Unfortunately I live in NY where you need a permit to buy a handgun and it's pretty much impossible to get one here. So my first gun was a maverick 88, then I bought a Savage 64f 22lr before I went all out and built my fixed mag ar15 with a 10 round mag bc of all the BS laws we have here.

That what really gets me about this gun/ammo grabbing these past months... first time buyers of rifles and handguns aren't seeking the knowledge past the point of sale. SOmetimes not even before entering the premise of the store. Theres only so much that ya'll can inform these folks and ya'll do a great job of it. I also understand that many people do not have access to an outdoor range that allows drills to be practiced, scopes to be zero'd and such. Really enjoy ya'lls channel and look foward

I'm not American but I'm glad you got the point across about training and learning from people. I learned from my grandpa and his friends when I started shooting at a young age and I try to teach people the same things I learned about guns/hunting... Just like other things in life like cars, etc... guns aren't dangerous it's the people behind them who don't respect them or don't have proper training. Keep up the good work you guys, it's an awesome channel :)

Barry, I began to watch these videos and now I own 14 firearms and my children know what they know because of you. Your life created thousands of gun owners around the world. I still think about you every time I buy a firearm and I’ve told My kids about you. They watch the videos to learn. I learned everything I know about guns from these videos with you. I honestly feel like if you have a handgun (semi-auto/revolver) and a shotgun, you really don't need anything more. Just my opinion.

+Paul Brittain That depends on what you need it for. slugs aren't really that good for longer ranges, so if you're doing anything past 250 yards, you need a rifle. or if you're a competition shooter, you need whatever the league you're in says you need.

I would say a semi-auto rifle (not bolt or lever action) and a handgun would work well for any situation you find yourself in. A rifle short-range is just as deadly and easy to use as a shotgun. The only problem from a rifle would possibly be over-penetration or muzzle flash in the dark. But it would be a fine substitute for a shotgun. Plus you can have 30+ rounds with a rifle, but with a shotgun maybe 9 or 10 at the very most.

Michael Book yes but you don´t need to worry about the muzzle flash if you are against ... 1 up to 3 buglars. the most arent even armed or just carry meele weapons. so if they would see that you would shot at them the least they would do is run at you... and the point of a rifle is to hurt someone or just make him defensless. which is even written in the geneva conventions .

This month's "New Concealed Carry Magazine" has an article on CB holster. It has a small insert article by Scott Wagner entitled, "The Ultimate CCW?" He argues for the S&W J-frame revolver in a .38 special caliber. I have carried one often when attire would not allow me to wear anything else. It has enough potency to keep you safe if you keep your wits about you. Again, great video. Keep up the good work!!!

Glad you are adamant about the importance of gun safety. I see so many of my generation come to our local gun safety course ill be teaching at soon, saying its difficult to find a local gun safety instructor. It brightens my day completely knowing that there are people who are very knowledgable of guns but even more of dangerous a lack of knowledge can be.

cont. There are also levels to the permit. You get a purchase permit, a carry permit and a keep at home permit. We don't have concealed carry permits unless expressly permitted in rare cases. You cant carry the gun loaded, it has to be kept in a separate location from the ammunition. If you drive to a range, you have to keep for example, the gun in the boot and the ammo in the passenger compartment, or vice versa. You can also leave it stowed at a gun club and use it there at the range.

RIP Barry. I had read when I was a kid, way back in the '80's that the way to run a pump shotgun was to tuck the stock under your arm, but Barry is the first guy I've ever seen on KZbin actually demonstrate that technique.

Check out the Sig Sauer P250, different calibers and sizes, all interchangeable and the slide is easy to use. And price wise you cant beat it. The rear sight is solid and can be used with a solid holster to chamber a round, just catch the sight on the edge of the holster and push downward.

I agree with your choices & the order to buy them. For practical purposes,handgun,shotgun,rifle is perfect. However; I do find it easier to break in people that are unsure of shooting with a low powered rifle first. It's just not as scary to them at first. After they get used to something going bang in their hands then I go to the handgun. That's for people that are unsure of or scared of guns. If someone needs/wants something for protection,I agree 100% with pistol first. Another great vid guys

My first gun is .223 Ruger Mini-14 stainless steel ranch rifle it's a 582 series. I also picked up a Ruger 10/22 collector series in forest green. I bought the Mini because they will shoot any bullets you put in the mag. I picked up the 10/22 because it's cheap to shoot. They're both fairly accurate. If I miss then I'll just shoot till I hit it. Ya got 25-30 try's.

