooting is on sheep farms, and from what you said about damaging live stock eyes, do I need to be looking at LED or will a laser be ok. Many thanks, Matthew
@RussDouglas222 Жыл бұрын
Hi Mathew, providing any VCSEL IR comes under the Lamp standard (e.g. as Pards do), then its IR beam will be too dispersed to do any harm to the eyes of any livestock. Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ
@matthewo6077 Жыл бұрын
@RussDouglas 222 Thank you. I will do more research looking for an Ir. There are so many out there that i don't know where to start. So, as long as it is a VCSEL or LED, then it should be fine . You say lamp standard, what do I need to be looking at for that. many thanks
