I'm surprised you didn't include the Hi Point 995TS; It is inexpensive, eats both cheap and quality ammo without a burp, is surprisingly accurate, and is a gas to shoot right out of the box. Yes it's not tactical enough for you two, not too many upgrades; but for those of us who don't have a lot of $$$$, it's an accurate and reliable option for both fun, run & gun and self defense. It's Guaranteed for Life, Made in America, and with the Hi-Point approved, 20-round REDBALL Sports mags, it is no longer a 7 pound, 10 round toy.

As a recent HP Carbine owner I ask that question too. I suppose if I could afford a 2000 dollar sbr, a 1000 dollar can and a couple of 200 dollar tax stamps I might be tempted to have a top 5 carbine in the closet. But instead I have a HP that works amazingly well and shoots to point of aim.

Ran Kelvin I agree! I've got 3 Hi Point 9mm carbines, two 995TS models&the original stock that looks like a "planet of the apes" gun. They do what they're supposed to do,they've been reliable, everyone who's shot mine thinks they're fun to shoot,& I'm not concerned with what gun snobs think of them. The 20round Redball magazine is a sweet addition to the 10round magazines. I'll take a "take it out of the box&shoot it carbine" over a "fiddle with it till it works right" designer carbine anytime.

@@mantafelix How can a great rear aperture and a front post be difficult? I pulled it out the box and was nailing tight groups just casually from 30 yds or so. Having seen an M-16 original stock, buffer and spring go flying from just bouncing against an 80 pound pack at Parris Island in 1985, I think I can safely say that the Beretta Carbine's stock felt like a well balanced bullpup. Rak-9 from the factory has a threaded barrel. Has a interchange plate for glock, berreta, and Luger mags with adapters. Has the dove tail side mount so you can buy a picatinny adapter. Already has polymer foregrips and has thousands of parts that will fit because it’s the same size as a ak-47 but is labeled a carbine because of the 9mm rounds it shoots. I think the best part of it I have noticed is the simplicity of the mechanism which almost 100% mirrors the original design. I purchased it for 699 total after transfer fees from GB. Well if you’re looking for a great home defense or truck gun these are actually great. They won’t over penetrate and potentially injure an unintended target, and 9mm out a of a 10+ inch barrel has similar ballistics to a .357. A 30+ round .357 seems like a badass home defense weapon to me. .223/5.56 are more for hunting, or if all hell breaks loose because those guns were designed to shoot targets at a distance, not within typical self defense range.

Just took out my new Wilson Combat ar9 pistol with 8 1/2” barrel set up for Glock mags. This is by far my fav gun at the moment. Just added a law tactical folding stock and a Trijicon SRO… ran about 200 rounds flawlessly. Wasn’t cheap, but man it’s nice! Also added a Raptor ambi charging handle.

I am possibly looking at getting a Southern Gun Co 9mm "lever release" rifle. Seeing as I couldn't own any of these in the UK due to them being semi auto, with the SGC rifle it locks the bolt back after every round fired and you manually release it each time with a lever where the safety would be on an AR with your thumb. That is about as close as I can get to any of these sadly. I would love that MP5...

just move to Arizona here in the United States. Our state legislature just voted in a new bill which states that Arizona will never follow any of the new federal regulations regarding firearms due to them being unconstitutional. You can own a tank legally here, so getting you into a hk mp5 shouldn't be too hard. Just expensive, lol.

Buy a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 that accepts the same mag as your carry pistol. If you carry a Glock, look for the model that matches your Glock. If you don't own a Glock, buy the M&P model because it is a multi-mag by changing out the mag catch...so check if the mag catch for your carry pistol is available. Taurus PT model (111, G2c, 3Gc, etc.) can use the P226 mag catch.

Great review. My friend just bought a Kel Tech, and I like it. The stock is a little flimsy for me, but it is functional. I'm old school. I used to work at the largest gun store in Indiana with 3 indoor ranges, etc,. But, that's been long ago. Back in the late 80's. I love firearms. :-) Varmint rifles are my weakness, but I also love AR's, etc, and trying to get back into shooting again. I've been ill for several years and had to get out of it, so your reviews help big time. Thanks guys. Really appreciate it.

I have a 995TS-CA (Grrrr because of the mag release tool required to be legal) I can attest my 995TS has never had a single FTF, FTE or had ANY problem in over 1800 rounds. Since I live in SoCal with their stupid 10 round mag restrictions, it just doesn't make sense to buy a carbine made to run normal capacity mags that are illegal in CA.

Still no mention of the Beretta CX4 Storm, despite it being a proven design on the market for over 12 years now, which run flawlessly right out of the box. Those JRC's are unreliable crap and the Kel Tec's, while I love mine, isn't half as reliable or accurate as my Beretta.