Lol. I own three of the guns he showed, and one in every category. S&WE 642 with a shrouded hammer, best of both worlds, single/double without pocket snags. The S&WE SD40 great guns for the price. Trigger isn't 2 stage, but with practice it doesn't really matter, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot it 50 yards. I own the mossberg 895, pretty similar to the model you showed but corrosion resistant and 8 round tube. Then I own a marlin model 60, Tikka T3 30-06, and S&WE M&P15. Love every gun is own.

One of the biggest problems most gun owners will make, especially if they only own one or two guns is that they will not lock them up when not attended. If I am not carrying a gun or in the room with it, it is locked up. I have a big safe and several smaller safes that are fast access. The prize of any burglar is finding a gun, especially a handgun. I think it would be great if you guys would do an Episode on different options for securing your firearms from theft. Keep up the good work.

Actually, I was in two gun shops today, and stock is improving over a couple of weeks ago. Of course, they were both sold out of all but the most expensive ARs, but had a good selection of shotguns, pistols and other rifles, and both even had 30round AR mags, which neither did two weeks ago.

A very succinct, erudite and comprehensible exposition on a vital subject. As a qualified instructor in pistol, rifle and shotgun (albeit lapsed now due to age) I know whereof I speak. Here in NZ, owning a handgun is obstructed with so many regulations as to render their defensive use virtually impossible. Carrying ANY sort of gun in public is virtually forbidden, and violent crime is easy for the criminals as they know that their victims will be unarmed. A national "gun free zone" for them....

Great video. The best gun in the world is one a person has, and has trained with. I think the best tactical accessory for a firearm is range time. Most people don't understand the level of dedication and training necessary for responsible firearm ownership. They forget about the "responsible" part, and then buy whatever "looks cool" or whatever they saw in a movie or on TV. There's too much media/Hollywood nonsense, and not enough fact circulating out there.

I really like what you say about being knowledgeable about your guns. I have friends that buy guns and i go to the range with them and they have no idea how to work the actions or the safety protocols that come with being a firearm owner. I live in Canada and there are more intense laws up here with firearms in general and even tho there is a course to take to get a gun license, people only know enough to pass the minimum requirement and that is just wrong.

5:15 i have a cz 453 Varmint great rifles with a big boy feel, the standard trigger might need some adjusting but some models come with the set-trigger which is wonderful. Its a very accurate rifle. It likes standard velocity ammo cci standard and such shoot great basically as good as my .22 expensive target rifle. Takes a bit of breaking in but the bolt gets smoother, the only downside is the way undersized pistol grip

Im 30 years old and have just bought my first handgun. I have owned rifles and shotguns since i was a kid, and have shot plenty of handguns.(they just were not mine) i am scheduled to get my ccw permit in Feb. i found out that the same guy thats teaching the ccw class also has advanced classes, I am excited to get the extra training! I cannot wait!

I got started with a little Ruger 10/22 when I was a kid. I started when I was a little girl but I have used .22 rifles to get some of my friends started that were reluctant to shoot at all & it works well to get them started. Of course people coming in wanting a self defense gun are totally different than those that aren't sure they want a gun at all. Cheers to the humble .22 rifle.

just my opinion also Cause im from Canada and we have no ccw ( fight for your fights once they are gone they are not coming back) i thinking having a good rifle first is better because in Canada most rifles are non restricted which means you can just take it out to the bush. plus its easyer to learn to be proficeint with a rifle then a handgun. just my opinion.

I've been thinking. I think a good first step for Canada would be to get single-action-only revolvers reclassified as non-restricted, as a .44 Rem Mag or similar is a good choice for bear defense. Baby steps.

I bought my first pistol last year and took a self defense with a firearm course. It's worth the money for first time shooters. Did it with a Glock 19 to. Even passed my CCDW course with it. Ruger 10-22, Mossberg 500 or Maverick 88 are next.

Barry is right about gun safety. I grew up around guns, shot my first gun when i was probably 4 years old. My dad always told me, you mess up with a gun, either your dead or someone else is. Guns dont forgive. They are like mother nature. I need training myself, i cant shoot a handgun worth a darn. Great video
