Irish Colombian here, delighted to see the channel extending their culinary experience. My day (Irish) loves Latin American food especially the buñuelos ( fried cheese bread), empanadas, arepas and the tamales… a lot of fried , meat and carbs not ideal for anyone managing their cholesterol. This are not buñuelos. The cheese sticks name in Venezuela is Tequeños (the name comes from an area near Caracas called Los Teques).

Hey Darren.....my mom was Cuban and it is not crazy to put a touch of salt on sweet plantains...I do it all the time. Gives you the sweet salty combo that is so popular.

@@ekramer2478 Very easy to make. Make sure they are overripe (black). Don't be scared by the color lol. Peel/ slice and place in hot oil in a skillet. You don't need a ton of oil. Just enough so that the banana can fry. Flip them when they get to a nice golden brown and then place on paper towels to grab excess oil. Hit them with a pinch of salt (optional) and devour!!!! great as a side dish with so many things. Enjoy!

The typical sauce for tequenos is usually what we call salsa rosada (aka ketchup+mayo) and its the kind of finger food you'd have during parties and get togethers at the pool

There is a Venezuelan food truck in my area and they serve Cachapas and Arepas which are sort of their version of burritos and tacos, only they use pancakes instead of tortillas. They also have the Tequeños as well as an amazing green (mint?) salsa. Yummo! BTW, Darren was correct in that Empanadas are Spanish/Hispanic so they're common to many Hispanic cultures including Spain, Mexico (often as a dessert,) as well as Venezuela and other South American countries.

The meats, spices, and fillers/binders may change, but everybody has their own version of Meatballs. The second is a stuffed pocket of dough or pasta filled with different things. This includes Ravioli, Pierogies, Empanadas, Soup Dumplings, Potstickers, Pork Buns, the list goes on and on. You guys could do a whole episode on different kinds of Pierogies alone because there's so many different fillings and different ways to cook them, from boiled, to pan fried, to deep fried, to baked, as well as different kinds of toppings or sauces to put on them.

We th the people of Guam u.s.a. also have two versions of empanada one made with chicken, roasted rice, hot pepper 🌶️ and masa . 2nd version is made pastry dough, pumpkin, cinnamon deep fried.

I worked with a little Columbian joy of a woman who, once a year, would turn our work kitchen into an empanada factory for us. There is nothing like a handmade beef empanada complete with handmade pico , especially when the maker is allergic to the ingredients in the pico 😬 she - and those treats - were PHENOMENAL

We have a great Venezuelan restaurant near us. We go once a month. Wonderful family owns it. The mom cooks with the main ingredient -LOVE. We take friends there. Always great. Arepas are traditional street food. Hope y’all can get those sometime.

Hey Try, are there any Jamaican or Caribbean restaurants in Ireland? I keep requesting that the Try channel do an episode on Jamaican cuisine. I suggest trying Hippocras. It's spiced wine. Tasting History did an excellent video on it. Fair warning don't only use one bottle of wine to make it by accident. I did that and it cleared my sinus cavity with one sip.