The sub 2000 I have one and it is a gen 2. I have done many upgrades to it already but remember that this is supposed to be a simple self defense gun. If you did want some kind of competition gun, go with ar style carbines where you can put all the attachments you want on it. it might just be me but on a gun like it it just drives me nuts to think of trying to quickly pull it out of under my seat with all of those attachments getting caught on stuff. I do see the trigger upgrades and polishing as something necessary as it does have a plastic trigger with a heavy pull. some polishing and a new trigger kit really makes a world of a difference
@realtywithseankemp97048 жыл бұрын
my P07 Duty would release the safety after 4 trigger pulls of a safety activated position. When manual safety is installed and placed on "Safety" the trigger can be pulled 3-4 times and the safety "Rocks" itself down to "Safety Off" and BOOM!! CZ said "oh well don't do that.."

Chad's 9mmAR = $400 of extortion money + $1600 of specially made gun parts AND modifications = Too much damn money to sink into a gun for just plinking. If you are going to use the gun for just plinking, save your money for expensive modifications and buy more ammo. If the gun can't hit the target right out the box, then return the damn thing because there is something defective with it. Oh and glock mags are NOT the end all/be all to pistol mags. NOT everything has to accommodate them.
@lucky431138 жыл бұрын
glock mags are just easy to get almost anywhere
@thereturningshadow8 жыл бұрын
+lucky43113 So are Beretta mags and Smith mags and Sig mags. It's only because glockaholics only want glock mags for other guns.
@LunaDevaKitty8 жыл бұрын
+Returning Shadow It's Chad's money, he can spend them on whatever he wants. Also, the reason everything is being made to accommodate Glock mags is because they've got a good solid system, they're pretty cheap and readily available. Of course there are better magazines out there, but that's what standardizing means. There sure as hell are better bullet designs than 5.56 and 9mm out there.
@thereturningshadow8 жыл бұрын
+DevaKitty It's Chad's money...blah blah blah blah. Not my point. The point is they mentioned the idea of the M-5P being expensive from the start and yet they are willing to sink $1,000+ into a gun for modifications to get it to the reliability of the MP5 system. And the glock mags are NOT any better than the other mag systems that I mentioned originally. They ALL function the same way. The ONLY reason so many newer gun systems take glock mags is because of the glockaholics always bitching that the guns are useless without glock mags. Why do you think the Kel-Tec sub2000 is manufactured for THREE different mag designs? Glock, Beretta and Smith. Because NOT everyone thinks the glock mags are the ONLY mags.
@LunaDevaKitty8 жыл бұрын
Returning Shadow If they have no functional difference, then why not just stick to one and go from there? I mean same goes for many 5.56 rifles, people don't really wanna buy them if they don't take AR mags. It's just because it's convenient to people. It's elitism either way.

Hi Point 995TS beat out the KelTec in every test I've seen and the Mini 30 does too in my opinion. Seems strange you claim these are the best while telling about all the troubles you experienced with them. The only problem with the Hi Point is the 10 round mag and that is due too the govt. regulations at the time. It's one of the most durable and has the best warranty in the industry. I suspect you fellas are biased toward black gun clones !

Guys, you've either forgotten or intentionally ignored another very fine choice... The Mech Tech carbine which comes in as well as several other popular calibers, can be fit to AR configuration and uses Glock magazines. I have it in .45 and it shoots great. The attraction here is that if you already have a Glock (or 1911) pistol the CCU *carbine conversion unit) ships right to your door as its an accessory and not a firearm as it uses the lower from your existing pistol. It only takes about 30 seconds to swap the lower from pistol to the CCU or you can get a second lower if you want to shoot two handed. ;) I think you should give this option much more credit as its Gen 2 configuration and options for overall configuration is highly under rated. I have the .45 in Glock, as mentioned, and with an extended capacity magazine mag and steel main assembly, the firepower is equivalent to a Thompson .45 yet has the configurability of an AR. Just sayin... Thanks for the quality videos.

I have a stupid question about the carbines that take glock mags: do they have to look that stupid? I mean I'm guessing the mag has to sit in that weird angle because that's how it sits in the pistol relative to the barrel but must the magwell be that thick so the whole thing looks even uglier?
@OrangeAmped8 жыл бұрын
That's why I much prefer carbines built from the ground up for pistol calibers like the Kriss Vector, Scorpion, MP5, etc. The AR conversions are just hideous.

My first carbine, hipoint 9mm , like a boat anchor, but reliable, slapped a utg $99.00 scope on it. Runs good. A couple screws fell out, hipoint sent some free. If I had bought a keltec , first, prob never would have bought a hipoint. Charging handle always gets loose, even with loctite, but oh well, $300.00 ,not bad.
