These guys were originally told by BBC that they have the resources for lip-syncing. But Maiden refused, and said that they'll come on stage only if they were allowed to play the song live. BBC agreed and Maiden became the first band in 7 years since The Who to play live on BBC Top of the Pops.

and that is 100% true. They also did a manic performance on Tiswas (with Lenny Henry as the kids show presenter, if I remember correctly?). Manic!

My all time favorite Iron Maiden with Di'Anno as lead singer. This tune kept me sane through Jr. High in the 80's. I can still remember listening to my Sony Walkman headphones, that were hidden by my long hair, while those poor teachers rambled on about who knows what. On the outside I was just a rocker from WVC, on the inside I was in hell and I was hanging on by a thread. I really appreciate the power of this song and sound, and attribute some of my survival to the comfort I found in it.

Back in early 80's Paul released the soul of punk rock, he had this attitude in his veins, he was away from the mainstream and the lights which bruce leaded the band, i think Maiden grew because their great musicians, but Paul represented the heart and soul of the band, UP THE IRONS!!!

iron maiden's first album is a gem, from the beginning to the very end all the tracks are pure gold, my favourite for real! paul dianno made the songs greater with his voice, i don't get the point of saying the guy has no charisma

Fuck yeah, thanks for this post. What a great song, what a great band. I love Di’Anno’s raw punk style; too bad only two albums, but two hella good ones. wish I coulda seen them back in those days. I managed to catch Maiden years later and they were awesome. Dickinson did an epic rendition of phantom of the opera. Just don’t see metal like this anymore.

This was the NWOBHM which was all that rough and authentic, a mix of punk and hard rock to be played live in small clubs if not on the road. I was exactly, just sixteen running free in London, as a summer visitor remember all that...the business ruined everything, 1st mistake getting rid of Stratton, he took the Wishbone Ash guitar harmonization, then Di Anno and finally Burr, the roots were lost.
